Murder accused denied bail

A man accused of murder, who was out on bail, has been remanded into police custody after being charged for the possession and intent to supply cocaine.

Jackie Lanquedoc appeared before Magistrate Candia George this morning on four drug charges. He pleaded guilty to the possession and intent to supply 20 grams of cannabis and was sentenced to pay $1,000 or face a two-month prison sentence.

He was also charged with possession and intent to supply three grams of cocaine to which he pleaded not guilty. A trial date was set for March 12, 2012.

According to the facts which were presented by the police prosecutor, the defendant was apprehended on the roadside near the Newtown Fisheries Center by drug squad officials who had been on a routine mobile patrol exercise.

The prosecution asked the court to deny the defendant’s bail based on the premise that he was already on bail for murder. Their request was granted.

I would not want to meet someone who was out on bail for murder or suspected murder. This is someone to be feared. He should have been incarcerated from day one until the case is called. He should not be out, walking the streets and enjoying life when his victim is dead. Should he be found guilty, then it will be imprisonment for him, hopefully for life. Depriving people of their lives, the verdict should be mandatory life imprisonment without parole since there is no capital punishment.

Why on earth are suspected murderers being let out on bail?

They can now scare the victims family and witnesses to sway their plea. The psychological affects of having the man who murdered your brother/friend/lover loose on the streets for months or years is severe.

    Change this law now.

      @ Newtown Curse

What’s in a name? It means much and tells much. It appears to be a curse indeed. This name, Montego Bay should be changed to a name which is suitable to Dominica which would probably release the curse. Pray for Newtown and its people. Pray for yourself and of course DA.

This should not be so. It appears that the Law is upside down and topsy-turvy and at the most unfair.

      @ Waitukubuli

Will he be repentant? I am unable to comprehend that a human being could kill another human being. Only heartless, wicked people would do such a thing. It does not matter whether it is premeditated or not. Murder is murder and there should be no excuse for murdering someone. Rather inexcusable. He should never have been granted bail. There seems to be something wrong with the DA’s Law.

You know the Laws in Dominica is very very lineant. Who in their right mind lets a person out on bail for murder? What kind of magistrate is that? Where did she get her education from? Read your books or change the laws.

You see that is what happen when murderers are given bail. Instead he change his life and ask god for forgiveness, he is out there selling drugs. This man needs to be locked up and the keys thrown away.

The sad thing about this is that there are three other young men in prison since 2008 who are jointly charged with Jackie – yes the same Jackie for the murder of another young man. As a result of his connections in high places (ministerial) and family’s ability to post bail he has been out of prison and continuing with his gangster lifestyle and causing problems. The three others young men continue to languish in prison. Sadly so, three years after the incident the Preliminary Inquiry into the matter is still not completed in the magistrate’s court and so they are in prison serving their time before conviction. Jackie has been out enjoying himself and living a carefree life as though nothing has happened.

A few weeks ago right in the Charge Office in Roseau jackie turned up to sign his bail documents. The police suspected something foul about him. He was searched and lo and behold “the beast” the same “beast of today” was there lurking in his pockets. Ever since his release on bail almost three years ago, jackie has been on the rampage with a particular lifestyle that is totally unbecoming of a young man – a very young man indeed who found himslef in some difficulty. It is like yes, I have been exposed, in this murder matter, so what. here your real jackie.

The most damaging thing in Jackie’s development is that his family (my estranged relatives as well) beleive that somebody, the community of Newtown including the police hate Jackie and everybody else have a plan for him to harm him. They have made enemies with so many people over Jackie and his constant and frequent infringement of the law. Somehow they are of the opinion that their gifted son’s behaviour is a result of a concerted action of the community to do him bad and wishing him evil.

There are some people who will continue to protect their family no matter what. This is why he is carrying-on like this. They are supporting and encouraging him in his evil ways. No one caused him to murder another. He played God and took matters into his own hands as if he is above the Law. His time will run out and his day will soon come. Every road has an end.

when you’ve got leaders making statements like”no law or constitution can stop them!” what examples are they showing to theirs citizens? there is more to come

    • mike
      November 2, 2011

Pablo, the only response you need in this one is you are a “donkey”. Even then no law. no constitution can prevent you from expressing yourself as you see fit unless you abuse, slander or maligned somebody else. Even when you speak like a donkey as you did, “no law, no constitution, no person” can prevent you. you have a right to speak. As you would see, I firmly diasgree with your point of view, but I recognize with every fibre of my being your right to speak even though it is nonesense. “

If such is the case as you stated, never look at what others do and state, then copy them and use them as a role model in whatever manner. Everyone is responsible for him/herself and actions. Always do what is right for God will hold every one accountable for their actions, one way or the other. Make no excuses for the faults and evil actions of others. Be concerned about doing good and not evil for what a man sows, so shall he reap in time.

      @ Wait a Minute

Write your PM or political representative. Telephone as well. Lobby them to change the Law denying bail to all murderers be they suspected murderers. They should not be allowed in mainstream society and do not deserve to walk the streets since they have denied others their life and to live in freedom and peace.
