No bail for suspect in kidnapping case

Shirley Allan

As further attention was paid to a mysterious alleged kidnapping case on Tuesday, not even a passionate plea by criminal lawyer Zena Moore Dyer could persuade senior magistrate Ossie Lewis to grant bail to Shirley Allan who is before the court on a charge of “kidnapping.”

Allen was in court on Tuesday as her lawyer sought to convince the magistrate to grant bail to her client.

“It’s unfortunate that this lady should suffer the consequences of the ineptness of the police in their investigations,” Dyer told the court.

According to the attorney, the police were in search of two other persons who resided in the nearby French territory and who had been at the police station assisting them in their investigations.

“They were there……and gave the police all details but were allowed to leave the island, they have no evidence on this lady and she should be granted bail,” Dyer stated, pacing up and down the court room.

However police prosecutor, Inspector Michael Laudat told the court in response that, “while everyone has a right under the constitution, the police are still in search of the missing kidnapped persons.”

“We are still investigating and seeking information of the missing persons and we fear that if bail is granted they will interfere with our investigations,” Laudat stated.

Magistrate Lewis described the matter as a very serious one.

“They have no idea where the missing persons are…and if they are alive or dead, this is a very serious matter and on a balance I will not grant bail to her,” he stated.

According to the police, a foreign national and a local are also being pursued as suspects in the case.

Deon Hakim Alfred and Leon “Dopie” Joseph, whose whereabouts are still unknown, were allegedly kidnapped on March 10th, 2012 in Yampiece.

The Head of the Criminal Investigations Department, Superintendent Daniel Carbon, says the local suspect is from Yam piece – the other one, he says, comes from abroad although he did not specify what country that second suspect is from.

The police admit not knowing the whereabouts of the two missing young men Alfred and Joseph.

Five individuals have already been charged with “unlawfully and forcefully kidnapping” the two.

The five are: Jan Bedminster, Kimon Beaupierre, Dilon Alexander, Desmond Phillip and Shirley Allan.

A few days ago I was wondering what happened to the two men who were kidnapped and were they ever found. It is so sad what happened to them and that they have not yet been found. My words are insufficient to describe those who kidnapped them including their accomplices. Such wicked people.
Kidnapping people, depriving them of their freedom and life are atrocious crimes against humanity which should be punishable by a life sentence without parole if there is no hanging.

Boy Dominica is getting crazy, you mean grown adults with common sense and children that doing these things.

This lady is a mother, why would you hurt someone else’s child?

The parents need to know what happen to their children…..good or bad, they need some answers….this thing has already been delayed enough…..I pray that the boys are safe.

DNO where are pictures? DA police where are pictures? If suspects are out there, show us their pictures like America most wanted, who knows, somebody might spot them and tip the police off. Show some photos, offer a pay-off, you never know.

monkey the observer mean the two that the police is seeking, which i think is a police lapse to let them go,backwards policing,in a high profile case like that, you allowing two people of interest to actaully live the island before finding the victims.

I hope she run into Denny so Denny can advise her to tell the COPS everything, speak the truth and the COPS will tell her she is lying.Once that is done she will be off the hook.

Oh by the way I hope Tony Astaphan find the two people of interest so he can interview them on the coushoni show. Yah give me the thumbs down you bunch of hypocrites.

While you forming the thumbs down ask the COPS about the birth certificates and passport scammers – why the other people besides the three that was arrested are not charged. DNO will not allow me to call names but when the septic tank explode morne que hele soukou.

Bail for murder charges? Given the easy access to neighboring Islands, bail should not be granted in this case. Furthermore, the investigation can be compromised by letting these criminals out.

Dreadlocks, you need to get your facts straight before posting on DNO’s page….the young man’s father is NOT and I repeat NOT a cop…so be clear of your facts….don’t just say what you want, and by the way where is my little village, Grand Fond fitting in all of this!! well they police have to prove that these guys were kidnapped and it is apparent that they are having a hard time proving that…

    • In the Know
      April 17, 2012

Actually they are NOT having a hard time, on the contrary. The woman already told police it was her daughter and her man that took the guys. She admitted to being on the vehicle but now she’s refusing to speak further. I would pull her damn fingernails out until she start talking. Her excuse is that she was on the scene but she is not the one who harmed the young men. She’s fool hardy to believe if she doesn’t speak up then they’ll let her go and her daughter will not face jail, mistake number one.

    • Justice and Truth
      April 17, 2012

      @ stoic

It is not a matter of the police have a hard time proving that. It is known that they were kidnapped. Where are they? What did they do with them? Those who kidnapped them and those who are accomplices are all murderers.
God knows where they are and what happened to them and who are the ones responsible for these heinous acts against their fellow Dominicans. Heartless people. None deserve to be granted bail.

Correct! This is what should be done. They deprived two people of their freedom and who knows, their life. If they are not found, their captives and probable murderers and accomplices should never be granted bail. They should never see the daylight of Dominica except through the prison windows, if they do. They do not deserve freedom.

My friend Mano, that statement, ‘is an island, I hope when your time come u can face de music’!!!!!!!!!!!!! My brother, that sounds to me like a direct threat to the person, whether you know who they are or not!! If you feel that your mother is not deserving of where she is right now then say so but that language which you have used just sounds like you are sealing her fate. It brings to mind the saying, ‘like father, like son’ which can be used in this situation……Like mother, like son!!!
