“Officer I so shame I cannot say anything”- Valrico thief tells police

(DNO) “Officer I so shame I cannot say anything,” is what a Bellevue Chopin told police after getting caught stealing a large tin of Valrico mackerel costing $6.95 from Miniya’s 7-11 Minimart yesterday.

He was ordered to pay $300 by June 30, 2010 or he will face four months in jail.

Shane Edwards, who pleaded guilty to theft before Chief Magistrate Evelina Baptiste, apologized for his crime and blamed it on hunger.

Pointing to his long list of previous offenses of theft, Magistrate Baptiste responded to the defendant’s justification for his crime by stating that it was “not the fact that he was hungry, but because he is not learning”.

According to the facts of the case presented by the police prosecutor, Edwards entered into the said store and placed the Valrico in his pocket. The security guard, who observed Edwards, searched him and found the item in his possession, then alerted the police.

The tin of Valrico was ordered to be returned to the owner.

I would be one saying that its too much time or something like that if i hadnt met this young man hours before he was arrested. He was in the vicinity of Charles minimart on Independence street and was LOOKING to go to jail. He broke a bottle and almost injured a lady and her daughter who was coming from church. subsequently he told an off duty officer..Be on the look out for me ,u must come from me fro grevious bodily harm..claiming that he was looking for this guy and was going to cut him up. He also admitted to be under the influence of coke..according to him i just Bump a thing there. He even claimed to have hit himself on the head with the bottle earlier but he suprised that it didnt break nor burst his head.
trust me i rather he in jail for the mackerel than for injuring some inocent bystander.
we NEED to curb this drug problem in the land……MY 2 Cents!!!!

does this guy even have a job?300.00 for a tin of mackrell.i am not saying what he did was right but where is he gonna get that kind of money if he had to steal to eat.she saw his rap sheet, she should just send him to jail right away cause we all know he just gonna steal the money to pay the courts.

    June 7, 2010

This just made me think of how hard things are in dominica. I dont know his reasons for stealing if its just bad-minded or he has no money and needs to feed a family. But it is sad to see things like that about your country on the World WIde Web…….

Lord please help the many families that are struggling in Dominica, and those who seat and want things to come the easy way, touch them so they can seek a form of employment. I pray that my country sets free from this sinkhole its in, move forward and make a better future for the lil ones. AMEN

Here we go again with a name like asswall-e we need not waste time but tell him that quality of life crimes if not dealt with will end up being likely murder down the road. I guess asswall did not read that the defendant has a long rap sheet is there any more that can be said of criminals commiting crimes over and over again? YES! send them to jail some day they will do all of us a huge favor and do them self in.
