Oil spill causes two traffic accidents in Les Pointe

police do not crossA major oil spill on the road in the Les Pointe area caused two vehicular accidents on Thursday morning, according to the traffic police.

As a result, the traffic department is warning motorist to drive in that area with extreme caution and given the fact that the road is also wet, is making the area more dangerous.

The cause of the oil spill is unknown.

“We want motorist to drive that area with extreme caution since we already have two accidents, we don’t want more…the oil spill is now under investigations as we try to deal with the matter,” a traffic officials stated.

Hello and good morning my people. The article didn’t say what they did to rectify the situation but I read all the post and only one addressed it. It’s very simple just put some dry dirt on it, sweep the dirt and then put some more dirt. Almost every day I see accidents in Brooklyn with oil spills and Sanitation put dirt and the sweeper sweep the street. My people don’t used oil to heat their home so what kind of oil spill that could cause a serious traffic situation in sweet Dominica.

When you say oil spill are you referring to coconut oil, corn oil, peanut oil, used cooking oil, baby oil, castor oil or petroleum/gasoline. :) Just asking!!!!

Icho my comment was deliberate meant to be seriously funny and sacarstic. Your response tells me the level of ignorance. First of all the story says major oil spill and I know dominicans call gasoline fuel oil. There is a big difference if there is a fuel spill or motor oil spill and a cooking oil spill. Fuel is a hazardous substances with known carcinogens which when spilled into the environment needs immediate cleanup. Vapors are not safe to inhale and there is a fire potential in addition to environmental problems. Allowing people to drive their pose a health risk. If it is oil as in cooking oil its not a big deal.
Hope you learned something from a jackass :-D

I hope that they take note of this. I places like London where I live, when there is a spillage of diesel, the PWD with their road maintenance teams cordon off the area and the rip up that surface and completely replace it! That is because if the diesel soaks into the asphalt then that asphalt remains contaminated and most importantly, remains slippery!! Therefore, this section of road needs urgent replacement!! Let’s hope that they realise that and get it done!! Stay safe people….

There is still a 5 feet section of road in castle comfort the need to be replace after the storm. Good luck. a minister have to crash there before they replace it.

Actually that section of the road is more than five feet. Added to that is the fact that there is no concrete drain on the cliff side of the road and it is being undermined by the rain.

The ‘warning’ is a few pieces of logs placed along the precipe side of the road. At night there is no visible warning for folks who are unfamiliar with the area. e.g a caution sign before and after that section of road.

You can no longer see the pole that the slide brought down. This needs urgent attention. Is it possible for the Minister of Communication & Works to visit the site along with a technical team so that this can be dealt with before disaster strikes? I hope that this is not asking for too much.

That may help, but sand is also know to put vehicles into slides, spins and skids due to its unconsolidated nature. So motorist still need to be cautious while driving over this sand.

Dat is why we need CCTV. . The police would track the persons responsible. .. it may not be deliberate but at least we would find out how it happened
. We need high way laws. People must be held responsible for their action. DOMINICAN IF not some of them have a don’t care attitude. This oil silage on the road is a health and safety issue. Pole can take third death driving g Iver the surface.. Hope the authority taking g proper action to deal with the situation

that is one option. or they can buy a gallon pail of Breeze, send it on de road, wet it a little bit and get some prisons with Bass brooms to scrub it.
