Peterson Charles charged with murder

Peterson Charles of Yampiece has been charged for the murder of Thomas Paul, also of Yampiece.

Charles, who appeared at a Roseau Magistrate’s court this morning, allegedly inflicted a cutlass wound to Thomas’s head last weekend. The incident, according to reports, stem from a dispute over 50 cents from gambling.

Charles was formally charged with attempted murder and grievous bodily harm following the incident. Thomas was hospitalised in the Intensive Care Unit at the Princess Margaret Hospital but died several days later on December 17.

Charles has been remanded and is scheduled to reappear in court on June 14 for the preliminary inquiry into the matter.

Disclosure was ordered to be made to Dyer and Dyer Chambers on or before February 28, 2011.

Whether or not the deceased was a menace that does not mean his life had to be taken. How would you feel if you had your son, daughter, aunty, uncle, cousin, brother, sister killed? Regardless of the deceased’s character that is a life taken. You didn’t give life you shouldn’t take it plain and simple. Self Defense my ass…Hope an example is made of him cause if it were my family you do the crime you pay the damn time. Fed up of the lawlessness in this country.

u are just being ridiculus right now am not saying his right for killing the man And u are right if it was my son brother e.t.c i would be hurt too but come on the young boy was only defending himself what if it was him that was dead. Lemme guess u would be taking for him now rite. And i bet if it was ur brother siting in the prison for defending himsel u would be writting a different story……Dats just we Dominican sumting is not rite till it happens to us but if its someone else their wrong…….

Now that he is gone, you and your family will have peace. This is a clear indication that there is something seriously wrong with you. Someone’s life was taken away from him. Like I said before, he was a son, a brother, a father, someone’s best friend. Too bad that Dominica does not have the death penalty. This Peterson person has no remorse. That means that he will do the exact thing when he is released from prison. The justice system needs some serious revamping. Try this in Texas…A country where the justice system is tough…Just remember that everyone is reading your comments. Dominica needs tourism. Dominica needs money. Stop scaring people away who wants to visit Dominica.

first of all u need to get ur facts straight how in the world do u know that peterson has no remorse. you need to know the full story before u come and run ur mouth. Im not saying that it is right that the man is dead but the way this happened it could have happened to any1 of us. Do u know that the cutlass used was the victims own and he was the one that used it 1st and that the young man actually asked for help and noone came to his aid. i find that we as dominicans sometimes are too quick to make comments on things that we know nothing about

The way I have interpreted this whole is that it was done in an act of self-defense. the victim was a menace and caused a lot of discomfort prior to the incident. Again, let me allude you to the fact that the man was killed with his own cutlass, what does that tell you?? it was an incident gone bad.

There is absolutely no reason to injure a man with a cutlass or any weapon to the point of murdering him. If an injustice is committed against us it is no reason that we should play God and the Court of Law and harm and murder the person.
I live in a society where a policeman’s gun was taken away from him while trying to arrest a criminal and the criminal used it to murder the policeman. The policeman did not have the gun in his hand but on him.
God will not make any excuses for him nor will He exonerate him. Therefore, cease your manner of thinking and ask God for his enlightenment.
You should know that Our Lord said: “Turn the other cheek.” Therefore if you are a practicing Christian and read Holy Scripture and is instructed in Holy Scripture you should know that.
This is why every country has a Court of Law where criminals and murderers will be tried and hopefully justice will be meted out and the murderer will receive the judgment which he deserves.
It is better to walk away from an argument and trouble so as not to be involved in committing a crime/murder. Whatever the reason, whatever the personality of the man who was murdered, two wrongs do not make a right.
I am informing you, this is how Our Lord Jesus Christ will see it for He has taught us: “Love one another as we love ourselves; Thou shalt not kill and Strive for peace…”
After this man is convicted and sentenced, if he does not change, the time will come when he will face God for his judgment to be judged for murdering a man and also ignoring God and His teachings, not worshipping Him and not living a godly lifestyle. No one escapes God’s fair and just judgment.
I do hope that he can be rehabilitated.

Sorry to hear of the mans death but, all Dominicans are doing is blaming the young boy i know his wrong for killing the man but the way i heard the story is the one thats dead that came after him first with the cutlass to cut him, i even heard he get a cut on his hand and when the young boy get a hold of the cutlass he cut him back with his own cutlass. He just hit back harder. The way i heard it it was self defense.Dont think am taking sides here am not am just giving my views on this story. My regards goes out to the both familiy, the ones of the deceased and the ones of the young boy in prison. Thats our problem in Dominica now all we are doing is blaming the youths for every mistake they make whether it is one thats minor or major instead of helpin them. All the older women n men sit and say is “boy children now adays boy in my days it wasnt like dat eh i dont know wat happen to them children of today” come on ppl be real we need to stop dwelling on the past and start thinking about where we are now and the future ahead of us,cant you all see that we are in a world of today where peer pressure is so easy to fall for.We are in a state where cordfish used to be bout 50 cents now it’s 10 dollars n more, where in a world where there is so much more technology and so much more opportunities but yet there are some of us that are still left back while there are some of us who easily grasp these opportunities due to the fact that some of us are more financially stable and raised in better homes with a whole lot more opportunities layed out there for them and some of us whose parents knows all the big shot men and women who call the shots so they can squeeze in their children whether they meet the recommendations or not while the rest of us just P.U.S.H. The older People, mainly adults need to recognise that it’s a dog eat dog world out there and we need to start helping the youths instead of pressuring them.

The fact that the victm’s own cutlass was used on him, should already be an indication of something that went wrong. The odds turned on him and caused his demise. It is my understanding that leprechaun was noted for threatening people with that very cutlass, the slightest incident he runs home to get that cutlass. Not too long ago he was in a fencing battle with someone with that same cultass and his finger or fingers were cut. You must ask the neighbours in the area where he lived about him and that cutlass. Sometimes all odd hours of the morning he going home to get that cutlass.

    December 21, 2010

THOMAS SISTER I KNOW IT IS A SAD SITUATION FOR YOU RIGHT NOW, BUT I WISH I COULD MEET YOU FACE-TO-FACE TO TELL YOU HOW YOUR SO CALLED INNOCENT BROTHER TERRORIZED MY LIFE…. MY MOTHER’S LIFE….. MY BROTHERS AND FRIENDS LIFE.

IT IS NOT RIGHT THAT SOMEONE SHOULD KILL SOMEONE BUT IT WAS HIS OWN CUTLASS THAT CAUSED HIS DEATH. HE PREACHED EVERYDAY THAT HE WILL KILL SOMEONE!

EVERYDAY YOUR BROTHER PLAYED MUSIC FROM 6AM TO MIDNIGHT AND SOMETIMES BEYOND THAT TIME SO I COULD NOT SLEEP.

YOUR BROTHER ONCE SAID TO ME THAT A BIKE HAVE DRAG ME UNTIL I BREAK MY NECK. HE WISHED ALL THE NASTY AND BAD THINGS ON ME AND MY FAMILY.

WE DID NOT HAVE PEACE WITH HIM FROM THREE YEARS AGO UNTIL HIS DEATH. WE DID NOTHING TO HIM.

HE DID HIS NUMBER 2’SSSS IN PLASTIC AND THREW IT ON OUR LAND. HE CUT OUR TREES THAT’S ON OUR LAND AND HE COVERED OUR WALK WAY WITH THE BRANCHES.

A DAY WOULD NOT PASS BY THAT I WOULD CALL MY MUM AND LEPRECHAUN YOUR INNOCENT BROTHER WAS NOT DOING HER SOMETHING MISCHEIVOUS.

HE PULLED THE VERY SAME CUTLASS ON BOTH OF MY BROTHERS FOR HIS OWN WRONG-DOING.

THOUGH I SYMPATHIZE WITH YOU EVERYONE IN THE COMMUNITY ALWAYS COMPLAINED ABOUT HIM……. BUT IT IS YOUR BLOOD SO YOU COULD PORTRAY HIM AS AN INNOCENT, BUT TO ME AND MY FAMILY HE WAS LIKE A REAL LEPRECHAUN.

SORRY FOR YOUR LOSS BUT ALL I CAN SAY RIGHT NOW MY FAMILY IS DELIVERED FROM THE VENOM OF THIS MAN!!!!! I AM IN NO WAY REJOICING AT HIS DEATH BUT HE LOOKED FOR IT… HE WAS A MENACE…….

Can’t even begin to understand when Dominica turned into what it is today. I grew up in Dominica, a place which was considered to be safe, a nice place to live. What on earth is happening to the young folks in Dominica. Someone’s life… my brother’s life was violently taken away from him. I would like the opportunity to ask that Paterson guy, face to face, “What were you thinking?”. This guy doesn’t deserve to live amongst people. He deserves the death penalty. Goodness people..stop the innocent killing..stop the violence.

Dominica indeed have changed over the years. The schools are falling apart with a higher drop out rate, and there is little work or activities to keep our youths occupied. So what do they turn to, violence and drugs. We really need a stronger support from our Government to help change things around.

        December 21, 2010

Yes truly and well said- We must not give up on the young people since our Father will nto give up on any one of us. Unless we can understand that we are not ready to make a difference in our childrens and peers lives. We see a lot of people saying curses at this young people and sometimes (most times) we are the ones who have created the monsters in our society. We do so with our tongues – calling all kind of evil on the young persons lives. We must desist from using our tongues wildly and giving the enemy the chance to work in the lives of our young people. We must use our tongues to give thanks and praise to our Father and also to cover our young persons with the blood of Jesus and ask our Father to send his Holy Spirit to convict them and so we can allturn form our wicked ways. We must also be a shinning example to them. Not sayig one thing and doing another. We must be Holy so we can attract those out there for the Glory of the Father.

Sad indeed for both the victim and the one who committed the act Families. You are allin my prayers. Rosie and family hold strong. Steve and Family hold stong.

Let us continue to pray for our young persons.

I sympathize with you on the loss of your brother. But there is two sides to every story and from all accounts given by the residents where your brother lived, they were all at one point or another terrorized by him and that very same cotlar”cutlass”, there is no justification for the taking of one’s life, but your brother was not as innocent as you are portraying him. The fact that he was slashed multiple times with his very own cutlass is an indication that his attempt to slashed the guy went bad and it turned on him resulting in his demise. Please ask around the neighbour about the type of character he was and you will be astound to hear what he was like. It is really sad that you did not offer him help while he was alive by removing him out of his poverty and out of Dominica. Which may have been a much better solution since he would have gotten rehabilitation etc. I do hope that you and all the family who live abroad will take the daughter he has left behind with you guys and out of the life where she is already doomed. She too will become a victim of rape, prositiution, drugs addition like her late father, teen pregancy etc. Charity starts at home and now is the perfect time to correct a wrong that may be done, that way you would not have to visit Dominica under the circumstances that you are visiting now.

Sympathies to you and the entire family.

There is nothing wrong with Dominica. It is people.
We do tend to say, “What is wrong with a country and/or the world.” We should say: “What is wrong with ‘some’ people?”
God created beautiful countries and gave us all the amenities in order to live a happy comfortable life. He gave us the moon, sun, water, rivers, streams, lakes, trees, fruits, vegetables and edible animals, all to make us happy and healthy. He created mortals and gave each of them a certain degree of intelligence. Some people have chosen to go their own way and do their own thing and reject God as some state “it is my life” as if they gave themselves life.
Our Almighty Father gave the Ten Commandments to Moses. Read the story in the Old Testament and note how ungrateful the people were when Moses went into the desert to communicate with God and was given the Ten Commandments they became impatient and built false gods and were carousing and carrying-on.
I was born in Dominica and grew up in Dominica to early adulthood. We were happy people. We could even leave our doors and windows open even when we were sleeping. Many will recall this. It is not so today. There were crimes and also murder, the latter once every 10 years. Today, they are committed frequently.
In the past, people were (more) loving, caring and helpful. Times have changed but in effect, it is people who have changed. Since people have changed, there is a price to pay for that. Others as law-abiding people are affected.
I recall that Dominica was predominantly a Catholic Christian country. The people were more pious and obedient to The Church as they practice their faith. Today, many other religions have infiltrated Dominica and some Catholics were indoctrinated to join them and have become enemies of the Catholic Church. Much more could be stated about that.
Instead of those people learning about their Catholic faith, growing in godly spirituality, cultivating their faith and enhance their knowledge of the faith, they chose to renounce their Catholic faith. As God sees and has taken note of it, once again, there is a price to pay for that.
You must comprehend as people also become more godless, they will become unkind and wicked as in the case of criminals and murderers. We must attribute their attitude to godlessness especially the youth, some of whom have no guidance or that they refuse to obey authority as their parent(s).
In the past it was unheard of for younger children or teenagers to murder others. Today, it appears to be the norm. Some of them murder their own parents and siblings. This is shocking. Most of all it saddens Our Lord.
Our Lord Jesus Christ said: “Apart from Me you can do nothing.”
You only need to read and study Holy Scripture as we practice the faith and God will reveal more of this to you, the why’s and wherefores of evil that is occurring in Dominica. I am not living the other parts of the world out of it.
In the Holy Bible: 2 Timothy 3:1:8 – The Dangers of the Last Days – But understand this: there will be terrifying times in the last days. People will be self-centered and lovers of money, proud, haughty, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, irreligious, callous, implacable, slanderous, licentious, brutal, hating what is good, traitors, reckless, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, as they make a pretense of religion but deny its power. Reject them! …
There, you have it. These are the reasons for what is occurring in Dominica and also in other parts of the world. However, Dominica is a small country and I do believe that what is occurring should not be occurring and should not have occurred but for the minds and hearts of those who commit crimes and murders. The smoke of Satan has entered and in their hearts and minds.
These people are in dire need of the blessing and grace of God. Due to their lifestyle, they deny themselves God’s blessing, graces, gifts and virtues. They need to practice their Christian faith, to pray to God, ask God for forgiveness, make penance and sacrifice as atonement/restitution which will appease Him. If they do this, with the help of God only then could they become loving people and live in peace and unity and accord others same.
They are trampling upon their redemption and are also denying themselves, their souls, eternal salvation. This is a serious matter.
If we do not practice the faith as we should, obeying God’s Ten Commandments and the religious teachings of The Church, praying for The Church, for the laity, for others and for ourselves, then we should not expect those people to become better people. All else will fail and the situation will continue to grow worst and escalate as the years progress.
That is the be all and end all of it. These matters are to be taken seriously.
