PM joins Independence celebrations in St. Thomas

Skerrit

Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit formed part of Independence activities in St Thomas.

The Dominica Association of St Thomas hosted its Independence Dinner and Creole show on Saturday where Skerrit delivered the feature address.

Liaison Officer for Diaspora Affairs in St. Thomas Laureen Bannis-Roberts said well over 300 Dominicans living in St Thomas attended the event.

“In attendance were the delegates to congress, Colin Piper of the Discover Dominica Authority, Kelver Darroux and many others. But the main highlight was the Prime Minister who delivered the feature address. He encouraged Dominicans to remain patriotic to their homeland as well as remaining law abiding citizens in the USVI. He was pleaded with the attendance and persons who attended were delighted. His address was well received,” she said.

She said a dance was performed by Prime Minister with the members of the Quadrille group of St Thomas.

“Dominicans left the event satisfied and reenergized and pledged their commitment to remain committed to Dominica,” she said.

Bannis-Roberts said Prime Minister Skerrit also gave his government’s commitment to pen a consular office to serve Dominicans residing in St Thomas and Tortola.

If this man was pictured in his bed sleeping people would find something negative to say about how he sleeps. Politics seem to be imbedded in some people so bad, it is like part of their DNA. The man showing up and representing Dominica overseas for independence celebrations, nothing wrong with that at all. not even through the independence period people can put politics aside.

What is Laureen Bannis Robert job in the Virgin Isalnds? Since the DLP gave her this job due to migration (green card) this lady has yet to keep a meeting with any of the islands ( St. Croix , St.Thomas, St.John & BVI ) they say she represent. Some time ago a pass governor died and she did not represent the country DA on paying last respect is the guy from Wassin Dominique who paid respect on behalf of the country. Where is her office situated when she has a private job working for some other entity instead of Dominica’s ambassador in the Virgin Islands shame we are put there looking for answers.

You people are so negative. It’s not only Laureen that have to promote Dominica; all of us have to help promote DA. The function is growing every year and as an attendy I must say it was fantastic. I commend the Dominica Association of St. Thomas and if we all stick together as one people i am sure things will change for all of us Dominicans. We need to stop putting each other down instead of picking up and motivating each other. Damn people your negativity makes me sick!

It is true that more than one person must promote dominica, however, at government functions there should be a government official representing the country. If that is her role in the VI, then she should attend such functions unless there is another emergency to attend too. However, her local job should not interfere with the affairs of Dominica.

That is what I am saying! It is time for us, Dominicans, to let go of negativity and hopelessness

If the majority of us in Dominica are God fearing people, we need to remember that God is perfect and He gives His people hope.

Stop the mouthing down of the developments of our Dominica and the welfare of our people.

We get what we call for, because words are the influence and power of whatever comes into their distinctive forms.

Trust God to do His Will in our lives! Aaa tonnehe!

Mrs bannis Roberts if you are satisfied with a crowd of 300 dominicans what else can we expect from you, you are charged with diaspora affairs and knowing the number of dominicans in St Thomas its 200% plus more than the 300 you were able to motivate, come on grand bay alone have twicw that amount, from the results you seem to be a failure to the ministry of diaspora affairs, hope you are doing this gratis for Dominica, not many persons know of your function in St Thomas, get real and go out there and meet our beloved dominicans, Lawa will do a better job.

    • October 24, 2011

“Not many persons–(know) the correct word is (knew)–of your function in St.Thomas.”

      @CIAonthewatch

Well that is the reason the turn-out was not what it should have been.

But with 300 Dominicans showing up at a function, pertaining to Dominica, at St. Thomas, that seem like a good number. The question is What is the holding capacity of that place in St. Thomas, where the function was held? How many more people could fit in.

And at least each of those persons know two, three, or four other Dominican in St. Thomas who might want to participate next year, as the news spread around.

Let us learn to speak positive and hopeful. Negative means “nothing” and nothing is “no production whatsoever” Let us maintain the attitude that will manifest production–for our Dominica and her people.

I was at the event and the event hall is very spacious. There were no more seats at the tables and it became standing room only. This however was greatly due to the efforts of the Dominica Association of St.Thomas. They are very hard working individuals and they really pushed the sale of the tickets. However, I have no idea who Mrs. Laureen Bannis-Roberts is or the actual duties of her position. I would like to learn some more about Mrs. Bannis- Roberts and her efforts.
