The Dominica Police Force has issued a stern warning to shoppers and business owners during the Christmas season, advising them to secure their money properly.

He said persons should be on the “look out for opportunistic criminals who have propensity to prey on suspecting shoppers to commit crime such a theft, malicious damage fit their criminal appetite and intent.”

Weekes said in an effort to a ensure crime and incident free season or to minimize the impact of criminal activity and lawlessness, the police will be seen discharging their crime prevention strategies.

According to Weekes, this includes prevention or crime, detection of crime and apprehension and prosecution of criminals.

“We have beefed up of mobile patrol, both in uniform and plane cloths, not only in the city but in the entire island. We will protect the public without fear of favour,” he stated.

The police have asked citizens to protect their home and valuables including their vehicle.

“Report suspicious persons or things in your area and persons should break the culture of silence by reporting those committing crimes. We have to look out for pick pockets who most times work in syndicates. Watch out for counterfeit money. Secure and hold on to your money bags and children. We see time and time again that children are left to wonder around,” he added.
