Police arrest two in Western Union robbery

Police have reported a breakthrough in the investigations of a robbery which occurred at the Western Union branch in Roseau on Thursday morning.

Police Public Relations Officer Sergeant Kenth Matthew told Dominica News Online that two men has been taken into custody on the same day and a substantial amount of the money was recovered.

He said one security guard was slightly wounded in the incident and a pregnant woman employee of the establishment was traumatized. They were taken to hospital and subsequently released.

The incident occurred at around 7:30 on Thursday morning when two masked men, one armed with a gun, forced their way into the building on Hanover Street.

Two female employees and a male employee, who walked in during the robbery, were roughed up by the robbers before they made their escape with the loot.

The police did not report how much money was taken or recovered.

boy boy Mr Kelvin you never change. I am sorry for you, but you need to learn a lesson. You came from a good educated family, and the best thing you find to do is to play Ninja in Roseau.
I am happy they caught you and this other guy i cannot recognize he is not from Grandbay he look like Haitian, his last name is nah. I hope they lock you up for good at least you will be better of in Jail. I will remember you in prayer.
The first thing they mention is they are Grandbarians. These guys left Dominica small and came back with all their bad habits, and this is what they are producing.

Ha-ha ha …..I have to laugh at my Dominican people……one person said beat them and he’s getting thumbs up…….then again it’s what they are used too….. well as long as the guy who beat up his sister can be fined….I think these guys should also given an option of paying a fine as well….or else our legal system is sending a message loud and clear……. Seems like I should put some money aside to pay the court and also to pay a hit man to beat up a couple people for me……………

Well at least I hope they’ll have a defense lawyer paid for by the state…..I used to wonder what is the purpose of having a defense lawyer if the perpetrator/s have been caught right handed robbing an establishment ……..it’s not like they can argue It was angry at the moment as in the case of a crime of passion…..now I know that they are given an attorney to ensure that they are treated fairly….not to prove their guilt or innocence but to be protected from being treated unfairly……

These wicked Dominicans on here would have them hanged…… who needs the psychiatrist again? ………………hmm you people have twisted minds……what can I say……Jesus loves you to

Good job but I still want to see police check points now and again; random searches of vehicles and their occupants at strategic locations and at anytime – lets keep those intended at committing crime on our radar at all times. It happens in St Lucia, Grenada and Trinidad where I recently visited. Task FORCE get to work – just like we do for licenses and insurance do it for drugs and fire arms I doh mine the inconvenience as a driver its for my own propection. Move it move it move it!!

WAY TO GO OFFICERS!!!!!. Job well done so far. Now please ask the court to have these guys remamded and do a thorough investigation like figer print, DNA, voice recognition, height/ weight comparism of the masked men to those in custoday, and dont forget to have ALL those accomplices arrested also.

Question everyone who works at the place and even their significant other and even close relative to see what conversation they had with such people recently. It may have been as simple as their friends asking: Do you feel safe at work? Do they have cameras to protect you? How come allu only have $1000.00 in there at any given time? Why the guards at the place dont have guns? Any such question ask to an employee may seem insignificant by the unsuspecting employee but very critical to the criminal.

A heist of such precision and magnitude MUST have others involved besides the two who did the actual act. And by the way dont forget to find and seize the get-way vehicle involved.

The other issue will be the fire arm used so PLEASE, SOUPLAY, DONT GIVE IT BACK to the owner even if it was stolen or borrowed or even if the license is expired. Now you all cant say Dr.Shameless did not assist with this critical investigation.

And by the way, as soon as allu have this one wrapped up, go back by Mr. Emmanuel and start all over again. Dont forget to file the extradition orders for the prime suspect Senior Sico/ Seco and all other accomplices who have fled the state. Once he is in custody I will give more investigative tips on this one.

    • Realist
      February 4, 2012

      @zzzzz
While I would like to agree with you that in general people tend to get off conviction at a rate proportional to the severity of the case, there is a twist to this rule. It matters against who the crime was committed against. When ever a crime is perpertrated against one of the traditional elite, the police work faster, are dramatically more efficient and the prosecuters as well as the jurors go out to make an example. When its against a poor black citizen then everyone turns the other way.
just from the sympathies and outrage express on this western union case one can see it is much more than other cases even murders. So these are the factors than influences the outcome.

  57. February 3, 2012

yes sah…. when will this stop… how could they force their way in?? so a financial institution like W.U don’t have strict code that doors should be locked until opening for service time… meaning the security should be at the door to open up for staff n lock the door back…. it doesn’t seem that was the case… it seem the door was unlocked n they just brushed in on the officer… since seeing them approaching he would try to hold the door closed….

The police have been doing their job but some of you would not give them a chance as they are demeaned by calling them all sorts of derogatory names. May this cease.
In general, the police cannot catch every criminal and solve every case. The police also needs the help of nationals. It is a two-way street.
In addition, those nationals who offer the police relevant information, they must take it seriously and also not divulge the names of those who do. If their identity is not protected, nationals will fear retribution from criminals and will not confide in them.

    • Concerned
      February 4, 2012

To equip not only security officers but the rest of the civilians who are at risk everyday ,the government needs to look into changing the laws on this and allow us to protect ourselves ,to get simple articles to protect oneself you must obtain a permit and Im not speaking of firearms which the criminals have at their disposal , the fact is Dominica has changed and the laws need to do so as well to protect officers and civilians alike!!
