Police arrest two in Pizza Hut break in

Law enforcement at the scene of the crime
Law enforcement at the scene of the crime

Two men are in police custody as investigations continue into a break in at Pizza Hut in Roseau.

The men have not been charged and are being questioned by law enforcement.

The establishment was broken into in the early hours of June 2, 2014.

A number of cell phones, two laptop computers, a quantity of snacks and drinks and a safe containing a substantial amount of cash were stolen, according to the police.

Later that morning the safe was recovered on Hanover Street.

The police say the perpetrators tampered with the safe, however, were only able to access a minimal sum of money.

Hello and good afternoon my people. Hello you don’t understand how the Criminal Justice System works. If the defendant take a plea before trial or during trial then he wasn’t convicted. They can do that and get a lesser sentence or plead guilty to a lesser crime therefore the crime is solved without a conviction.

Hats off to the Police for quick work. I just hope they follow the procedures and if the guys are guilty ensure that they stay behind bars for a long time.

When I read some of the comments, I am amazed at the country that we have become. Even trying to solve a break in must be relegated to “because is Pizza Hut”? What exactly are we saying for goodness sake?

The devil never sleeps. Just as criminals he influences and helps them to commit crimes.
Why do they not seek employment? Some of them may be employed. Yet will commit crimes.
The VII – Seventh Commandment of God – Thou Shalt Not Steal.
The X – Tenth Commandment of God – Thou Shall Not Covet Thy Neighbor’s Goods.
Are those who commit such crimes not afraid of going to Hell – forever?
It is too bad they were not caught while committing the crime. Did Pizza Hut not have an alarm system? Was it an inside job? Police, I hope you investigate this thoroughly and ensure that you catch the real perpetrators so that, in a few years it will not be said that they have to be released due to insufficient evidence. Investigate all possible avenues, their relatives, friends and their cellular phones and other.
This break-in and theft was obviously premeditated. How many were involved in this break-in? Where were they prior to the theft, where they went after the break-in, what happened to the stolen items and what they did with them, the latter if not found. This should keep the police very occupied, to get to the root of this break-in and arrests.
A lie detector test would help catch them.

how come the police can find those thieves for pizza hut so quick and when i reported a burglary at my house, give them, names, addresses, all infor they did not make an arrest. i should be the owner of pizza hut.

    • July 3, 2014

      Jennifer.

Hello and good evening my people. They didn’t say they arrest two perpetrators rather they are questioning two people. In regards to the Burglary at your residence and the name and address you gave the Police. Have it ever crossed your mind that this person didn’t burglarized your residence. Alway remember that the Police need Probable Cause to make an arrest. Do you think the Police want a Burglar out there to continue to victimize our citizens.

Tony, a complaint was lodged with the police who should have pursued it in the same manner, to question the suspects and also inform Jennifer of their conclusion. It appears that they were not interested in pursuing the case and ignored her complaints.
If such is the case, it appears that D/ca is in dire need of police officers who will take their obligations seriously including when private citizens lodge complaints also for burglary and theft. It goes without saying that their complaints are as important as that of a business.
When it is a business they are quick to respond enthusiastically. It goes to show.

I suppose if it were a business they would not hesitate to follow-up your complaint and then contact you of their findings.

Some of us think because we suspect somebody then it must be that person and it cannot be another person so the police must arrest and take our suspect before the Court with no EVIDENCE but based on our suspicion. In the event the person you suspected is really the culprit they still need evidence , I repeat, evidence to PROVE he was the one and it could not have been anyone else. ok.

        July 4, 2014

So why wasn’t the person questioned like they are doing now in the case of pizza hut?

      • Dominica Justice
        July 5, 2014

        Well said Tony.

Let me inform Face the Facts that Burglary and theft are serious offences that Investigations have to be done professionally and effectively and according to the Law of the Commonwealth of Dominica by the Police to bring the perpartrators to Justice. What u say is a 100% correct. But without evidence how are you going to prove the Burglary or the theft.

There is an increasing trend among Investigators to charge based on minimal or insufficient evidence and the individual is convicted simple because he cant defend himself or the Judge is politically motivated for example a recent Judge here who has now been replaced was a so called government man doing things to suit him and not the taxpayers who were paying him.

Even internally Investigators have no evidence and charge their own and convict there own.

In the spectrum of Police Science there must be evidence to prove the offence.

As it relates to the Investigations of reports. It depends on the Police Officer. If u have a excellent Investigator the complainant will get results for example, arrests, follow ups, witness statements,charges,etc..
However if the Investigator is not interested in the case then you will see a different outcome.

U have to understand that Pizza Hut is an international Brand.Solving a case like that will give the Police Force exposure and credibility so naturally the Investigator will be more inclined to investigate.U must remember that Dominica is small and when one gets a case such as this they must perform to give the Police department and Dominica excellent press.

Remember there is a “OIC” who wants results and he has to answer to someone and the cycle contiues.

Regardless of this burglaries or theft whether commercially or residencial have to be investigated. This is the only way to maintain the crime rate.

      • July 6, 2014

        Face the Facts.

Hello and good afternoon my people. A burglary was reported to the Police and the complainant (Jennifer) provided a name and address of a possible perpetrator. Don’t you think that the Police investigated the alleged perpetrator and if their investigation is completed then they are satisfied that the person didn’t commit the burglary of Jennifer residence. She didn’t say she or someone else witness that person burglarizing her residence or how she know that person commit the crime. I do agree with you that if the Police Investigation is completed then they should inform Jennifer of the conclusion.

What type of comment is that? Are you one of those who were involved in the break-in? Are you sending a message to the authorities? Are you a radical?
Then everyone in the country or any country for that matter, who is unemployed should do likewise. Not a smart idea. Some unruly country you would have.
You better not consider what you have stated for you know the repercussion of your action.
Thank God some disciplined and considerate people who are unemployed will not resort to break-ins and theft. They believe in seeking employment, working and being patient if they are unemployed. There are still some good people in D/ca and in the rest of the world.
There are some who preferred living a leisure life. They did not take their schooling seriously or did not take a job seriously. As they grow older, it became more difficult for them to obtain employment..
Look to yourself and those who claim there are no jobs. What type of job are you educated to perform?
We cannot feel sorry for you. Do not blame the government. The government is not responsible for you. You are responsible for yourself. This is something you should learn. As a national, if you took your obligations seriously, you would not have made such comments. You go and find a job to do and inform your contemporaries about this that they may do likewise.

Hear Instru.” When I present your case they will have to pay you top $ is 1/2 a million I going for.” Then he hangs up turning to the guy he said” Dem guys playing with the wrong lawyer. How can I help you sir?”
The guy said” I am from LIME I came to pick up your phones sir.”

It was stated that that the man is a Trinidadian who recently returned home. No doubt posing as a big shot and that he has a career. It was really funny. I had a good laugh.

    • July 4, 2014

      Garvin Charles.

Hello and good morning my people. They are using the same method any Police Department would to look for fingerprints at a crime scene. If they find a fingerprint then it will be photograph and then lifted. Once it’s lifted then it will be placed on an index card where it will be examined by a fingerprint technician. Many large Police Department have electronic databases where they scan and compare the print to their database but a technician must still confirm the hit from the database. Yes we must get serious about crime and that’s why the Officers are dusting for prints. Only fifteen years ago NYPD moved to an electronic database but any hit must be confirm by a fingerprint technician and they are still using a Ten Card Index System.
