Police Chief talks tough on drugs

Police Chief, Daniel Carbon, is alerting those involved in the drug trade that they are not safe from the long arms of the law.

He said the police force in Dominica will pursue drug dealers wherever they are.

“We will pursue them on the high seas, we will purse them on the seashore, we will pursue them in their houses and in their vehicles,” Carbon stated.

He described the illegal drug trade as “a great evil” which encompasses almost every single crime committed in society. “It breeds homicides, illegal gun trafficking, human smuggling, human trafficking,  burglaries, theft, robberies,” he noted. “The drug trade is usually responsible for perpetuating those crimes.”

He had praises for the members of the force, especially the Drug Squad, who he said are active in combating the trade.

“Some of our out district police stations have been putting 110 percent in fighting this illegal drug trade,” Carbon said.

In recent weeks the police on the island have carried out operations which resulted in two major drug busts.

On July 12, 1,400 pounds of marijuana were seized in Stowe and on July 14, 30 kilos of cocaine were seized in Dos Dane.

Great Job Chief Carbon! Drugs kill and destroy our youth. Please don’t worry about the negative talkers. Do your job! One less drug trafficker on the street is one more life saved. People of Dominica, please support law enforcement. Don’t worry about the those corrupted cops. They will see their day. Support the ones that are trying to do good or else you will be very, very sorry.

The police will always help with the drug dealers because the amount of money they may get paid for this job is much more than their salaries, so you will always get them to do these things because the economy here is very high and their salaries cannot meet up to the expectations, so the best things they are doing in secrets is to help the drug dealers and get a good sum of money which will be able to help the expenses much better than their salary. Can’t blame them . The song sang . The price is too high to high, we cannot afford to buy,no foood ,no clothes and no money.

yeah well I’m not for drugs but as it is now the drug trade brings in more foreign exchange than the government and private sector business. when them boys go gwada is euros they making and they come back to d/ca and spend it if the can. they buy food, drinks and gas for their cars (all that is vat they paying). d/ca is a transit/transhipment point the drugs that come in are not consumed on island.

You also need to go at the crooked cops who are allegedly involved.I have no problem with you pursuing those who are trafficking drugs. That’s a sign of good leadership. Wish the other areas of your work were like that.

I am no supporter of the police on many matters.I think just about 1% or2% of the entire force are genuine. I think that it is a failed institution on island, simply because too many of these men/women are puppets and slaves of the the government, and as such, they are totally blinkered and blind to do the state’s duty in an unbiased manner.
However as I have stated on this medium several times before, that I am totally and unalterably against drug trafficking by anyone, and the police, and the authorities NEED TO GET TOUGHER ON THOSE CRIMINALS KILLING,TRUNCATING AND DESTROYING OUR HUMAN RESOURCE. They need to be persued under their beds, in the streets, the dark alleys,on the hills, mountains and everywhere with all the resources available to the drug squad.
I have seen and I am still seeing the havoc that drugs have wrecked and is still wrecking with the lives of people and I hate it.It’s in our schools, our sidewalks, offices and everywhere.
AS A LEVEL HEADED DOMINICAN I APPLAUD THIS CALL FROM YOU MR CARBON.

Due respect to you mr carbon, and i hope you will read this message. I am from the north and often visit your village vieille case, but if you are destroying drugs and want the dealers out of site, why is vieille case a breeding ground for drugs on the island. So many young people ask you for a joint or for weed when you walk dis village. Mr carbon charity begin at home the PM from vieille case the chief from vieille case, yet still drugs in vieille case like cabbage, Dno must take a drive up there to see what i am talking about.

  23. July 25, 2013

Did he say I will pursue them in the police stations, and in the police vans? The truth is while some are giving 110 some are actually dealing a 110%. So please Mr. Carbon target the ones in the same unit who alert the the dealers when the unit is on it’s way. And deal with the ones who have all the “whatever” on a police income, seriously the place is not so big If I know who they are, I think you know too.

wow seriously, that’s news. You will be going after the drug DEALERS, ok then, lets see.
We all know the dealers, they are racking up multi million dollar assets and for years the force is putting very little pressure on them so I believe this is just hot air.

Mr. Commissioner, all well meaning Dominicans are in your corner. We salute you and wish you well. Unfortunately, your men need to come up to speed and earn the trust and confidence of the public again. A government owned firearm going missing from the Police Charge office.? Which civilian would be so darn stupid to even attempt to steal a firearm from the police Charge Office? It is inevitable that all fingers will point to police officers themselves. What about the fire at the coast guard base destroying a vital piece of evidence in a drug matter. What about “Jackall’s” and massive recent investments? Could that have happened on his legitimate income? Sir, we wish you all the best, but the job is tough. Who can you trust/

I have yet to see you Police people actually lock some people up for this cr@p. Intercepting them is one thing, making them pay is another story. Your officers only harass the little guy on the street because he’s trying to feed his family. I have been saying time and time again, the real thugs are not the little guy in the ghetto, the thugs are the ones bringing that cr@p into our communities, from outside. The little guy does not have resources to traffic drugs and guns from the airports and seaports. Stop all the smoke and mirrors!

Good motivating statements by the police chief.
Maybe inspired by Winston Churchill’s famous speech.

    Go get them.

I don’t know but whatever it is the police are doing, is definitely working. The amount of drugs that have been stopped and seized is overwhelming. Now we just need to work on the court system to bring the culprits to justice.
