Acting Superintendent Ainsworth Irish has reported that Dominica’s 35th Independence celebrations were peaceful and incident free.

Speaking to Dominica News Online on Wednesday morning Irish said, “I am happy to report that Independence celebrations went very well … it was incident free from the police stand point from the end of September right down to last evening when they had the jump up.”

Irish added that the activities were very well policed and that Chief of Police Daniel Carbon has been extremely pleased.

“We also have to say full marks to the general public for the tremendous cooperation. The police have been trying to forge that community policing impetus on Dominica and we’ve been calling on the general public to give us their support and everything went very well,” he stated.

The Acting Superintendent pointed out further that although there was an increase in police presence at most of the events the cooperation of the public was a major factor in an incident free season.

“The public realized that Dominica belongs to us and we all have a duty to create that environment of safety and soundness,” he said. “The police presence played a vital role but I think the public understood the level of responsibility as good citizens to discharge their work in terms of working with us to build that sort of community spirit.”

In the meantime Chief Cultural Officer Raymond Lawrence has described this year’s Independence celebrations as one of the best ever.

“In my humble opinion I think all the activities went very well,” he told DNO. “I thought that the whole spirit of the Independence was a positive one that the theme seemed to have encouraged people.”

Lawrence noted further that the major event such as Cultural Gala, Creole Day, National Day Parade, National Youth Rally can all be described as being successful activities.

“This year’s celebration’s has really been a resounding success,” he stated. “There is always room for improvement, so from every festival that happens at any time during the year you do an evaluation of the event and look to see where you can improve for the next time. So I would think that there are areas where we can improve but when we do our evaluation meeting we will be in a better position to say which areas need improvement.”

    Congratulation Laborites!

As it appears, the independence celebrations were incident-free because only laborites were out in large numbers.

Sorry UWP, you guys did a good thing by boycotting the celebrations.

Now we see who are the trouble makers.

Please stay out of anything civil in our lovely Dominica.

    Thank you
