Police seek Vincentians in drug bust; three Dominicans denied bail

The Dominicans arrested in the bust from left: Jerry Henry, Shan Pierre, Prosper Durand

Police are currently conducting investigations in a matter involving two Vincentian nationals, who reportedly fled the scene of a drug bust in Stowe on July 12.

Three Dominicans, charged in connection with the case, were denied bail when they appeared in court on Thursday.

Police prosecutor Michael Laudat, told the court that intelligence indicates that the Vincentians are still in the Grand Bay area.

According to the police officials, 1,427 pounds of cannabis, with a street value of over $1 million, were seized during the anti-drug operation.

Jerry Henry, Shan Pierre (of Grand Bay) and Prosper Durand (of Good Hope, now living in Stockfarm) were arrested and were all denied bail on the grounds that the prosecution needed more time to conduct its investigation.

The three were jointly charged for possession of cannabis and possession with intent to supply cannabis.

Durand was also separately charged with unloading goods from a vessel in a place other than a customs examination area, fraudulent evasion of duty and failure to give notice of arrival, by the customs.

The prosecutor objected to bail on the grounds that the men were a flight risk and that if they were released on bail they would interfere with evidence thus perverting the course of justice.

The trial date is set to 2nd December, 2013 in Grand Bay.

The men are being represented by Attorney at law Gina Dyer- Munroe.

Well spoken ‘Bolom City’ well spoken. Perception is everything. And it seems coke is king and Marijuana (which by-the-way many states in the US are considering to decriminalize, and some have legalized) gets the shaft. It’s a shame, major shame.

You do all of that by selling COCAINE? Before COCAINE, how was the children fed, clothed, and what not? Do not have children if you are unable to feed them. Is that the example you set forth for your children? Shameful.

Some Dominicans really backwards everything you all see the big country’s do you all say its right and we should do it too. Allu want Dominican to legalize the drug and think it going to boost income that is just a stupid idea because all those large country’s that legalized it are not exporting or growing to make income and you a little country believe you would make a large profit by exporting it . But the question is where would you export it and how ? You think the companies that are in charge of the cargo ships and aircraft would accept allu to export that on their ship/aircraft? LLOLL . And just check the size of Dominican you all even think we can ever produce enough of that to constantly supply any place ? That would just make the young people start dealing cocaine rather than marijuana bacause the value to them would drop greatly and thus causing more crime.

    • July 22, 2013

In whatever State that Marijuana was legalized this is only where they can use it, they cannot go in any other State because they will be arrested.

I agree on the grounds that it must be taxed and organized. Establish Permits to grow, only the government can distribute to shops and permits to sell. The government will make $ on the permits to grow, make $ on shops that purchase from them to sell, and make money on the taxes of those sales to tourists and locals.
Set Limits on the amount of plants that can be grown per permitted persons. Lifetime revocation of permits if the farmer breaks the law. No one with a criminal record should be permitted to grow the plant unless the previous record is related to marijuana use or possession. Use the guidelines set by the people and government in Amsterdam. The place with lowest crime and highest tolerance in the world. Start with one grower one shop and in one town then based on results expand the program. Use the $ from the legalization to pay down national debt and build up Coast Guard fleets to effectively protect and patrol our sovereign waters. If you parot for hard drugs like cocaine and crack then is off to a detention and rehab for you until you clean.
All this smuggling sotness must stop! Dominica doh have the population and drug users for anyone to get rich selling drugs. The island is being used as a transit point. The people facilitating that transit are the ones making $$$. UDOHREADYET!

I’m always advocating to the authorities in Dominica with regards to bail. I cant see the reason why they cant operate like the Americans or other countries. When any one is arrested and seeking bail, a 10% of the bail fee should be placed in the Govt.’s . treasury which is non refundable, these funds would assist to do essentials services in the country. I know this will help to curb come crimes on island. What I’m advocating is employ a BONDS MAN.I know that a person wouldn’t want to put at risk their $10.000.00 for standing bail to some criminals

That’s the thing with drugs it makes one get rich quick and then you thirst for more! How do your girlfriends, children, parents and family sleep at night or at all? I see most of the people in the Community are so proud of you all and all you’ve achieved! What garbage! Achievement is something that we can be proud of when we make honest and decent living! The poor ignorant ones are crying, begging for your release so you could get right back at it! What a shame, What a waste!
