St. Lucia police arrest Portsmouth men for drugs

4_ounces_of_marijuanaTwo men from Portsmouth have been arrested and charged by the St. Lucia Marine Police for possession, importation and intent to supply an illegal drug.

They have been identified as Germaine Lamothe, 46, and 27-year-old Zuff Joel William.

They were reportedly found with 186.43 kilos of marijuana in a boat off the coast of St. Lucia.

A release from the police from that island reveals that on Thursday, May 16 a boat was intercepted two miles west of Castries Harbour within the territorial waters of St Lucia.

The boat was identified by the markings “Provider” and bore the registration number J7-065-STE. At the time of the interception, there were two male occupants on board. They were later identified as Dominicans.

Also on that vessel, were a number of polythene bags. Under police escort, the vessel was moored to the Marine base where a thorough search was conducted.

Fourteen polythene bags in total were found on the boat, each containing dry green plant materials suspected to be Cannabis.

The bags had an accumulative weight of 411lbs or 186.43 kilos.

The two Dominicans were detained and later charged for the offences of Possession of a Controlled Drug, Possession with the Intent to Supply a Controlled Drug and Importation of a Controlled Drug.

They are to appear in court at a later date.

This is the second time in two months that Dominicans have been nabbed for drug trafficking in St. Lucia.

On March 15, 2013, two fishermen from Roseau, Dominica — Alex James, 39, and Rawlins Rolle, 33 — were arrested and charged in connection with a large drug seizure in the south of the island.

According the St. Lucia police, officers attached to the Marine Unit of the southern division intercepted a blue, orange and black boat named “Von Von,” 8.2 nautical miles south of Gros Piton, Soufriere in the island’s territorial waters.

The boat was searched and 1,487.2 pounds of cannabis were found.

war on drugs is useless… arrest two2 another two will pick from where the last two left off..if it was legalized that would reduce its value and thus ppl wont even bother to traffic it… do you see anybody trying to traffic cigarette and alcohol…think about it

  8. Legalize it
    May 18, 2013

In some islands south of St Lucia the government looks the other way so they grow & export. In Dominica crops get destroyed hence the importation. Dominican authorities need to learn from the US states that allow it and some OECS unwritten policies towards it. Its only common economic sense.

Nj I agree with you 100%. I saw the same program on CNN. There are states here within the US that are legalizing it for economic gain. The question is why can’t we in the islands do the same? Is it because our political leaders are so used to begging the US and other developed countries they fail to see the opportunity to build their economies? Maybe they’re scared the handouts will end if they legalize it. TEACH A MAN TO FISH..I SAY TEACH A MAN TO PLANT

We do not legalise Coffee, cocoa sugar cane and so on, marijuana is a natural grown herb blessed by the creator, criminalised by an American president with the view of making money, our pupet governments just towing the line and killing our own people for use of a natural herb, judgement day will come then we shall see who is the biggest criminal.
      Do not legalise just decreminalize!!!

like 2pac said we were born poor and the system is designed for poor people to remain poor. We don’t do these things because we want to we do it because we have to in other to survive.. We want to send our kids to nicer school than we did, give there the education and finer things life we didn’t get. so for this reason we will keep smuggling until we get what we need..
it’s not our fault it’s just a thug life..
So until the politicians put measures in place to that poor people or people from the ghetto can leave comfortably like Tony and his family we will die trying.. Thug On

    • May 18, 2013

Thug Life, what happened to good of FARMING? Banana, Cocoa, Coconut, Yam, Dasheen, Tania, and all that stuff that our parents used to sell to send us to school. SWEAT, brother. You do not have to sell DRUGS of any kind to send your children to school. We went to school, we did get the best of education, all of that on good old SWEAT. If you think this is the way out, you have a grand way of educating your children. I say, DO NOT BRING YOUR DRUGS TO THE OTHER MAN’S LAND. KEEP IT ON YOUR TURF.

its a drug! where on earth did you go to school? do you know the definition of ‘drugs’? and it is illegal.

      • Distured
        May 19, 2013

yes and by that definition it is still in unclear waters.

Do you know that in lethality cigs and alcohol can kill u in a shorter space of time?

        Reason: Chemicals!!!

In the case of the ganja vs other “controlled substances”, ganja wins.

Reason: It makes u feel good, sleepy and hungry. It helps with weight-loss.

Yes, you legalise drugs. What a good idea it would be to see those smoking ruin their lives, that of their children, oh, and not forgetting the future generation. You are fools if you believe that marijuana is a soft drug that does no harm. IT IS A MIND ALTERING DRUG THAT DOES LONG TERM DAMAGE- GO EDUCATE YOURSELVES ABOUT THE DANGERS OF ANY OF THESE TYPES OF DRUGS.

      • Abitrator
        May 18, 2013

I don’t support any type of illegal activities but the last time I check, Alcohol and cigarettes kill more people everyday than marijuana and they are both legal. Most of the medicine you buy legally at a drugs have a greater side effect than marijuana. Unlike most drugs, Marijuana is a depressant and not a stimulant. Yes it may have long term effects but so does alcohol and cigarettes. They need to legalize it and tax it hard. The whole world could benefit from that. Just remember Alcohol and Cigarettes were illegal back in the day. people went to jail for it and not its ok because the government figure out a way to make money on it.

      • Distured
        May 19, 2013

Mind altering…hmmm. Do you know that alot of the “good” music of the older generations… ole skool if u will, were acted out by intoxicated humans?

Some of the best poems out there come from stoners.

I’ve seen this particular substance, bring people together…who were recently at each others necks for blood.

The system is designed to make you think like puppets.

Think 1st, act maybe. That’s how it has you all fooled.

All of you in your 33 degrees don’t like the sensanilia because, it has the ability to make a man wiser (no additives), not smarter.

The system doesn’t like us wise.

Also, with legalization, if it happens, certain laws can be passed to assist this, so that we can still have a control on this substance and possible visits from drug lords across the board.

This will save a lot more of our tax paid moneys.

      • anonymous2
        May 20, 2013

If the drugs are legalized, there will be actually a drop in their use, as has been proven before in history, as well the price will drop. The mafia doesn’t want that to happen. They are making too much money by keeping drugs illegal.

Then again, the pot heads don’t care. There are people that will become addicted to it and have their mental capacity altered by it and there are also people that can smoke the stuff for years and still not fall under the heading of being altered by it. Drugs and herbs to not affect everyone the same way.
