The police say they are conducting investigations into what they described as an ‘alleged suicide’ in New Town.
The incident occurred about 6:00 am on Thursday.
Police PRO, Inspector John Carbon, said Claude Oscar of 78 Victoria Street was found hanging in his house by his neck from a wire.
The body, which was motionless, was transported to the Princess Margaret Hospital Accident and Emergency Department where it was pronounced dead upon arrival by a medical practitioner.
A coroner’s inquest will be convened to be followed by a post mortem examination.
Investigations are continuing, Inspector Carbon said.
Allu will stay making noise & disliking comments, but the fact of the matter is… Marijuana will always be around & there is nothing you “holier than thou” people can do to prevent the movement… Stop crying down the green, there are a lot more terrible things out in the world than marijuana, its the least of our worries… We should focus more on all the corruption we have in society, all the crime & violence, all the ignorant fools we place in power as our so called leaders. & who are you people to judge others on theirs habits anyway? Just cause you don’t approve doesn’t give you right to run your mouth & just go on criticizing, maybe if y’all smoked some weed more often you would be more relaxed! Power to the mary!
Its indeed a sad story mental illness/depression so many people succumb to it. You need to have a strong family and great support groups to pull through it, sorry

At the end of the day, he wasn’t an animal, he was a person with his faults like all of us. Most of you probably didn’t know the man. Depression is something that the everyday person that never experienced cannot understand. In the Dominican culture it carries a stigma, because of our mentality/ignorance. His family lost one of their own. RIP Claude Lionel Oscar, and may God comfort your grieving family.

Marijuana increases emotion.. that’s why if you smoking and you’re happy you’ll laugh at any little thing, but if you life has spiral into depression and all you do is smoke it will surely destroy you. That’s why it is a drug, and drugs have rules of when and if you should not take them. I saw a photo of the young man on another news website. I saw a face of a man in despair. What could have been the cause of his despair? We need to reach out to our people who are suffering through love, understanding, counselling and attending to their needs.

Newtown is a drugs place. Those people smoke weed and smoke drugs morning noon and night. When I post comments about those young people in Montego Bay and Sessame and Afridoom Square and by the savannah and cornwall street and High Street and all over Newtown area….. DNO REFUSE TO PUBLISH. There is a serious problem of substance abuse in this part of the country. It may not be directly be the reason ( a big might that is ) but the use of substances makes people more likely than not to commit suicide/crimes.
