Tommy Lee Sparta gets monetary offer from Dominica

Tommy Lee leaving the Marigot Police Station to be deported in 2014

Tommy Lee Sparta has received a monetary offer from Dominica in another twist in the long-running matter involving the controversial Jamaican dancehall artiste who was deported, along with his crew, from the island in 2014.

The artiste’s attorney, Bert Samuels, has confirmed the offer to settle the matter to Jamaica-based radio station Irie FM.

“We are happy to say that the Dominican government has written to us and has made a monetary offer for all four persons who were wrongfully turned away,” Samuels told Irie FM.

He said he has met with his client and they are considering the offer.

“Negotiations are continuing,” Samuels stated. “I cannot divulge what the offer is but we continue to negotiate.”

Tommy Lee, whose real name is Leroy Russell, was to perform at a concert in February 2014 in Portsmouth, organized by Cabral Douglas, however, organizations, such as the Dominica Association of Evangelical Churches denounced the artiste’s appearance saying his music glorifies Satan and promotes lawlessness and violence.

On his arrival in Dominica, Tommy Lee, 26, along with his three-member team, Tiasha Oralie Russell, Junior Fraser and Mario Christopher Wallace were denied entry, detained and deported the following day.

The government of Dominica said its action was based in the interest of public safety.

Meanwhile Douglas has demanded US$3-million from the government in compensation in the matter, however the demand was turned down.

He has now taken the matter to the Trinidad-based Caribbean Court of Justice and it is being heard today, Monday, December 12.

Protesters said Tommy Lee Sparta’s music promotes violence

Dominica’s hospital is a waste of time. What is the gov’t doing to improve the facility and services provided?

Them so called Christians are hypocrites.

Where are the protests against the politicians and their corrupt and disrespectful behavior?

Where is the money coming from? The country’s paying for it when it was the PM that made such a stupid call.

      December 13, 2016

At least you are honest. there are many church goers around the world but not many Christians. In fact Christianity is a relationship with the trinity. We must accept Jesus Christ and live in his ways, then keep rebuking the devil and his demons daily. We are all sinners but by grace we live! if it were for our lives we would have been trash in the kingdom of god but because he loves mankind and has prepared a place for those who accept then we have a chance. The Cross.
He went down to hell and took the keys from Satan. Satan is confined to so much. There are even demons bound in hell. Imagine if they could do everything they wanted to do. The earth would have been destroyed in two days. Think people! Think! Let’s start treating each other the way that we would like to be treated.
      May his name be glorified!

Church goers do not make such comments. You must be one who goes to church for the sake of going; nothing godly behind it. You should be supporting them. You are the hypocrite.
Matthew 12:33 – A Tree and Its Fruit – Either declare the tree good and the fruit is good or declare the tree rotten and its fruit rotten, for a tree is known by its fruits. . . For from the fullness of the heart, the mouth speaks.
Matthew 12:35: 37 – A good person brings out good out of a store of goodness but an evil person brings forth evil. I tell you on the day of judgment, people will render an account for every careless word they speak. By your words you will be acquitted. By your words you will be condemned.
This also goes for Tommy Lee Sparta and his D/can supporters.

Dominicans are our own worst enemies.

How many artists, public speakers or someone promoting hate and division other countries would detain because they do not believe for whatever reason, what the artist or person is promoting or represents is in the best interest of the people in a country and would not allow them entry to their borders to perform or give their presentation.

If a government cannot protect its citizens from what it believe is not in its citizen best interest without Dominicans telling said people to sue its own government and people, every citizens have to wonder whether we are working for ourselves or against ourselves and that is the question everyone have to ask ourselves.

I mean the promoter knew many Dominicans believe they were protecting their self and children from not having the artist perform yet he could not care less and was determined to have him come on island. The government and people should not be responsible.

Nobody was being forced to attend the event it was being held on private property for those adults who purchased tickets…so the ticket holders rights were infringed, the promoters rights were infringed, and the artist who spent the night in jail rights were infringed…

Guess the evangelical churches will claim “act of God” to avoid legal repercussions and “divine intervention” to escape their moral ones. Is there a christian version of shariah law I wonder? Pity they don’t have the convenient sacrament of confession but perhaps they can come to some concordat with their catholic brethren that will allow them to dip their wicks in a font of holy water instead of more unseemly places.

Are you telling me, anyone can hold an event on private property with no regard for the law?

Are you telling me you have never remain in your home depending on your home location and have never heard something taking place without seeing it live but hear sounds from the place?

Are you telling me no children could hear the lyrics or anything said or sang even not inside where the performance was to take place?

You mean your secular rights? Wait till the 7 year tribulation and you’ll understand what infringement of rights will be. Folks we don’t have to go that far to understand that there is a spiritual war going on between the spirit of man through their sovereign will and the kingdom of darkness. I am just realizing why so much hardship is going on today. What is man?
We are fragile! A flu knocks us down. pneumonia can kill us! Little viruses destroy us!
What is so wrong about unity? Treating each other right? Showing compassion and mercy? being slow to anger, rage, selfishness…….
        what is man?

Everyone is responsible for his/her own actions. We are guaranteed freedom of speech, freedom of expression and freedom of assembly under our sonstitution. We do not all like or appreciate another mans’ pleasure, attitude or behaviour but as long as it is within the law we must tolerate it in a democratic society. We can not have one group dictating to the rest of the population as to how they should live. What we saw here was religious dictatorship. Our government has legal obligations, not only at home but also internationally, which it has to observe. If this Jamaican artiste was perceived a threat to public order, they could have taken appropriate steps to ban his performance in Dominica before he arrived in our country instead of locking him up on arrival.

Adults can decide if they want to go or not. Parents can send their children if they want them to go or they can choose not to. There is no law against any type of musical performance. The people who were going to be at that show are people who already listen to his music.

This was illegal plain and simple. The government acted out of political interest which is only less despicable than the fact that they lied about it by claiming that he was “a threat to national security”.

Any Dominican with half a brain knows that is complete nonsense. Not even the people arguing that he should have been banned repeat that silly excuse. They talk about demons and evil and what not but anybody who listens to anything other than purely christian music knows that music is entertainment.

Bob Marley had a song where he said “I feel like bombing a church”. Would they have banned him from coming to Dominica to perform too?

      December 13, 2016

Dominica is a country government by laws. In the statute books there are laws against indecency, and laws against buggery, making a gay pride parade illegal. In the case of Tommy Lee, the man was denied entry, arrested and deported for no reason at all. He could not have been arrested for his lyrics because he never performed any offensive lyrics in Dominica, he was arrested upon his arrival. This is a gross human rights violation. The Government needs to pay those people their money and stop making fools out of themselves and the country by extension….

No one can stop us, eh? Well, remember the Titanic which sank some years ago and the majority of passengers and crew died?
The man who helped build the Titanic said to a Priest in those days, who had preached on LOVE for God and for others. After Holy Mass he went to the Priest and told him he was one of the builders. In that ship it was written: “No one can sink this ship; not even God.” This was the pride. Pride comes before the fall – of Satan and his followers as yourself. Well, you know the fate of the Titanic and what occurred to it.
Try it and defy the government and the other authorities as the Police Force and see what will happen. As you do, keep in mind God’s fire and brimstone. I think God is tired of this type of abomination which is flaunted in His Holy Face.

Who, in the Government of Dominica, would want to stoop so low, to be in a witness chair at banter with someone like this young individual?

I can almost hear the Government’s Voice saying: Give him money, if that is what he wants–take it and leave us alone; go away and don’t come back!.

However money, regardless of its amount, cannot buy the Grace that belongs to the Soul, and sanctification that belongs to the mind–those substances are priceless!

It is that torment and torture that this Tommy Lee person is already suffering–wandering with a carnal condition of the mind and a dead soul within; the suffering has not yet started.

He is surely one of those individuals who is not going to “rest-in-peace” on the day he takes his exit from existence in the world–so what good is the money going to do for him?

Good morning to you. God is not for mistreating mankind but showing them love, mercy, grace, hope….. If there was mistreating then it was not from Jesus Christ. I want you to know that God lets his rain fall on both the just and the unjust Matthew 5:45.
If God created everything on this earth by the power of his word he has no need for anything here. When Jesus came out of the wilderness from his 40 day and night fasting, Satan tempted him to throw himself down and let the angels catch him. Satan was referring to Psalms 91 verse 12 “they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone” Jesus responded ““It is also written: ‘Do not put the Lord your God to the test”. He is also the judge so we should not judge. He wants to be true witnesses meaning that we speak the truth.
Do you really know the individual whom you are defending?

Is this the same Skerrit who stutters and stammers about leadership??So he is absolutely ignorant on CSME and the movement of artists?…He and the evangelical church should meet the cost, and not the poor tax payers…HE OBVIOUSLY DID THIS TO TOMMY LEE,for votes from the church members.!!!Wonder when this inept man’s destruction of Dominica will end.

I agree for the artist not to be allowed to perform. I don’t belong to any protestant church but I still agree with them. Our country has to much violence for such a population.

    • Tjebe fort
      December 12, 2016

Cindy, the government could have done that before he arrived. They did not handle this at all well. I think his music is offensive and horrible but the man should not have been subjected to that kind of treatment.

    • Dante Jones
      December 13, 2016

Well he wasn’t allowed to perform and how did that affect the level of violence? It seems to me since that time up til now we’ve had pretty much record breaking crime levels. Shootings, robberies, murders etc. None of this is new either. Unfortunately violence (and a very morbid view of violent acts) is a part of our culture. No amount of banning artists will stop that

  29. Dominicans Fight For DA
    December 12, 2016

A lot of ignorance in the world today. I commend the Evangelical group for standing p against Tommy Lee Sparta and the rest of the ignorant minds in DA. They will never know that the money Sparta is about to be awarded will no bring him any good and Dominica is not in the lost. When you live according to the world, you see only the justice of the world. You will never see what Elohim has planned for DA. I hope all people who left Dominica never come back to DA, bringing their American perspectives back to the island. Dominicans in DA should vote to ban Dominicans returning to the island who did not leave under a Government supported initiative like an Exchange program. People that ran from DA hoping to find better lives else where will try to return home, they wont be able to tolerate America. Th current Administration should lift the returning home allowance at the port for Dominicans returning home who never left under Government Exchange Program. Bunch of Opportunists.

So you’re not concerned about a regime who has completely sold out Dominica to the New World Order but you’re so alarmed at some reggae artist performing there. You are either an extreme hypocrite or naive.

    • Dante Jones
      December 13, 2016

Hahaha you want to ban diaspora from coming back when they’re the only spark of life in this dead country (which you can see every time at independence season) and not to mention the dollars the bring into the economy. And you call people ignorant.

  30. December 12, 2016

I am sorry to hear such craziness about DA, if you dont like to go to concerts that’s not your preference you don’t have to attend and secondly these concerts are mostly for the younger people. Why put DA in such a bad position where you have to dish out millions of dollars. These Evangelicals who started this protest should come up with the money to pay for the problem they stared if DA have money to give away why they don’t put it to use and make jobs available for the people to work.

“Based in the interest of public safety” LOL what a joke. Religion has no place in government affairs in this modern world. There should be a declaration of separation of religion and state in Dominica. If this was indeed done “based in the interest of public safety.” then that would be a recommendation from one of the religious leaders in Dominica as it was after the protesters came out that the government took action. There is a relation, no coincidence here. There was no discussion between the public and the government about this minor thing which got escalated but more so there was mostly discussion with religious leaders who pushed their way on the government and got what they wanted. This should not be. The government should come to an agreement basked on representatives of the public as a whole. They didn’t do that the first time so now they pay the price for not following what is in our constitution.

You are not smart. Do you know that God is everywhere? You can take him out of your heart and mouth but you cannot prevent him from watching your every move, wherever you are, for your judgment.
You cannot take him out of anywhere. It is His world. We are only on borrowed time.
Know that only fools say there is no God. Those who think Religion and State should separate and not mix lack moral and godly enlightenment.
You would prefer this man to bring in his demonic ways in Dominica. Those who are on the side of God, wherever they go, God is with them. Those on the side of the enemy of God and of our souls, wherever they go, he is right there with them. The latter will not be to their mortal and spiritual benefit. One day it will be to their detriment and eternally so. Choose the path.

You’re so right Truth. Allah is the supreme authority over all. NO state cannot be ruled unless it is ruled by the laws of the almighty God. One day in sha Allah the sharia will take effect in Dominica and we wouldn’t even have to worry about demonic dancehall artists because music in and of itself will be haram as decreed by the prophet (PBUH).

I am looking at the photo of the protesters and my guess is, if you had to collect money from them to pay the claim, you would likely be hard pressed to collect $100,000. But they do have a right to have their voices heard, so I don’t blame them. The person who I blame is the prime minister, who operates as if he is the king and so he rules by decree.

In the meantime, he will forgo repairing feeder roads in order to reach a settlement with Sparta.

I hope he learns his lesson.

God allows certain things to happen to see how far we will go waiting for us to turn back. It is Satan’s role to do whatever he can to destroy us because he cannot destroy the creator but he can seek to destroy his creation! If God needed us he would force us to worship him but because he is God over all, and his love endures for ever, and his word is his bond, he lets us do whatever we chose to do. REV 11:7 ” Now when they have finished their testimony, the beast that comes up from the Abyss will attack them, and overpower and kill them.” Satan has a certain period of time among us. His goal is to destroy us.
Rev 11:10 “The inhabitants of the earth will gloat over them and will celebrate by sending each other gifts, because these two prophets had tormented those who live on the earth” When this will happen in the future, inhabitants will celebrate as the text said.
Then will They be called up to heaven while the inhabitants stay below to be tormented.

Whether it is a political, or (spiritual from another source) notice the parallel. We are here trying to warn, protect and guard against demonic entities manifesting through music, dance, symbols…. and we are constantly being attacked by negativity!
The pastors and church goers who manipulate and imitate Christianity have much to answer to, however the true preachers of the word of God and Christians will not go unnoticed by Jesus Christ!
Our role is not to create fear in your minds but to share the word of Christ and the love that he has to offer through forgiveness, grace, hope, love, mercy, and compassion.
Please do not be one of those going down the broad way of destruction! For there is a narrow path that will lead you to grace and mercy (eternal life).
      May Jesus’s name be glorified.

A country’s authority has a right to refuse entry to whoever he so willed. He was not arrested when he set foot in Dominica.. He was told to return to his jet. He refused. Only then was he arrested. As Jamaicans say, he is boldface. This is why he should never get a cent. They should give him some Canadian Tire Store money or some fake money. This is what he deserves.
The man is a bad example, not morally nor godly. He is a bad example to especially the youths.

If the government i.e. Roosevelt Skerrit banned this artiste at the behest of the evangelical churches I think it is only fair that these churches should pay for any damages and not the Dominican taxpayers as a whole. Whether or not I approve of or like Tommy Lee is immaterial.

    • Dante Jones
      December 12, 2016

Exactly. But see the government take it on themselves to comply with the wishes of a few idiots because they needed their endorsement from the pulpit. Now they have to pay it on themselves because apart from the leaders of those so called evangelical associations it’s hard to hold anybody but the government accountable for what happened. The saddest part is that the money is most likely going to come out of the public purse since they supposedly acted on behalf of the country.

Dante, you are right my boy but it are those preachers who are always going on about morality. Well, let them show their true colour and accept the moral responsibility for this expense to all of us. Let’s see what they have got to say about that! December 12, 2016

Chris Brown was denied an entry visa on the basis that he is a convicted felon. So he never travelled to Australia.

In this case, Dominica knew they were going to detain and deport Tommy Lee but allowed him to travel anyway and never notified the promoters, which is not only negligent, but a treaty violation.

In addition, unlike Americans travelling to Australia (ie Chris Brown) CARICOM nationals do not require entry visas to land in member states!!!
