Two Dominicans have been arrested in connection with a large drug seizure in St. Lucia.

The incident occurred around 9:00 pm last Friday.

The men have been identified as Alex James and Rawlins Rolle.

According the St. Lucia police, officers attached to the Marine Unit of the southern division intercepted a blue, orange and black boat named “Von Von,” 8.2 nautical miles south of Gros Piton, Soufriere in the island’s territorial waters.

The boat was searched and 1,487.2 pounds of cannabis were found.

James and Rolle, who were aboard the vessel, were arrested and taken into custody.

The drugs were seized by police.

Charges are expected to be laid against the men at a later date.

Well, they are in big trouble. No freedom for sometime. I assume, no Dominica too.
This is a lot of cannabis. The worth of the drugs was not stated. Millions of dollars I suppose.
They know they stand a chance of getting caught and will spend some time in prison but they still take chances. They are brave.

It’s only the signs of the times..It got to hit rock bottom..
(as for my house)asked,”If it’s the sign of the time in Dominica, what time it is in America?”
That should tell you that it’s late in the day.I won’t even go as far back to when I was raised a little boy in Dominica.Ten,fifteen years ago Dominica had no cocaine and if atol there was it would have been on the down low.Murders with guns,I could almost say no,with the exception of a murder/suicide in the Goodwill area, where the gentleman shot his wife and then himself.
Or when the then defence forcers in conjunction with the police took to the bushes after the rastafarians and guns were used. And even then it was a big thing in the country, the talk of the town.
But what we have now,and not only in Dominica,it would appear to be through out the caribbean.
That should speak something to you. It’s somewhat world wide and that’s cause for concern..

That is a load. I thinking of ten bags of rice. Heavy and taking a lot of space. Since the herb is so much lighter, the boat had to be full. Was the boat going to deliver or coming back to DA with its cargo. I suspect it was coming because those big stocks do not slip pass our police. Good thing they were caught over there because it would be another “OUT ON BAIL, NO JAIL” according to Lady Star.

Ok guys I got the result of the survey I called for today. It is ok to shower glory to the PM and the DLP when Dr. carissa Etienne gets a job abroad, but when Dominicans are caught with drugs abroad, almost on a weekly basis, and sometimes even get killed, the Pm should not be blamed? My bad I blame the opposition because they are responsible for unemployment and boarder control. It is the opposition that decides when to send the police boat out, when to pull it back and its whereabout.

Act of Contrition i agree with you. Its strange how the PM has the Police Force on his side. However refuses to increase their salaries. That’s one of the reasons why the Force is so corrupt.

Tell them to remain in school, study hard, graduate and they may get a good-paying job. They could even apply overseas for a good job. They must live a law-abiding life.
Most importantly, worship God and practice the faith. Too many want good things to happen to them but they neglect their God who is The One who gives in every respect. If you want something good you must work legally for it. In the interim have patience.

Marihuana should be legalized and taxed. It will bring revenue to the farmers and full the Government coffers. Tourists will fluck to Dominica and the canibis cafes will do great business.

No longer will our Dominicans have to travel to St.Vincent to get marijuana. Dominicans can grow the weed right in their backyards and sell to the cafes in Roseau.

We can also turn it to powder for export to pharmaceutical companies around the world. Produce tea bags from it for local consumption and for exports. Major European supermarket are Laredo selling marihuana ice tea.

We could end up passing the state of Kentucky in earnings from the production of the herb.

And I don’t smoke it because smoking kills. But I see a great business opportunity if only we had the courage and the foresight to legalize the herb.

You do not smoke it and you know it kills. Yet you stated it should be legalized – to kill many. Some will smoke it, get sick and die. You do not like them.
Marijuana may be a herb but it is not a herbal remedy that cures. It is a dangerous herb which can kill those who ingest it. I would not wish this for anyone.

Legal the damn thing…allu not seeing the trend start in the US…2 states have legalized it, make them your export location..because if allu don’t secure the weed market in the US , as more and more US states legalize it you all will be late on the bandwagon. Refine your product and export a high grade high quality product to the places that are smart enough to legalize it and because u best believe more and more states will join that movement. Local authorites and judges in MOST US municipalities are not prosecuting the youth for having low quantities of weed, it is clogging the justice system as well as jails…they not locking people up for that….the 2 states is the beggining , it was just to feel out the sentiment of the public who so far have shown little to no opposition to legalizing the stuff…get with it D/ca this is the next big thing for you! This can replace your depleted banana and lime market!

I know that my comments will evoke a lot of anger but as the saying goes the truth hurts, so here we go: you guys are constantly bashing the use of marijuana which people have been using for many many years in Dominica with no social problems attached.

The new style is to now blame all the social ills taking place now firmly at the feet of the said marijuana and our young men and women. But until we as a society decide to be completely honest and
face up to the real reason that things are out of control, there will be no change.

        1: Crack Cocaine
        2: Heroin
        3:Cocaine
        4:LSD/Acid
This is by no means an exhaustive list, but believe that these are what we should be worrying about. These are the reasons for the dramatic increase in crime in the nature isle..addicts will rob..kill..anything and anyone in order to find their next fix.

Stop blaming marijuana and awaken from your deep slumber and find solutions to the catastrophe that is happening right before your eyes. See the bigger picture peoples..where do you think all these drugs are coming from..do you really think that the poor man has the resources to provide the planes..boats..finances for the amount of illicit drugs that are flooding the island and destroying our young and old..these guys are just pawns in a much bigger cover up..and ask yourselves why the big boys are not seen to be making a fuss when it comes to the HARDCORE DRUGS…WAKE UP DOMINICANS.

DNO, Last week you posted the report of a DLP / CADRES survey where the government wanted to know how Dominicans felt about two important issues and how those issues would affect them if an election were called now. Of couse the issues of concern were. 1. The Villa issue, which Peter Wickham said was not a problem for most Dominicans 2. The unemployment issue, which CADRES said was more of an issue.

However, I have two more issues that I would like the DLP / CADRES to conduct a survey on:

1.How many Dominicans have either been caught with drugs &/OR lost their lives because of drugs, since the DLP became in power? Also, in addition to that please find out if this issue was similar with other administrations.

2.Why has the crime rate increased so drastically since the DLP / Skerrit took over the country? How safe do Dominicans and visitors feel today? Has it ever been so before? Please DLP / CADRES go ahead and put out the report when finished. That will help us know how well you are doing and help us make a well informed decision next election.

The objective of a survey is to see how well we are doing, so we could keep on doing what we’ve been doing if the result is good, or how bad we doing so we could tighten up. Please read my comment again and tell me where I blamed Skeritt for that.
But by the way, it is alright for him to take credit when he gets a small 34 seater to replace American Eagle but it wrong is wrong to blame him for crime that has escalated. Should I blame mr James for that?

    • March 18, 2013

If you listen to news, the crime rate has increased the world over. Stop making it seem like this is happening only in D/A. However, the problem is the young people want to get rich overnight and are not prepared to give an honest day’s work for an honest pay…..they are too envious of what others have and want to live like the Jone’s. Do you hear of any of the Haitians hear caught selling drugs to make a living….the majority of them are employed and do not stand on the streets begging either, so what’s wrong with our D/can youth? There are may opportunities for them to become self employed after learning a skill through the youth training program. Further, the Small Business Unit is there to assist young people with starting a small business by providing finances and management stills to them.
