Despite the furore created over the large amount of explicit videos circulating on social media, two more were released over the weekend.
Sources who have been monitoring the videos for Dominica News Online said the videos show local girls performing explicit sexual acts.
The videos have been circulating mostly on smart phones via BlackBerry Messenger and WhatsApp.
Recently there has been an explosion of locally made video on social media which has raised concerns among many segments of the society in Dominica.
One business place in Roseau was served with a legal letter alleging that at least one video was disseminated from there.
The business place was told to settle the matter “amicably to avoid unpleasantness…”
Meanwhile police PRO, Inspector John Carbon, said law enforcement authorities in Dominica have contacted the office of the Director of Public Prosecution in finding ways to tackle the issue since there is nothing in legislation which gives the police the power to go ahead and prosecute individuals involved.
He said something can be done from a civil perspective but in terms of a criminal offense, “there is a problem.”
Adults set no standards and we getting vex!! Isn’t this the Dominica we promote? “Man around”, “Free up my Brother”, “me i not telling nobody nuttin, i on my own scene”. We were a strong country when neighbors where neighbors, when men were men, women were women and children were allowed to be children! No respect for ourselves. The government will have to enact a law to give the law enforcement some clout to lay charges. Obviously, their hands are tied until the government passes a relevant bill.
Are they all young people who do this sort of thing as taking those pictures? I urge you to stop. You will not remain young. One day you will grow to adulthood and beyond and will feel ashamed that you ever did such a thing. Those pictures could be used against you.
The Internet is widely used by employers. These days, prior to being employed, prospective employers access the Internet for information pertaining to applicants.
If there is information about you out there which is not positive and such pornography, you will never be employed. You could hinder your chances of ever obtaining a job.
This includes whatever you state on Face Book. Be careful of what you state on the Internet. Never make statements that you will regret for probably the remainder of your life. Take note and pay heed. Do not tarnish your future.

Thank you for articulating your reasons why people should avoid such behavior. You have done it without sounding “preachy” – something I have trouble doing. DNO is read by many people outside Dominica. It has a significant numer of followers in my own country, Canada. Your comments may reach many young hearts.
Most of us including myself did some foolish things in our youth. We are not “condemning” these young people. It’s just that we know (usually freom experience) teens often do things for the sheer fun of it with no thought of the possible consequences.
The preacher might call it sin. The word “sin” comes from a Greek word that means “missing the mark”. Literally it did not necessarly mean something evil. It could be simply a silly or careless mistake.
The teacher might call it an error in judgment.
The psychologist might call it compulsive behavior.
This is because each of us speaks from our own perspective. It is a wise person who realizes we all mean basically the same thing. None of us are speaking to “judge” or “condemn”. We are addressing something that (a) should not have happened and (b) has the potential of hurting the person who did it or others. Each of us offer our own solution or cure. Probably the best answer includes all of these or some of each.
Justice and Truth, all the consequences you have spoken of are not only potential outcomes but are probable. Young people are at a time in life when they either do not think of these things OR they have a vague feeling that the fun is worth the risk.
Every nation needs strong laws in place and law enforcement that is committed to making those laws work. This works as a preventative. Unfortunately there will always be those who will nor obey the laws. Then the laws serve the purpose of containing the problem. Hopefully, offenders who are brought to justice will receive counseling and be rehabilitated.

Now they should think about the possiblities of this hindering their opportunity of getting getting a good job, and the possible shame of a daughter or son someday seeing the pics. With a right attitude and proper counseling they can rise above these potential problems. But why should they have to?
The fact that this shameful behaviour is spreading so fast does indeed suggest an epidemic. Obviously it is time for the best legal minds in government to put their heads together and hand down some tough laws before more young people lose big pieces of their future.

We have the same problems in Canada and we are working on them here. Not long ago our government handed down some good laws. Now much depends on law enforcement and the judges to do their jobs.
