January Criminal Assizes adjourned

AssizesThe January Criminal assizes which opened at the Roseau high court on January 21, 2014 has been adjourned for one week. There are over 30 cases on the list all those charged pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Among the matters on the list are forgery, incest, money laundering, bestiality, handling stolen goods, causing death by dangerous driving, causing grievous bodily harm, burglary, theft and wounding with intent.

Matters which were traversed from the September assizes and which are not on the January assizes include that of Merlyn Thomas Mann of Kingshill, who is charged with grievous bodily harm with intent. She is on bail in the amount of EC$24,000, and the matter is set for February 3, 2014. She is represented by Wayne Norde.

Another case is that of Titus Williams and Clarence Lewis, who are facing several charges of theft and burglary at the home of Marvlyn Robinson in April 2011, the night she was murdered, where items in excess of $50,000 dollars were stolen.

A matter involving Lindon Lestrade, which was traversed, is also on the list. Lestrade has been charged with grievous bodily harm and is represented by Zena Moore Dyer. His matter is set for March 10, 2014.

Prosecuting for the state is Director of Public Prosecutions, Evalina Baptiste, assisted by state attorneys Sherma Dalrymple and Athlyn Nesty. Justice Bernie Stephenson is the presiding judge.

    You mean to tell me that the Case of Nash Michel and the Past Port Issue has not been called….and the case matter involving Element Agencies – La-plaine has not yet been called.\?

    DNO i need to say something although it is not related to January Court Cases. I don’t leave in Dominica but i am a Dominican i received a Chronicle and one thing that bothered me is when I read some business person selling all different kind of oil even dragon blood etc,i was shock, is the Government legalizing witchcraft? Somebody please answer me.

    Can’t be;ieve this. Everyting is adjourned. Life itself is adjourned in Dominica. You mean to tell me that the case of Marvlin Robinson, the burglary during which she was killed, still not tried after more than two years soon to be three years?. Ourjudiciary is either inefficient or incompetent, maybe both. And so many lawyers we have!

    Marvlyn Robinson was not murdered in April, 2011. She was murdered on the night of November 2nd. Please correct. The burglary must have taken place when you stated but she was murdered in November, 2012.
