Residents of the northern part of the island were treated to a dazzling display of cultural performances at the Northern District Cultural Semi-finals held at the Cabrits National Park in Portsmouth on Sunday.
The event formed part of Dominica’s 2012 independence celebrations.
There were competitions for children and adult groups from villages such as Capuchin, Paix Bouche, Dos D’ane, Penville and the town of Portsmouth.
The groups participated in a series of traditional dances including among others, Waltz and Heel and Toe .
Gloria Shillingford, Minister of Community Development and Raymond Lawrence, chief cultural officer were among those attending the event.
Below are some photos from the event.

Hats off to you for posting your photo. Yours is the first I’ve seen on D.N.O. I stand corrected. I have to agree with you, that the photographer is good at his job.
Kudos to the kids ….it must have taken a whole of practice sessions to get there, and one can see that they are giving it their all.
Kudos to the parents for being so supportive.

This was a lovely show, and well patronized. It’s heart-warming to see so many youths participating in the cultural activities. Our culture is here to stay. Good luck to the participants of the Miss and Madame Wob.
JUST MAGNIFICENT!
DNO, you report that the audience was treated to a dazzling display and left it at that. The story should give us the readers an idea of the performances that thrilled the audience.
