The fans of Stardom Calypso Tent have said no and organizers have complied: there will be no Calypso Clash of the Tent.
At least, that is the explanation given to DNO by main organizer of Stardom, Norman Letang, in explaining why the event will not be staged.
Letang told DNO on Thursday morning that although a meeting was planned to discuss whether the event should go ahead, this proved unnecessary when the crowd who attended Stardom Tent’s Wednesday night’s show, boldly expressed that they were not in favour of it.
“We didn’t have to have a meeting because when we went there, the MC at one time spoke about Clash of the Tents and people said no! no! no! no!,” Letang explained. “So we could see the fans were not in favour. I went to the calypsonians to discuss it and I told them ‘well, you all are seeing what just happened; the way people are reacting, if we have it we might lose our fans.’”
Letang added that the calypsonians agreed with the fans and therefore the event is “definitely off.”
He pointed out, however, that the the idea might be explored again after the Carnival season or some other time.
The event was being organized so that calypsonians from Stardom and Showdown Mas Camp would take to the stage to battle each other. It was expected to take place on Friday evening (February 21).
Meantime, organizers of the Showdown Mass Camp said they will continue their regular Friday night show.
“On this Friday we will be highlighting our finalists; King Dice, the Wave, Leona, Boople, the Bobb and we are encouraging everybody to come out and have a good time in the spirit of enjoying real good, true calypso,” Daryl Bobb said.
Well it was a good thing it was cancelled in the sense that I paid only $15 to go to Mas Camp and I got an unexpected $60 worth despite the late start. Look bon temps! The Bull sucked it to us! The Dice rocked it to us! The duet performance was great. Evaluated the second songs. And the band lady sent me way back when. Woke up at 11 a.m on Saturday and could still hear the music and the excited crowd, saying We Want More. Can’t wait for Friday to come because I want a repaeat.
Something has been bothering me for some time, especially this season. The writers of calypso who are writing songs that things are so financially bad in Dominica, why all these shows for the same people to come too? Isn’t that speaking on both sides of their mouths?
The clash of the tent is another money making grabbing machine. Glad Stardom commonsense prevail. Give the people a break.
Well they did the masses a favor because the level of calypso is below average this year.
It does not take any scientist to see that the Dominica we knew in the 80s and mid 90s is no longer the same.
I used to go to calypso shows at the Arawak Cinema with my God mother, in days of Solo, Soanes, and the rest I was 14 years old then and man, I enjoyed the shows, no controversy. Now its greed, envy, and a kind of attitude that is very difficult to understand. Papa Bondie! Help Dominica and Dominicans, we need some peace and tranquillity in our land. We are only passing for a little time. Spread the love too much anger. Gosh man.

Stardom members need to stay together and be loyal you see Bob this man will do anything to make pat and mascamp look good including selling his soul.
Maps camp never would agree to have the clash if mas champ was big this year.only one so call singing Sandra with the ratie song.they have and all the rest of the songs are recycle. Pat quit while you still have strength and go write gospel and confest to God ,like how you always

But i heard on the radio it was a small crowd at Stardom and I heard Ossie lewis comments .A big old man like Letang acting that way shame on you NORMAN LETANG

Who can forget last year incidents with Hunter and Srunter; helped significantly by some radio shows. And this Year? Sandy deciding enough is enough and bowing out and not forgetting for Leona incident as just another way to try and disrupt Stardom Tent and trying to blame Stardom.
We can see most unpleasantness between the tents do not originate with Stardom. The holier than Thou attitude being portrayed by some is not being lost on the fans because we follow what is going on. Attitudes must change and somehow, I do not think it is from Stardom side.

It is always good to hear both sides. I listened to Bobb on TV and Radio stating that they (mas camp) agreed to a 50-50 share in expenses and profits, that’s all. Norman Letang spoke on DBS last night at Stardom Tent and stated the issues they faced was 1. Mas Camp wanted a 70-30 percentage because they were giving up their friday night 2. Stardom has to give up the Wednesday night tent. In looking at the 2 points, how is Mas Camp giving up a night when the clash is proposed at their camp, and as a result, will stand to make more money as more people should attend. Secondly, why should Stardom give up their usual Wednesday night. Their is no logical reason to back up their request. So guys like Bobb only bringing controversy to calypso. I believe that for the clash of tents to occur, a neutral place should be located and also held on any day excepting wednesday and friday. This would result with any of the tents having to give up their normal weekly nights. I also believe that a neutral person should be appointed to negotiate between both camps.
The fans had to decide? So because the fans or some fans say no. Mr latang come better than that. you use the fans as an excuse, perfect timing for u. Give us the real reason why.

So much tension all over the place. I am also going to Fanatik Band. They seem to be the only band not always is some roro. I looking for change too. Professionalism, positivity and pride looks like Fanatik to me. Hope they keep it up!!!

They cannot unite to have one band for a simple competition yet they ARE calling for Clash of the Tents with two bands..

Da is such a rate race! Caysonianonia against calypsonians, bands against bands politicians against politicians, churches against churches. Why can’t we just unite. We tend to think that someone is always ready to take us down all for the value of the dollar.
I know I am looking to be cursed off here. However, I am laughing at your expense. Did you intend to say ‘rate’ race. You know how DNOs audience are, they check every spelling. Come on we all started off learning to spell with ‘rat’. I know I will the only one to enjoy this as much as I am enjoying it. (I am not one of those who check spelling though…not those…live-leave; sit-seat those kinds of things to me are not spelling errors, they are a result of the wrong use of words). For some reason the rate thing was hilarious.
ma’jor is not we who invent division, read the bible and accept it,If we were united we would have been built an unnecessary and useless skyscraper to reach Jah already. So to ease up mans fight against him he set division in all that you talk about plus language and ,,,,,etc.
From the time the idea was brought up I would have said NO! Plain and simple. Mas Camp always at Stardom’s throat. Look what happened with that Leona story and you all talking clash! When Mas Camp start behaving like calypso belongs to everyone, then, and maybe then, will hands shake and both parties will work together.
This is a cop out and Mr Letang should be ashamed on himself. Is he trying to say that only a handful of people get to make that decision? How underneath to pass the buck in that way send do absolve himself of wrong doing. But then I guess , when you are the best dance band in the WORLD……….

In light of what transpired concerning the Leona incident I think that this was a good decision.
