One female calysonian will rise and be crowned Calypso Queen on Wednesday night at the Stardom Calypso Tent.

Promoter, Leroy “Wadix” Charles, described the event, which will take place at the Sisserou Hotel, as “a pre-Valentine night” and said it is going to be “royal.”

“Tonight is a royal night… it’s a pre-Valentine’s night and we dub it the ‘ladies night’ at Stardom Tent where we will crown a Kaiso Queen,” he said.

On the line-up are Lady star, Janae, Alisha, Delah, Twanna, and Sting Ray.

Sugar S and Caribbean Rose, from the Renegades Tent will also compete.

Electra, who did not participate this year’s calypso competition, will perform as a special guest.

Charles said that the Calypso semifinalists- Hunter, Daddy Chess, Benno, Webb, Black Diamond, Checker, Observer, Beetle J, Jamma bee, Chris B, and Jay Dee- will also be showcased and given an opportunity to “tighten up” as they prepare for the grand finals which will take place on March 1st at Carnival City (Pottersville Savannah)

Also in attendance will be the Miss Dominica contestants, Miss Teen contestants and Mother’s Queen contestants.

Shadow Flow, Woksok and Hardliner will provide additional entertainment, according to Charles.

“It promises to be a night of glamour where we invite the ladies to be glamorous,” he said.

Meantime the much anticipated “Clash of the Tents” will take place at the Harlem Plaza next Friday night.

Fifteen calypsonians from the Showdown Mass Camp and the Stardom Calypso Tent will take to the stage to battle each other.

“Calypso fans can look forward to it …. they have been asking for it for several years, it now a reality,” Charles said. “We are now proud to say that everything is now in order.”

this organising of calypso queen makes no sense. Stardom has its own king of the tent and they want a queen of the tent. If they were really serious they should go the route of the king of calypso. You do not just take the women who performed at the preliminaries and quarter finals in a separate competition and just organise a calypso queen competition. You need a separate route for that. More women would have taken part. It is not fair to the other women who did not take part in the calypso king competition. Women stop allowing people to treat you substandard and secondary afterthought.

I dont see the need to have a calypso queen competition because the calypso competition is open to all genders. If you want to be calypso queen do like tasha and beat the men in the competition.

Big up to tasha p de real calypso queen. all the others are irrelevant.

If both Mas camp and Stardom could come together for “Clash of the tents’, why both tents and maybe the Calypso Association pull resources together and organize a truly, impressive calypso queen extravaganza? Many more young female calypsonians would get the opportunity to perform and compete within such a setting. Young talent would be further unearthed.

DNO you need to do sime investigative work and find out why the arguably most popular lady calypsonian this year us not part of that tonight. I have no doubt that the Stardom Tent would have no opposition to her taking part seeing that other female calypsonians from other tents are in there. It would be very interesting to see what yo find out as to the reason for her non-participation.

I will answer you with two words why Leona is not participating ” Song Writer “. Just because is Stardom Tent that organizing the show. How shallow minded are those people. And imagine, those are the persons asking for unity in Calypso and hold Clash of the Tents. Well I not going to that show.

I boycotting any show that Mas Camp involved in. They pressing their own calypsonians. Why are they preventing Leona and others participating in the Calypso Queen Monarch. If Leona wins, that can be a moral boost and raise her confidence ahead of the semi finals. Gosh, we so petty minded

      February 12, 2014

Who say she needs moral boost, and she not lacking any confidence……you dont know her situation so stop judging her. to sing or not to sing is her choice in the end!!

Aren’t you a bit biased? What about lady b? is she a dog? Since is only Leona you want, this shows youi have an agenda.

There is a big difference between a tent organized event and a national event. that’s the whole purpose of having a tent, its to be exclusive.

De only people that are causing division is people like u who a trying your best to get all of Pat’s popular clients to defect?
