More Carnival excitement fills the air as the communities of Mahaut, Marigot and La Plaine prepares to welcome the season with opening parades over the course of the weekend.
The opening parade in Mahaut takes place today (Saturday).
Member of the Mahaut Festival Committee, Harold Sealy, said that the opening of Mas Mahaut 2013 compliments the efforts of the Dominica Festivals Committee and the Carnival Organising committee.
The parade kicks off at 3:00 pm from the Mahaut Market and make its way down towards Zaman Park. Groups such as Flag wavers from Mahaut and Massacre, Pirates, the Friendship Crew, stilt walkers, and winners of the Miss Plus Size and Elegant Show will be on parade. In addition, the contestants expected to participate in the Mahaut Princess Show slated for 9th February, 2013 will be part of the event.
A short ceremony will follow the parade at Zaman Park which will include performances by calypsonians and the WCK band.
Sealey added that Mas Mahaut is expected to be a peaceful celebration and invited everyone to the event.
The road parade to kick off Carnival in Marigot begins at 1:30 pm today (Saturday) to be followed by an offical opening after party.
There will be presentations of 14 contenders of various pageants including including the Atkinson Primary Princess Pageant,The Miss Marigot Ambassadorial Pageant Contenders, Fathers for Children Junior Monarch Competitors and more.
Meanwhile, the La Plaine Youth Sports Academy has taken up the responsibility of bringing carnival celebrations back to the community. The opening of Carnival celebrations is expected to take place on Sunday, January 3 with a road parade.
Bande Mauvais, flag wavers, Morne Jaune Princess Show Pageant contestants and Morne Jaune Junior Monarch contestants are some of the groups expected to be on parade.
The village is expected to come alive with traditional carnival celebrations which include a Miss South East Queen Pageant, a first in that community.
