Derose’s ‘Ba yo Babalen’ is 2013 Road March

It’s official. After much speculation, the Dominica Calypso Association (DCA) has announced the 2013 Road March winner in Dominica.

The title went to Derose with his hit “Ba Yo Babalen.”

The announcement was made on Friday evening following a meeting by the DCA.

DCA’s president, Kelly Williams, said the song has been very popular around the island since it was released by Derose for the Carnival Season.

Derose, whose real name is Dexter Peltier, also captured the Champ of the Camp crown earlier this month.

Last year the title went to Police Officer Murphy “Sye” Jno Jules for his popular number “Burn, Burn, Burn.”

Paying dj’s to play your song on the road is wrong

Why is it that the calypso association are the ones to judge the road march competition. Hmm

I need to know the judging points and the # of times the top 3 songs were played.

I only played in Roseau on Monday. i can’T recall CK, kkk,ASa etc playing that sound. I heard camera and rum and d party so many times that day. i was like ok road march , road march. Then again the calypso association don’t like d bouyon music so they never saw/heard the band i was in . lol

The title of the sound strangely reminds me of Caterah ‘Bye yo bois’, ‘bye yo bois’ from the late 70’s.

Woman and man bound to agree bye yo bois, bye yo bois, that is the thing they want from me, bye yo bois, bye yo bois….

Road March is determined by the song that is played the most on the two days of revelling. Its not about if you like or dislike a song or a calypsonian. Deros song was indeed the song played the most by far, he deserved to win.

Congrats Deros. You really did a good job this year. I felt you should have placed before Bobb and Webb in the finals. You was consistent in both rounds. Bob and a weak second song. Even the Junior monarchs had a better song than his.

Congrats also to Daddy Milla. I think he was closely edged out by Deros for the Road March.

Let us now bun the babalen for the good of the whole of the country. We need prayer in every work of life in Dominic. We need to light babalen for more constructive things in Dominica. God we need you.

All the partying is over and let us all be serious about our beautiful country. Let us all light a babalen for one person in our home, village, for prosperity, health, wealth togetherness, love, patience. It is good to have a good time, but when all is said and done we have to face reality. Our country is crying for unity. Let us put every ill feeling aside. United we stand, divided we fall.

Congrats Derose! You have the right stuff and will continue to go from stride to stride.
It is rather interesting to note that for 2 years steady songs with a GON Emmanuel fire bombing plight get to make the road march.

In all the calypso shows Deros sang, “Bas yo Babalen,” the crowd expressed deep appreciation with the up-tempo, serious social/political commentary. The conclusion is that Dominicans are concerned about the slow, slow, slow pace, almost stalling of the investigations into the 2010 Christmas firebombing of the home of two innocent elders in an attempt to kill them.

The people are listening to the revelations surrounding that henious crime. They have put the pieces together. They know who is trying by all means posssible to block the case ever making it to the courts. Dominicans suspect that “Big Boys” will certainly be implicated.

Last Year’s road march was, “Burn, burn, burn,” by Sye. His song also reminded us of the horrible firebombing.

Is Sicko Secko still renewing his passport in the US? Will he ever return to clear his name as he claimed? Was the help of the FBI or other US agency ever sought?

The fearless Calypsonians, Sye, Deros et al will continue to keep the issues alive. The people are watching, listening and waiting for justice to be done. The criminals must be brought to justice. The calypsonians, with their calypsos, will continue to enlighten us and expose the corruption, firebombings and disrespect for the Laws of our land.

I wonder if the DJs don’t decide who they want to be road march. How do they determine what to play? By request? Or just by crowd response? While I like Deros song, I think that Rum and the Party was a much hotter tune. No offense, but I am just a little confused as to who decide to play what and when.
