First time calypso performer Sherian “Elektra” Letang will replace Hunter who withdrew from the national calypso final on Friday.
The veteran calypsonian has been under pressure after allegations surfaced that he cheated during the recent semi-final by reading lyrics from the palm of his hands.
Speaking to state-owned DBS Radio. President of the Dominica Calypso Association, Kelvin “Ras Kelly” Williams, Elektra comes in because she was next in line based on the judges scores at the semi final. “Next in line was Elektra at number ten, so automatically she comes in because we will not go with nine, we will continue with ten,” he said. “So one drops out, we just bring in the next person, which is Elektra.”
Efforts to contact Elektra on the decision have proven futile so far.
She entered the calypso arena with her composition “A Woman’s Worth,” which has grabbed the attention of many.
Elektra is no stranger to the stage as she was lead vocalist with the popular concert band Fanatik.
Her song pays tribute to the mammoth contribution of women in various areas of life, locally and further afield.
She has also performed at the Stardom Tent.

Hunter you will always be one of the Best.. and that calypso of yours will do even better than if you would have been in the Finals. Mostly everyone will want a copy of that calypso, I know that is one of the songs I want from this year’s competition for my collections.

I am appalled at some of the comments here..We wanted the right and ethical thing to be done by Hunter stepping down which happened, then the next in line with the most points which was Electra gets into the finals automatically yet we have all these negative comments to make? Three. Yes three (3)calypsonians were tied at #9 at the semi- final competition. It is no lie. So if one was chosen out of the three by the judges on that night, two would be still left tied. So how Electra was chosen by the DCA with the excuse that she was next in line. Next in which line?
The judges should have an input in the final selection to replace Hunter, because the other two calypsonians remained tied on the judges list.
It is not a straightforward replacement. There were two (Soul Puss and Electra) who were next in line due to the tie. Something doesn’t add up.
If only two had tied in the Semis and one out of the two was chosen to be in the final, then and only then could it be said that Electra was next in line and so she would automatically be the one to replace Hunter.
How did the DCA come up with that next in line thing? Pleaseeeeeee explain.
When a tie is broken, the other party automatically assumes a rank lower. In the case of a 3-way tie, if this was the case, the other two would fall in 9th & 10th position and this is what would have been presented to the DCA. The DCA takes zero part in judges matters, apart from receiving and sanctioning the results.

Which one of you all that are making all those ignorant and senseless statements were a judge? How do any of you all know who was number 10 at the semi-finals? Since the question is nobody, then who should have the right, the privilege, and the authority to replace hunter with someone else?
Wouldn’t that not be the president of the calypso association? Do we not think that all the judges knew who came out #10 in the semi-finals? Therefore, doesn’t it make sense that he would have to make the right decision, because if he is bias the judges would know and call him out. If this happens, the issue would move from Hunter to the President as being the one that is cheating?
I believe that ghost is a scrupulous man of integrity and would never put his credibility on the line to be trashed upon.

She was chosen to replace Hunter because she came out 10th in the semi-final and was next in line if something had happened to one of the finalists and they could not perform in the finals. It is irrelevant whether she was a joke on the stage, or her song was not good, or she cannot sing. The bottom line is that she was next in line on the judges score card. Go take up issue with the judges and shut you all mouths.

I don’t think she is being battered. Sheriann has some momentum however her ability to stay in key seem to be a problem. The new guy signing illegal calypso king had a great song bit just can’t sing. Not even the studio could hide his cacophonous singing and when he is live it is horrendous. I say this because people cried foul when he was eliminated but the so called pundits refuse to mention that he cannot sing – just like guys like Benji and many of the Gouging singers. No melody at all in the vocals

No surprise there! Let’s be honest: even before the quarter-finals the DA media has been all about Electra. Every calypso story on DNO (save for the ones involved the recent Hunter scandal) has featured Electra. The radios and the commentators as well. So, it doesn’t matter who was next in line, it would have been Electra. I have nothing the woman – I don’t know her from Adam – but on the night of the competition she DID NOT deliver. She has a great song and she has performed it well at the tents but that night she was off. That’s what she should be judged on – her performance THAT night. But, like my favorite DA female calypsonian Sandy says: “In every thing you do some people for you and some against you”. Apparently it doesn’t matter how Electra performed, the media and the judges are for her.

I am from Porssie and love HUNTER but don’t condone wrong. I will support Sheriann Parrillonn whether or not HUNTER or LAPENNE was in the finals. Sherman do have some problems holding the key. It is very obvious particularly when she attempts to highlight certain lines. I do hope she work on this aspect of her delivery.

Are you an idiot? The lyrical and musical composition, coupled with Elektra’s powerful vocals and her unique style of delivery, are what make her a qualified finalist.
STOP HATING, and while you’re at it, maybe do some research on the history of calypso and what makes for a successful song before you jump to the very basic and colloquial excuse of “pull-string”?
Her delivery on Semi-finals night may not have been her strongest, however, it was sufficient to qualify her as a finalist. This is not to take away from Hunter as an artist overall, but Karma has a way of straightening things out.
And I’ll tell you what’s next (since you asked): Elektra is going to show up on Final Stage and give the other finalists a run for their money.

It’s true she faltered on a few notes but she did enough on the night of the semi-final to qualify for the finals.
