Calypsonian Dice, has broken his own record of seven crowns, to win the calypso monarch title for the eighth time.
He dethroned Karessah to capture the title in 2016.
“It feels better to know that after seven times and now going to eight times, the people still love their Dicey and the people are still behind their Dicey,” he said during an interview with the media moments after being crowned.
According to Dice, he needs to continue to, “give the people their enjoyment of Carnival and bring out some real issues…”
He said that he wants this year to be remembered as one of “free speech” and truth.
“We have to remember that we could still give our all, not holding back anything,” he said.
As a means of moving forward, he also called for assistance from, “people who think they know better”.
“Step forward and let’s do something,” he remarked.
“If we are not known in the region that’s not my fault, because I am doing all the work that I can do. So, somebody else needs to play their part,” Dice noted.
Third runner-up position went to Boople.
Second runner-up is De Bobb.
De Webb grabbed the first runner-up position.

I am a supporter of DNO, had we not have DNO, many of us would have had a very difficult time expressing our opinions elsewhere. Thank you DNO. Sometimes I am a baffled as to the time it takes to moderate a comment. It should have been on a first come first serve basis. I can understand why, in my case, I would write a comment, it is surrounded by other comments which were after me but they are moderated. In other words, my comment is , lets say number four, comments number five, six, seven are moderated, but comments number four would still waiting to be moderated. I have observed that on several occasions. This is not a criticism, it is only an observation.

They like DICE- it just all depends on his lyrics. I heard the laborites saying that Dice’s song was gabbage from Pat Aaron, and Webb should have won the crown. If he was exaulting our leader, he would be the best calypsonian ever and they would have asked for him to be crowned from DCA and one from Skerrit. That’s our people. But really and truly, DICE is an amazing talent – and we have to embrace him. He is a legend of his time. He has brought many to listen to calypso – and I can attest to that.

@ SEABEES- Webb’s calypsos are too much at an intellectual standard!!!. And because of this no one sings his calypsos but he. Listen, calypsos are meant to be catchy and easy to sing and understand. If your calypsos are too much at a high standard, it will be lost to the people; on the night of the competition the audience will simply stand and stare at you instead of reacting to your song. Webb’s calypsos have always been of intellectual standards. As Dominicans, we should be encouraged to grow intellectually and not be submissive to the arena of pettiness and the like. We have to appreciate the art of calypso in all its forms. Most of all, as Dominicans, we should aim to rise in our standards. I totally denounce your statement.

The name of the song should have been, three witches in Dominica. Everyone has a certain degree of intelligence. They are not all endowed with the same as common sense. and also education. There are also those who cannot write; cannot write and spell properly as an example. Yet some of these think they know it all and better than others From this generate criticisms and unfair ones.
Therefore, figure out who is smarter than whom. Some do know more than others. Hopefully they are realistic people and that everyone knows whether or not their views are important, necessary and feasible to adopt and implement.

Notice how in Dominica they always keep granting victory to the same people over and over? Once they have their favorites they just keep selecting them over and over and over again. Next year Dice again, Irish kid again, and next election Skerrit again. It can be sports/Calypso/Entertainment Dominicans always displaying favoritism and this is part of the problem in why the country is not functioning properly, . The worse part is when you set their faves on a international or even a regional stage they can’t hold a candle to their competitors, give other people a chance to show and grow their talent man!

Dice is anti government you know and he sings about the current government, yet the majority of his fans are laborites. So they can agree with him in song, but they can’t see what is happening in the country. This logic tickles me all the time.

With songs of this magnitude, I felt you missed out on an opportunity to open the eyes of laborites in your presentation because most of them don’t listen to Q95, so they could get the message. For example, when singing about my Dominica tradehouse.com, you should have had a computer and projector / big screen, showing the website, so all laborites could see the lies and deceptions you were singing about. All those patriots, who have been persistent in their advocacy against that indiscriminate selling of our passports, ordinary, as well as diplomatic, must be vindicated by Dice victory.
Those who foolishly talk of too much politics in calypso, or Dice should be more diverse, blah, blah, simply can’t stand the thorns in their sides. The hot issues are well crafted, backed by sumptuous music. What a combination of a conscious calypso lyricist and a skilled, singer/performer.
Calypso fans of all race, creed, age, , colour religion,, over the years do not have any problems with the songs, so well executed by Dice. They have accepted Dice, as a fearless, warrior. continuously expressing the truth about bad governance, corruption, quick wealth made by a few, while the people’s standard of .living decline.
The calypso encapsulates the secret deals re. companies, individuals, ambassadors of all kinds, operating, selling our passports, millions, but no investments. Sing it.
Very good Dice! It’s Dice again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again! Eight time King and to me, the message in these songs, which is so relevant, makes it your best yet, especially the part with “mothers warn your children don’t do like I did.” My only disappointment is, I expected you to put a line where Melissa posted on her face book page two years ago, that she did not want her then two year old son, to do like his father. I listened to the commentator of dbs mr titre through out the tents and the finals last evening and i think he need to put his political biasness a side. Remove the politics from calypso. I listened to Father Thomas giving commentary on DBS RADIO and his comments were pathetic for a judge, divine intervention eliminated him from the judging panel or none of the calypsonians who sang against the government would have placed and Scrunter, Hunter and Daddy Chess would take the top three places even if they did not sing. For a priest, the man demonstrated so much anger and bias after the results were declared.
Everyone expected the obnoxious comments from Daryl Titre who demonstrated his ignorance of calypso , for the last five weeks, as a badge of honour, but for Eustace Thomas to behave in that way should send a clear message to the DCA that Eustace Thomas should be barred from judging.

I have a feeling we don’t recognize calypsos that are well crafted and delivered by persons who are not big names in calypso. A lot of calypsonians are judged based on their reputation rather than the product they are presenting at the time.
from what I am hearing the crown belong to web.However,it is good that this guy won because he will be needing some cash to pay the court for the numerous charges brought against him recently.as a matter of fact the case is this month.And by the way,i hope he change his ways and be a role model for the GHETTO YOUTS.
My disappointment of the show was, while everyone involved in the show were getting their flowers, it would appear Swining Stars were receiving their thorns. I cannot remember neither the MCs or radio commentators spending any time of the beautiful job Swining Stars was doing. Excellent job Bing and the rest of the team.

Mas Camp has fewer calypsoians….but tye camp is better….at Mas Camp I always burst a sweat…the atmosphere is upbeat and fete-like….compare to boring Stardom with its pack of calypsoians, its silly hold on calypsoians…and all those ridiculous chairs…look at that…with 7 of its calypsioans in the final compared to four from Mas Camp though, Sye’s alliance was more to Stardom until he was expelled, three Mas Campers placed…which tells alot about the camp overally….

I found Dice’s presentation for my Dominicatrade house.com very poorly developed. You singing about a website with no computer or the website’s name in your props…but Dice’s performance outshone all the other hands down….presentation only account for 10 points…a well deserved crown…
From the begin…when I heard Karessah’s two coshoni…I knew he would have been dethroned…I personally found his two songs insultive….I though Observer would have placed….he sang well, though I thought his presentation was poor…I Bople had a better second song, he would have placed higher..

Dice win fine but karessah was so good….his too songs were well written…They were not offensive at all they just had a double meaning …. One where he addressed the situation at the college encouraging young people to get a degree and the other one where he addressed the wrong that is done by rats in the society…. People that hating still not satisfied…karessah not on bail and he has used the artform to perform well academically…he has not blown up your ticket money in smoke…but dice cah step in karessah shoe no time no where the man is a diplomat

My only issue is that SYE should have replaced Bob in the final four. He was massive and really did a fantastic job both in presentation and delivery. However all of them are winners because this year the kaisos were massive.

Not only was his stage performance great but the lyrics and message that was is so timely and relevant. “Find your purpose ” can be sang anywhere in the world including Christians; whereas “My Dominica ” is a warning that all of we should give to anyone aspiring to become a leader. It is sad that caring parents should warn their young children not to emulate a current young leader with his evils but it’s a fact as confirmed this week, when they were I’ll adviced to provoke members of the opposition, by calling them ” Traitors”, wherever they are seen, whether at a funeral or on the plane. So yes mothers warm your children not to take his advice and don’t do like he did. Congrats Dice and Pat Aaron for putting yet another powerful performance together
