Organizers of the Stardom Calypso Tent, 2015 edition, are promising the “greatest” event to date and they say it will feature some 29 Calysponians who aim to impress the audience and go head to head at various competitions.
The Tent will officially open on Saturday 10th January 2014 at the Sisserou Hotel in Castle Comfort at 8:00 pm.
“This year we have 29 Calypsonians, comprising of 95 percent of the big names of calypso in Dominica,” Chairman of the Tent, Norman Letang, said at the media launch at the Calypso House in Bath Estate on Thursday. “There has been a good sign this year in the Tent, because I haven’t had that happen in years; the people who are most satisfied with the Tent so far are the musicians with the exception of one musician. So pass the word around, Stardom is the greatest this year. This year is going to be a mash-up. I already feel proud.”
On the line up are Hunter, Scrunter, Karessa, Daddy Chess, Checker, Observer, Black Diamond, Lugas, Beno, Shadow Flow, Lady Star, Stingray, Intruder, Jama-B, Chris B, Woksok, DBS, Pickey, Hardliner, Comforter, Alisha, Jay-D, Checko, Energizer, Omee, Unwanted, Sour Sour, and two new faces Beo and the Professor who is the three-time Junior Calypso Monarch.
Competitions planned include the Tug of War, the Calypso Royalty Night, the ‘Make or Break’ elimination for the Monarch of the Tent, the Monarch of the Tent and finally the “Man Himself Trophy.”
Man Himself, whose real name is Freddie Mendes, died last year and the competition for the trophy will be held in his honor. It is being sponsored by Arturo’s sports.
There will be a total of six tents and if all goes well there could be a seventh on a Saturday, according to Letang.
Telecommunication Company, Digicel, has sponsored the tent with $25,000, taking its total contribution over the years to $200,000.
According to Mr. Letang, digital has promised to sponsor the tent with a sum of $25,000, also, digital has also promised to give free broadband. If so is the case, why is Come see T.V charging for the shows which are being streamed through the internet. Their should have been a black out on the locals, but because of the free broadband, the diasporians should not be charged.
