Six young ladies from various primary schools in Dominica will vie for the title of Miss Carnival Princess 2016, on January 24.

The pageant organized by the Rotaract Club of Roseau will be staged at the Harlem Plaza.

The competitors are Cadella Charles of the St Martin’s Primary School, Gabrielle Williams of the St Luke’s Primary, Rayne Benjamin of the Convent Preparatory School, Kyliee Karlson of the Kelleb Laurent Primary, Kyanna Etienne of the Grandbay Primary and Danika Bernard of the Goodwill Primary.

They will compete in four segments: Speech, Talent, Evening Wear and Costume round.

“Sponsorship has been kind of difficult for us like any other entity organizing a carnival activity,” Chairperson of the Princess Show Committee, Tyshia Williams said while addressing a Carnival press conference held at the Dominica Festivals Committee (DFC) office on Wednesday. “We are calling on the general public to come on board with us and support our girls.”

According to her, it cost $2,000 to sponsor a contestant and so far two businesses have already come on board to provide sponsorship.

“So far we have one sponsor going towards the young lady from St Joseph Primary. Diamond Girls has confirmed sponsor for her and we also have a sponsor from Green’s Wholesale as well,” Williams revealed. “The others are pending, hopefully, they are approved but we are still looking towards more support from the public.”

She noted that the contestants have been practising regularly and are in great anticipation for the show.

“We have been training with the girls, getting them prepared, we have practises regularly,” she noted. “They are ready, they are all eager for the show is just to get the finances that we need to get the ball rolling.”

She thanked the parents who took on the challenge to allow their children to participate in the event.

“Initially, we explained to them that it was going to be difficult with us for Princess Show Post Erika and they have taken up the challenge and we are very happy for their support,” Williams noted.

She explained that the Rotaract Club is all about giving back to the community and the show is used as an opportunity to give back to the community through the funds that are raised.

The show is scheduled to begin at 3:00 pm and tickets cost $5 for children, $10 for primary school students, $15 for adults and $25 for VIP.

The contestants will be launched at the Calypso House at Bath Estate at 5:00pm tomorrow (January 7).

The reigning Carnival Princess is Ltyleen Julien of the St. Luke’s Primary School.

Six lovely young ladies so attractively adorned!

I am not a big fan of pageants because too often they promote false values and give a distorted view of life. If these girls gain an appreciation of their true worth and get a glimpse of their God given potential they WILL make their parents proud, and their communities a better place!

But who will teach them these things :?:

Who will give them the understanding that they are each one a winner in the eyes of God, and capable of
becoming whatever He wants them to be :?:

Sincerely, Rev. Donald Hill. Evangelist. (Pastoral Counselor Certificate)

More nonsense, something of no value. So many prepubescent girls dress like adults in Dominica with the full approval of their parents. Mothers teach your daughters to respect and place some value on your bodies, then maybe there might be less molestation of our young girls by sick and pervert individuals in our society.
