Lemar “Irish Kid” Irish of the St. John’s Academy in Portsmouth has retained the title of Junior Calypso Monarch.

The show took place at the Harlem Plaza on Thursday evening.

“I feel elated, I don’t even know what to say, I feel so happy,” Irish told reporters shortly after being crowned for the second consecutive year.

He stated that he put a lot of work into his performance.

“I was confident in presenting,” he said.

Irish Kid’s song was entitled “Role Model”.

He is a 3rd Former of the St. John’s Academy and named his dad as his inspiration.

He stated that winning the crown was a gift to his father.

“Yesterday (Wednesday) was his birthday so I told him that was his birthday gift,” the young calypsonian stated.

His song was written by Livingstone Castelle, his uncle.

Tatyana “Taty D” Dangleben, representing the Convent High School (CHS), was the first runner up.

“I put my best foot forward and the judge’s decision was final. I know I did my best, I went up there and I had fun,” she said.

Her song was about knowing friends and who true friends are.

“In this day and age, all we get is betrayal from friends,” she stated.

Dangleben said her song was based on a past experience and was written by her aunt, Nanya Thomas.

Nia “Nicker” Burnette representing the Wesley High School was second runner up, and she could not be reached for her comments since she left right after the show was over.

Nickima “De Empress” Alfred, representing the St Martin Secondary School (SMSS), was the third runner up.

“I feel excited because it is my first time,” she stated. “But I will get them good next year.”

She is a first former of the SMSS and she promised more “expression” in future performances.

Her song was entitled “Living in an i-World” and was written by Ian Jackson.
