DOMFESTA offically launched

Lawrence

The Cultural Division on Wednesday officially launched the annual Dominica Festival of the Creative Arts (DOMFESTA) celebrations in Dominica.

Activities during the festival include a Creole Spelling Bee Competition for Primary Schools, a Creole Song Contest, plays by local artistes, art exhibitions and an Antiguan movie as a special feature, according to Chief Cultural Officer Raymond Lawrence.

Lawrence hopes the festival will foster appreciation for the arts on the island. “Through DOMFESTA we will continue building the appreciation for arts and culture in Dominica. We anticipate our theme this year, ‘Through Culture We Build a Progressive and Peaceful Society,’ will help to inspire the population to use the arts and culture as a vehicle to build peace and unity in Dominica and also create opportunities for greater development. We hope too that DOMFESTA will help strengthen our national identity as a people and as a nation,” he said.

DBS radio, Alliance Francaise, Digicel, Ross Univesity and Petrocaribe are among the major sponsors of the event.

DOMFESTA is an annual event celebrating Dominica’s arts and culture. It is expected to run from April 27 to June 1.
