Congratulations to all the Awardees both Golden Drum and Special recognition.
In regards the process for nomination, and why Athie has not been, I guess he has not been involved in steel pan and music for enough years, neither is Franklyn Moses, nor Noreen Joseph, these names have been synonymous with the aspects of our culture for as long as I have been growing up in Dominica, yet they are not recognised, but have been nominated. Just a though for discussion.

Ian Jackson has been a steady voice in the promotion of culture in Dominica, and this recognition is well deserved.

My take, I agree. Are you sure? Athie has really been involved in Pan for a very long time. I wonder why.

He has been described as “one of the country’s respected resident steelpan performers.” How does the nomination process work? It would be useful to see a list of all the GD recipients over the years at a glance.

Over the years awards have been given for steelpan and not once has the name Athie Martin come up.

The man has been in the pan movement since his teenage years. He has trained, and continues to train, several pan groups and individuals.

Better to give the man his flowers while he is alive, rather than wait posthumously.

Politics really screwing up this country.

While I do not object the claim that you are making on behalf of Mr. Martin, I cannot sit back idly and not state the facts, i personally know of past recipients who do not support the Government. None the less, i firmly beleive that Mr. Matin deserves an award for his tremendous efforts towards maintaining the steel pan culture, also, Mr. Moses for comedy, he is second to none in Dominica, he is also a walking dictionary. I am optimistic that they will be recognized soon.
