Merlyjah Benjamin of Grand Bay has copped the 2014 Miss Wob Dwiyet title.
Benjamin outperformed five other competitors at a pageant held at the Old Mill Cultural Centre on Thursday night.
She also received the award for Best Creole Spectacular Wear.
Shortly after her win she told the media that preparation for the pageant was difficult however, “All the hard work paid off.”
“Tonight I just relaxed and enjoyed myself,” she said.
The new Miss Wob Dwiyet is looking forward to embracing the youth and to help them in positive activities
Jeannel David, who represented Massacre, secured the first runner-up spot and received the award for Best Talent, while Desra Cuffy secured the second runner-up position grabbing the award for Best in Wob.
Other contestants were; Tammika Tavernier from Soufriere representing the south west, Sherine Dubois from Penville representing the north, Latoya Anthony from Woodford Hill representing the north east, and Chadiska Pascal from Bataca representing the east.
The pageant featured performances by the Swingin’ Stars, Michele Henderson, Sonia Lloyd, Sixth Form Sisserou Singers, Delices Cultural Group, Dana Peltier, Castle Bruce Secondary School Drumming ensemble, Paix Bouche Cultural Group, and Petite Savanne Jing Ping Band.
The pageant was hosted by Dominica’s Lady of Song , Ophelia Olivacce Marie and President of the National Youth Council, Jahisiah Benoit.
It was organized by the National Cultural Council and the Cultural Division.
Last year’s winner was Tasia Floissac from Atkinson.

Allyu too wicked in dat place……..Based on the response it is clear patrons were just not satisfied with the judging results… it was poor…….Grandbay didnt win on the night, the crown was given too her……

With so many insults and putting down.None of the dissatisfied people cannot make an alternate comment or to see the show moving to higher heights.They include politics,knocking down the host and co-host when the ladies did their best .Our people are forgetting how to encourage people to do better.Where are we heading?
Congrats Miss Benjamin.Grandbay is famous for its cultural heritage. Too many of us concentrate on the negative vibes.Miss .Benjamin hard work has paid off.Where are the support for this young lady.She became an ambassador for Dominica last night .So many negative comment are surfacing DON.The comment for this young lady should have double any regular comments.Are we giving the young people the encouragement they deserve?Dominicans if we want Dominica TO MOVE FORWARD WE MUST CHANGE OUR WAYS.
Year after year you have the same injustices being done to young ladies who volunteer their time and effort to make a show only to be cheated by unscrupulous judges…..
Without a doubt, there is one particular judge who is at that table year in year out and who people knows has her allegiance to GrandBay….This is a fact…

A costume made out of 80% pure raw materials with 20% flour bags… to show off our ROOTS! (African Culture) let them call it halloween costume as much as they want, but they would never be able to do a better job, rather than rant and chant by bursting unnecessary bubbles behind a computer.

Very poorly organized…worst show ever,and you can’t have organizers of the show helping specific contestants….that is cheating…very very unprofessional.

She did not deserve best spectacular wear…i would have given her best talent….the spectacular wear was same old same old,she performed in it well but it was not creative enough.

VOLEH… Desra and the girl from Penville did wayyy better than her… U cannot be coordinating a show and chaperoning underneath… But they planned their thing with d big pot of smoke or whatever day ‘wanjay’ in it and her incense on her head.. Nonsense… The girl brought Halibut on stage and have him his flowers while he is alive.. That could at least get points… To be honest after Nadege went up for Grandbay everything after she won was theft.. Nut God knows best, im not sayin she didn’t do good but they did better than her.. That show needed to be judged again.

however the penville girl stayed too long the music stopped when she was portraying her wob.. Desra deserved that crown. every year you see the same mess and this is twice in a row that La PLaine has been put behind in a show.
Was a very lackluster show…..the host and hostess were tres boring and did not for the show. And if anything the girl from Massacre should have won….but the judges decision is final.
