The Performing Arts Workshop is announcing that registration for the Ms. Ti Matador 2013 competition is now opened.
The show is expected to take place in October during the independence season.
Registration is opened to female students from any primary school on the island between the ages of 8 and 11.
One of the organizers, Regina Walsh, said the event is being held to promote culture in the schools.
She said the competitors will be judged in four categories: promotional speech, talent, wob dwiyet and spectular wear.
Promotional speeches are expected to be done in Creole or Cocoy, if the student is from the Marigot area.
Due to circumstances beyond the organizers’ control the show was not held in 2012 but Walsh is promising a great show this year.
“The show is in its tenth year and we want to make it grand,” she said. “That is why we are starting early in terms of registration and getting it out there for schools to register students who are interested in the show and to get sponsors.”
Deadline for registration is May 15th.
Interested persons and schools are asked to contact Regina Walsh at 614-2020 or Jacinta David 265-6408 for registration forms.
Well, well, Dominica got beauty congratulations to all of you.
Organizers take note – The young girls should not be competing in Wob Dwiyet – their costume is the Jupe
Great show as well!
It is expensive but as far as I know, the organizers have given participating schools financial support of 700.00 from sponsorship received for the show. The winner receives 500.00 cash the other participants have received cash prizes as well. But it is a good show for the children to take part in. I like it more than the adult show.
This is very expensive for the small schools to undertake. While the organizers may get some sponsorship, the school gets nothing in return. I suggest that at least a $500.00 can be given to defray the cost of participation. I support my culture 100%.
i love the picture
It really nice for true.
I think that having the promotional speech in creole is a bit much.
