Dominica made its mark at the 12th edition of CARIFESTA when songstress Ophelia performed before an appreciative audience on August 24 at the Cine Triomphe.
The audience obviously enjoyed Ophelia’s performances, singing along enthusiastically with the entertainer, even to songs they were hearing for the first time. The crowd went wild when Ophelia left the stage and moved through the audience, asking them to “Dingolay”. Many even followed her through the isle, dancing, waving and applauding as she sang.
Ophelia performed for 45 minutes and one the Carifesta organisers told Chief Cultural Officer and head of the Dominica delegation, Jacinta David, “People love her….whoever comes in to perform after her gonna have to come good”.
Other performances that night included a comedy act from Haiti, steel band presentation from Antigua and Barbuda, a dance from Belize and poetry recital from Anguilla. The main performance was delivered by the National Dance Theatre Company and Raging Fyah of Jamaica
Ophelia was also expected to perform last night which has been assigned Dominica’s Country Night.
CARIFESTA XII, a major showcase of Caribbean culture and artistic talents, was launched in Haiti last Friday.
I wish i could sing like Ophelia..
Only in Dominica we find de lady boring….when O performing people go and buy drinks….a prophet is never honoured in his land.
“aisle”..not isle…fix it.
Ophelia has no personality of an artist, she sings too much like she’s crying, can’t dance and evenhold the mic like a true artist! As for that dingole song, what a stupid song!
Queen Ophie is the queen on the pack. She is indeed a Caribbean diva. She got the flick as the modern saying goes.
How I love Ophie our Lady of song. She is a faithful Christian as well; using her God given talent to magnify his name not make patrons happy.
Good news for Dominica
A true patriot you are with humility and grace. You don’t ask for praises, you earn praises. Your exemplary performance will put the political skeptics and haters back in their corner.
Ophelia always going Carifesta. I find Ophelia long passed that level. She should allow an upcoming artist to go that show which is held every four years. Ophelia has made it and is at the twilight of her career so she has nothing to prove. Carifesta is generally for good artist you need a big push.
Good for Ophelia. I wonder who the special Carifesta correspondent would be if it is not Mark Marie? Well done all the same, good to see the golden oldies still have it in them.
PS. The lack- and timely editing of DNO blogs is worrying. There appears to be no activity at all over the weekends, distorting the comments ratings. Any comments?
