Dominica observes Heritage Day today as part of the ongoing Independence celebrations.
Every year the event is held in a different village on the island.
This year Warner has been chosen as the venue for the observance.
Heritage Day celebrates the host village’s uniqueness, the people and features which make that village what it is.
The celebration also includes the presentation of awards to outstanding individuals of that community.
Jefferson Warrington, Gerard Simon, Elu Alexander and Henry Alexander will receive awards for their cultural contributions to Warner.
Henry Alexander will receive the Cultural Elder Award.
Community service awards will go to Karen Laford, Harris Registe, Eudelia Steveson, Joseph Matthias Bruno and Vanessa Julien.
The event begins with a church service to be followed by a cultural gala, exhibitions and sweet potato festival.
