Miss Dominica and Miss Caribbean World, Nadira Lando, earned yet another title when she was crowned Miss Jaycees in Antigua on Friday night.
She also captured the Best Modeling and Miss Photogenic categories.
First runner up was Miss St. Kitts and Miss St. Lucia walked away with the second runner up position.

Nadira won the best evening wear and best interview segments . Why is it we only have videos of the segments she did not win?. Even then She looks good in the videos shown…It goes to show .
The Judges decision is FINAL! Congrats! Ms Nadira. You will not be the first nor the last that it is alleged “that you were cheated for”. Hold your head up high and your crown even higher.
I cannot understand why we want to beat up on one of our own for showcasing what is genuinely OURS. What should Nadira have done for her talent … try to sing or play on an instrument something by some American “star” to show how well we can be mimicking monkeys? Our Nadira CREATED something out of what is OURS, and presented it in such a manner that brought her message home. This to me is putting our stamp of identity on something and telling the world that we are worth more than the American garbage that we are willing to waste so much money to see on our TV. I have lived long enough to watch our very own CADENCE MUSIC cannibalized and mutated to suit a foreign audience. Today cadence is an endangered species. Look at how our Carnival has been destroyed because we are trying so desperately to transform it into a parade of performing monkeys for the amusement of our ‘massa’ the ‘visitor’. Give me back the days of real ole mas, when people genuinely went out on the streets to celebrate with no holds barred! Strangely enough, the ‘visitor’ actually wants to see the real thing … not the artificial show put up just for the occasion. The same way the American or Frenchman or whoever will be more impressed with our own creation of “talent” rather than a some wanna-be Celine Dion or Fredrika Stahl or the like. And who says poetry, drama and oration are not artistic talent! Come on … let us grow up, see beyond our myopic vision and see the bigger picture. Peace!

It seems that some people can’t get over the fact the a Kalinago beauty beat them bad and came on top. She was good in the local show, she was better in Caribbean World and she was the best in Jaycees.

PS. Caribbean people learnt a lot from your talent. The story had to be told, and it could not have been told in a better place, by a better presenter, to a better audience – the Caribbean people were watching.

Can I say dno, I never notice any comments of mine published because they are not in agreement with the majority. I have my own brain with the capacity to think for myself so sorry if my comments are not what you want to hear but objective opinion? guess it doesnt apply here. This girl did not deserve the crown in my opinion. I guess everyone is jumping on the kalinago band wagon so she can do no wrong. that talent was awful. Talking is not being talented; especially giving mapuis which it sounded like to me. Antigua you should be ashamed of such blatant cheating

I just listened to what was supposed to be a talent and I fully agree with “honest” opinion, this was not a talent but a speech . Speaking is not talent.It sounded like she was getting back at everyone for the way her ancestors were treated.Again this is no talent , that was absolutely nothing more but a speech which wasn’t even delivered with poise and grace.
Your comments also shows how we think about literary arts. We think that singing or dancing or playing something are the only talents and maybe that’s what we capable of recognizing. But being able to bring out your message in speech fluently with proper articulation and diction, with the right emphasis and energy , that will make one listening to you ,want to hear what you have to say is a rare talent in the region….A lot of Caribbean people don’t have the talent to bring out their message in speech, (They dont have the talent)!!

Nadira is gorgeous in the face we all know that, but she needs to work on her stomach and toning her body. It looks like she got a little love handle coming in. If the band wasn’t placed across her stomach you’d notice the size of her tummy even more. Nothing a little treadmill, squats and other healthy excercise routine can’t fix. Secondly she can do a bunch of “skipping” jump rope routines to tone her face. Its a little puffy. I’m not sure about the talent section here but if talking for 15 mins or so is talent then gosh that show has very low standards or maybe those other ladies were average. But everyone have different levels of whats great and what’s not.

I was listening to the show via an Antigua radio station on line and got so pisted off wen i heard the commentator saying “Miss Dominica didn’t have a talent, she had a history listen on the Caribs.” I could have shaken this man through the airwaves. Im in total agree ment with you, the Anitgua radio station were not very nice with their commentry but yet again…Dominica prevailed.They went as far as saying that the young lady had knocked knees, whereas another female commentator had to inform him that through history the Dominican ladies are trained to walked in manner which gives poise, elegance and grace to the stage. Im happy that Nadira made him put his foot in his mouth and took back his words. Once again Congratulations Miiss Lando!!!
I’m sorry. But I have to agree with what the commentators said. And NO, I am not Antiguan. But she didn’t really have a talent. Anyone can go on stage and recite a poem, a monologue, a story or whatever. Everyone can speak naturally. WE speak every day. we give stories every day. So i guess we all are gifted with that talent.
She should not have even be in the top 5 as far as I am concerned after looking at all of the videos of the other contestants. And furthermore out of the top three…Miss St. Kitts had to be winner considering she answered her question waay better than Miss. Dominica. And No I am not a Kittian either. Just an avid pageant lover.
Yes, we can all give stories and talk, but that doesn’t mean we all do it well. I play football, but I don’t play it well. I would never be in the same category as Wayne Rooney or Didier Drogba. Why? Because they can play a sport, that everyone can play, way better than the majority of us.
