Tyria really rocked this pageant. She was well represented. She was so confident and she showed the skinny girls that big girls also rock. It’s not about size but how you represent and your talent. Good job Tyria. The only thing though, the pink dress had the best dress. She should have been awarded for that.

Oh before I forget, can someone tell Vanessa to calm down. Vanessa keeps acting like the show is hers . She should not be running up on the stage during the show. There’s something called back stage and signals. “No need to run up on the stage during the show Vanessa, just relax”.

I enjoyed the show otherwise. I really love my ppl no matter what.

This look to much as carnival the materials were not the correct ones regardless it they are flowered they are to busy, we have to be careful how we go about displaying our Cultural wear for the World to see the Head piece must be MADRAS and it have to be a Tete Case.
The show didn’t move me at all it was of vey poor standard…

this is a group from wesley this is not affiliated with the Dominica association in Canada. its an embarrassment how they represent our country with any color cloth and headpiece shame, personally i wont advertise this unless its from the only approve and recognize organization the Dominica association.

So good to see my daughter Shani as the 1st runner up for such a respected show. Just think this is the first time for such an occasion. l bet you she will win the next one. But l must give it to all the girls representing D/ca with such pride and grace. Congratulations to all. They all won in the hearts of all Dominicans.

    Are the contestants not beautiful?
    Beautiful costumes, representing Dominica’s culture.
I would not be too picky about the head dress/wear. Only D/cans and those who are familiar with it would know. Let us not make an issue out of it.

Hello!!!! What’s your point? They are supposed to be promoting our culture in its entirety not only to Dominicans but to to non-Dominicans as well.

      • The Facts
        October 7, 2014

Do non-D/cans know the difference, especially those who are not familiar with the Wob Dwiyet? I do think your criticism has an ulterior motive and I know exactly what it is. Silence is golden.

I wonder who the organisers are? Is it the CDOA or the imposters. People please be careful who you dealing with. There is only one organisation representing Dominica in Ontario Canada. Not the fringe one who is just making a papyshow for the benefit of their own pockets. Let them show their track record. This si a splinter group and they must be stopped.

Hmmm… I hope the sponsors get the exposure they were hoping for – given the low attendance. Not sure what kind of business returns could be generated from the attendees. What are the rates for a night stay at Jungle Bay and Rosalie Bay again? Just saying….

    • October 3, 2014

It’s true that our numbers were down this year but I would not consider three hundred and twenty people a low attendance, our sponsors are also recognized year round on our web-site and the programs are distributed to various salons and travel agengies.

      • What??/
        October 5, 2014

Lorraine are you for real, 300 people??? you must not be talking about the same show that i attended because from what i saw there was about 120.. so you must be talking about a different show..

      • Speak Easy
        October 6, 2014

Really? I wonder how many people booked a trip to DA from those travel agencies &/or hair salons & if so, how many booked even a one-night stay at Jungle Bay or Rosalie Bay? How many visitors went to your website?

Great job, however when you wearing the wob please wear the proper head pieces the dress is not complete, especially in a completition.

      October 3, 2014

I am thinking the same. Congratulations to the organisers, but there is room for some training in the wearing of the wob. The head piece must be done properly, the dress must be worn properly. The headpiece should be done in madras. Please do not take the critic badly its just to improvement because this is how we loose the culture, when bits and pieces are left out.
The dress could be flowery but the head piece has to be done in madras and it has to be a tete case’

        October 14, 2014

he he he, I understand ur point. Tete case, true that. I like the new designs but really it is kind of taking away the appearance of the wob dyiet.

I agree totally. This was brought to the attention of the organizers last year so it is disappointing to see that they have chosen to ignore this important fact again. Please, if you are going to profile our beautiful Wob Dwiyet, get it right! Do your research and come better than that! You should not take such liberty with our tradition like that, especially when you claim to be promoting our culture. By the way, what’s with the strip Wob? Nice material but not at all suited for our beloved Wob Dwiyet. Please go back to your drawing boards – ask people like Marvlyn – she will set you on the right path.

        October 3, 2014

        I love these comments!

Minor things like that shouldn’t be taken for granted at all! These wob dwiyets are supposed to be showcasing the culture and should be taken VERY SERIOUSLY! Tete Casse is not just a head piece and it MUST be in madrass!!

      • My take
        October 3, 2014

I am all for the promotion of our Dominican culture but please pay attention to the head piece and the petticoat that are worn with the Wob Dwiyet. They both have to be authentic, the ones that I see pictured above have me grimacing.

Organizers please make contact with Marvlyn Laronde, Aileen Burton, Delia Cuffy-Weekes,and Claudette Casimir. Any one of those ladies would be only too happy to share their expertise with you.

I agree completely. But then again, one of the organizer who is apparently a designer, takes pride in taking these liberties with the national dress

Congrats! One of the prizes should be a round trip ticket to come home for the Independence season and attend the different activities…that would be nice!

    • October 3, 2014

The winner gets a return trip to Dominica but she usually takes it the following year since she has to arrange for time off from her work, the past winners also got return trips to Dominica.

        October 3, 2014

She better take that round trip to Dominica because from what I am hearing the show did not generate a profit..MWDC is going down, down.. Ha ha..

the winner better take her trip as soon as she can. from my observation i don’t think a profit was made from the low attendance.

MWDC is going Down sooner than latter. These people too wicked.
