SEPTEMBER 29TH-Daily Update from Dominica

  • There is currently a three-pronged approach with regards to clearing up roadways: a.creating access b. road clearing works c.  community clean-up.
  • Residents are asked to only drive into the city when absolutely necessary. There should be no “sightseeing.”
  • Public Works Department is prioritizing creating access in and out of  the various communities including : farm roads, roads to and from Roseau and bridge clearing.
  • Debris-cleaning community-based work program is being developed for future implementation
  • The following communities are still inaccessible while heavy equipment is currently being utilized to clear these roads: Grand Bay, Soufriere to Scotts Head-heavy equipment in use, Wotten Waven-plans to install bailey bridge for access, Morne Prosper-smaller machinery employed as of yesterday, Belle Vue-shortage of fuel has inhibited progress.
  • The following bridges have been restored: Rosalie Bridge- travel with care, Sari Sari Bridge in La Plaine-travel with care, Boetica Bridge- 5 tonne limit.
  • The following bridges were destroyed and are still out of commission: bridge near Spider’s Bar, bridge near Kubuli factory in Loubiere, bridge in Castle Comfort near Court’s, bridge near Fond Baron, bridge near Wotten Waven.
  • Driving routes to avoid:  Roseau to Newtown, Roseau area,  Canefield to Roseau, Loubiere to Grand Bay.

    Can you possibly help me find the status of 2. Friends who arrived in Dominica Sat before the hurricane. Went to hold funeral of dad. Derrick and Nathalie Lestrade. Any info re safety or . . Thank you very much! hilda

    DNO I thank you for all these updates and good to hear that slowly we are making some progress. The road ahead is not going to be easy but with God on our side we shall make it.

    As I reflect on the blow dealt to us by Maria, I cannot help but think of how we can together, as one people, build a better and stronger DA for all of us. It is no secrete that Dominica was going in the wrong direction and because of the goodness of God, their is no way he would allow us to continue in the way we were heading. No way He would allow us to bless wrong and condemn evil for long! All of last week I’ve been wondering why did Maria destroy so many of our churches; but I was reminded of 1 Peter 4:1 (KJV) “For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God:” Also, why Jesus drove out the money changers from the temple in Matt. 21:12-13 “My house shall be called the house of prayer; but ye have made it a den of thieves.” I hear Maria saying its time to put come together as a…

    Concerned that as the detail of devastation comes to light that the outlook for the. General population is dire.
    Community programme for clearing can only succeed with professional supervision.We no longer have the Public Works who could have taken this task over.With out this it will be a charade.
