Discover Dominica Authority appoints another agency to assist in its marketing program

Piper said LMA is a bona fide agency that represented Grenada for about 12 years

Discover Dominica Authority (DDA) has announced the appointment of LMA Communications in Canada as its full official representation agency in that country.

Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the DDA, Colin Piper made that announcement during an interview with Dominica News Online (DNO) on Tuesday.

According to him earlier this year the DDA held a comprehensive tender to evaluate its representation in its source markets which include; USA, Canada, Germany, United Kingdom and France. The process concluded with the awarding of contract to firms effective July 1.

“The significance of LMA in Canada is that it is our first official representation,” he said. “LMA is a bonafide agency having represented Grenada for about 12 years in the past and so they are familiar with representing Caribbean destinations,” he said.

Piper continued, “We also appointed a new US Agency called Myriad, we also appointed a new French Agency called Agence TQC and we maintained representation in the UK and we maintained representation in the German speaking markets…”

Piper said the DDA followed that up with a tourism summit in Dominica which took place during the 24th to 28th of July.

“All these reps were down to keep their first case of emersion and meet members of the DDA staff, meet with the Minister, meet with stakeholders and to get a sense as to what their 90 day plan should be and what their full year marketing plan should be for Dominica,” he stated.

Piper indicated that the DDA hopes that expertise can all go well for Dominica.

“As you know Dominica is a niche product offering and what we want to do first and foremost is to increase the awareness of the destination Dominica in the Canadian market, and in the greater Toronto area in particular, so that we can get more stay over visitor arrivals from Canada,” he noted.

Furthermore he said, “Currently we have about 3000 visitors, we have given them a goal to try to reach 3500 by the end of 2017.”

Piper added, “Our hope is that the strategies that they suggest to us and the budget that we have approved will allow are to generate those results.”

  1. Put this in your pipe Piper, and smoke it the next time you go to Nevis to solicit help with air transportation in and out of Dominica. I post such to expose the stupidity of people like you, members of Skerrit’s circus!

BASSETERRE, St Kitts (SKNIS) — Proposals are being considered by the federal Cabinet to construct a bridge to connect St Kitts and Nevis, which would bring greater ease of travel between the twin-islands.

At a recent town hall meeting, minister of public infrastructure, Ian ‘Patches’ Liburd, announced that there are two proposals awaiting consideration by the Cabinet, which could see the much talked about bridge come to fruition.

“I commit to you that as the minister of public infrastructure that I will drive that [initiative],” he said, to much applause from the audience. “And I know I have the full support of the entire Cabinet and the minister of finance [Prime Minister Dr Timothy Harris

  2. Suck this in you belly Piper; the next time you are going to Nevis to get Nevis to help you get more flights in and out of Dominica!(FE-DT).

BASSETERRE, St Kitts — United Airlines plans to expand its Saturday service between the airline’s New York/Newark gateway airport, Liberty International Airport (EWR) and St Kitts (SKB). United will recommence service on November 19, 2016, and will fly throughout the winter, summer and fall in 2017.

“I am very pleased that we will be receiving additional flights from United Airlines,” said Lindsay Grant, minister of tourism, international trade, industry and commerce. “The extension of United’s service will significantly increase capacity into the Federation from the New York metro area, a primary market for visitors to St Kitts.”

United will operate 50 percent more flights between EWR and SKB and will begin its winter season early this year on November 19. United will operate Saturday-only service between EWR and SKB:

United will operate 50 percent more flights between EWR and SKB and will begin its winter season early this year on November 19. United will operate Saturday-only service between EWR and SKB:

United will continue to utilize a 737-800 aircraft with capacity ranging from 154 to 166 seats for these flights. These flights will complement existing non-stop airlift into St Kitts from North America, providing more convenient options for travel to St Kitts.

In case you have forgotten Nevis is a dependency of St. Kitts. Be informed that there is an International Airport in St. Kitts, and the municipal Airport in Nevis is a large as what you have at Melville Hall, it does not accommodate international flights, St. Kitts takes care of that.

Nevis is just a few miles away; so you need to stop talking “sot” you make no sense!

Tourism under the leadership of Colin is a no no….When Tourism was in bloom that’s when Yvor Nassief came and create his mess. When we had persons like Sharon Pascal, Sobers Esprit, and the many others who would go the extra mile to see ALL SHALL EAT in the Tourism Industry, today is some shall eat. Go to the financial center the officers are paid better with so much to do, yet still you hear so little about the development of tourism in Dominica. Hair Braiders crying, taxi drivers screaming, vendors going crazy……why Yvor Why

You could ask LIAT about that.

Piper work on internal and inter regional tourism to start before you spread your wings further. Like it was said we do have a niche product but first and foremost tourist needs direct flight and reliable airlines. Not that fake list. Whenever I speak about my country people refer to the fact they have to take two planes. Colin think harder

    • Tell the Facts
      August 21, 2016

It is disappointing that two planes must be taken to arrive in Dominica. All of us have done that.
What is worst is that LIAT has this regulation that passengers to Dominica must overnight at their cost. This is a deterrence for traveling to Dominica.
Dominica is really getting a raw deal from LIAT. This obviously decreases tourism.

To be honest, I still don’t really understand why we have both the DDA and an organisationally separate Ministry of Tourism.

It would be nice for DNO to research and find out how much was actually spent in the last financial year for marketing of the country and compare that to the amount spent on marketing of the citizen by investment program, as well as the marketing of agricultural produce by DEXIA

Leave you have already served your purpose you have reached your capacity and there is nothing left of it. Retire…. You all are a shame to society and Dominica’s culture and artistic environment.. all these companies will do is eat the monies of the DDA…..these agencies are clearly aware of the corruption which is hampering any progress in dominica…

dominica has two inadequate airports, thus travelers will rather go islands like St.Lucia, Antigua and St.Kitts to name a few as they have supporting elements for travelers.

But Dominica is noted for thinking small, wasting over 30million at Melville Hall in a cozy shed they claim to be a airport…that’s separates the thinkers from the brainless humans which reside in the majority in dominica…

dominica will continue to be proud in being the poorest and slowest economy, due to them refusing to utilized their God given heads…smh…

They should deliver within a certain time. Otherwise they should be relieved of their contract. I hope this is the understanding, on the premise they deliver or else.
Visitors to Dominica will fist conduct an overall research. Two of the hindrances are lack of an international airport, LIAT’s poor service and having to overnight. The latter could deter visitors from going to Dominica. I wish something could be done about that.
I heard there was a riot at the Barbados airport last week Wednesday due to LIAT’s service. I did not hear the full story. I hope to read it in the Toronto Caribbean papers this week, if printed. I am surprised that DNO did not post it or did not hear of it.

Piper and Government have to go , because with all the many talents we have in Dominica I see no reason why jobs have to be given to out siders instead of our Dominicans who want to work.. Dominicans look their is a pattern and it’s time you have to speak out against it , we will never be able to look our children in their faces and explain why we didn’t protect what should be there future, this practice have to stop .

The head of this agency should retire he has not served Dominica well . This man is in this position for over ten years and this agency has been a failure . He must be favored servant

  15. You full of crap; you Piper can appoint even the Angels of Haven to do whatever, you are not going to see not one single person visiting Dominica because of all of your so called appointments.

When you talk about appointment, you need to say how much you are paying these appointees or firms to represent you Piper. Besides Piper, you are just talking nonsense, everybody knows without massive advertisement nothing happens, because you are running off you mouth does not make what comes out of it true.

Without an International Airport in Dominica Piper, you had better hold you peace, because you know you are lying through you teeth!

Do you remember you told us on DNO that you went to Nevis to get assistance in getting more flights to Dominica, and out of Dominica; when we know Nevis is a dependency of St. Kitts, with no Airline originating on Nevis, Nevis worst off than Dominica; are you ignorant or you just like been a clown?

Representing you with what? You need to shut up!
