In front of a crowd of over 2000, including about 900 Dominicans, Dominica’s national football team lost by one goal to Guadeloupe in a football match played at the at the Abymes Stadium in Guadeloupe on Saturday night.
According to Guadeloupe resident, Clayton Florent, the “GWADA BOYS” beat the “NATURE BOYS”2-1 “much to the dismay” of the Guadeloupe spectators “who thought that Dominica played better.”
Captain of the Dominica team Clemson Prince said after the match, “I was quite impressed with my team. We played very well in the first half. We got our chances but did not capitalize on them, but I am satisfied with the way my team played.”
i tried playing fighting games, but I always end up breaking my controller while doing so. I’ll stick to easy games.
I bet half of the Guadeloupe side is from Dominica.
Football is a perfect illustration of Dominica’s loss of talent.
DNO i must admit the headline seem to be promoting mediocrity. Should we be contented just becsuse we lodt “narrowly “. It sound like we were expecting a washout defeat from Guadeloupe.
This is disturbing to me
i know at least 2 players on the Guadeloupe team whose parents are Dominican
if you knew dominicas football history in Guadeloupe you would reflect on the headlines differently, this is country that has beaten dominica at least a dozen goals in the past, yep you can ask the question to long time players of the game in dominica,i to am astonished at the improvements
Skeritt was boasting how the crowd at Soufierre attending the DLP rally on Sunday was the biggest to assemble in Soufierre. As usually, it was a rally to promote Lennox Linton. Not one mention was made either him, Justina, Minister of Sports, or Robbie, Minister of Tourism, as regards the Dominica Football Team which was playing football and promoting Dominica in Guadeloupe. We hear a lot about their interest in Sports, but, the Chinese were given a piece of land to reside while in Dominica building a long awaited hospital, instead of the young people of Roseau, who on occasions, used that same piece of land to practice football. If Mr. Linton had left Higgs Adams to fight his battle alone in Soufierre and travel to Guadeloupe with the football team, ah, Skeritt would never stop talking about that, even after that particular game was forgotten by all Dominicans.
While i agree that the team suffered a LOSS as the article said but we have to agree that Dominica has come a long way comparing to the thrashings we use to suffer however i am not surprised at the negative comments, from what i gather these are the same persons who give Dominica a bad name no matter what!
Are we even really good at football? If a scout for say MAN U came to DA would they really get a potential player?
Narrowly lose my football!!! When was the last time that Dominica defeated Guadeloupe. When we accept mediocrity a loss even feels good!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
A crowd of over 2000??? This tells a story,if the number is correct!
Narrowly loses my foot.A loss is a loss no matter by how many. The team just isn’t good enough.
If I losed to a team called “Gwada boys” I’d quit football ASAP. Then again Dominican Football team names aren’t creative either.
You either win or you lose. You can call it narrowly if you like but is like death or winning the lottery. There is no narrow in it, it is black and white. We lost, simple. Hope we can improve and be successful some time internationally.
Football isn’t simply a ‘black or white’ sport. Its common for teams to dominate games just to lose by the odd counterattack goal. It doesn’t mean they are weaker than their opponents things like bad luck, goalkeeper in form, not getting ref decisions, and cheating all factor in.
if the team put on a good showing, and didn’t disgrace their uniform then whats the prob? At this level winning is of low significance- its better to put in a good team performance, and if 1 or 2 players impress then hopefully they get pro contracts which could open the door for others. Put us on the map. There is no need to be in heat over winning, thats for professionals and people who put money on the game. Ultimately at this low levels, its more for local entertainment nad player exposure and should be treated as such.
There is no problem garcon but if I go and play a soccer match I go there to win and not narrowly lose. Football is not a game of political correctness my boy. If Skerrit goes to fight an election he goes there to win, by whatever means, by hook or by crook. I support Dominica team but a loss is a loss and better luck next time. At least in football you can have draw!
You play to win ,period. If we dont win we cant go to the dance. I am thinking that we have been underperforming in so many areas of significance. Maybe if we just focus on insuring that our footballers are able compete and win on the big stage then we can create an international buz that would intern stimulate tourism. I am saying why not introduce a caretaker program like the NEP that would insure that our sports men who represent the nation can focus strictly on their crafted while earning a salary. This government gave the bishol $5000000, crazy coconut anogher $500000, buy vote scheme etc.b yet our national athletes struggle so much that when a a scouting report is done on Dominica the players are labelled as farmers and fishermen who practice after a day at sea or in the banana field.
This os not Lang Mama talking, this is the truth
