Dominica holds stakeholder forum on the role of communication in disaster management

Kelver Darroux

A forum on “Telecommunications ICT’s and their role in disaster management and risk reduction” is under way at at the Goodwill Parish Hall.

The forum is being hosted by the Ministry of Information, Telecommunications and Technology, in partnership with the International Telecommunications Union.

Telecommunications and Technology Minister, Kelver Darroux, said at a news conference on Monday, that the conference was decided upon because of the impact of Hurricane Maria on the country and its devastating effect on the entire telecommunications sector “where Dominica lost in excess of EC$128 million.”

Darroux described the two day conference as timely.

“I believe that this conference is timely and it provides all the stake holders the opportunity to ensure that we can be better prepared to deal with disaster risk management and risk reduction,” he said.

He stated that the government of Dominica has partnered with local, regional and international agencies to ensure that the conference would become a reality and that at the end of the two day event, some  documentation will be available to chart the way forward.

“Coming out of that conference, a document will be presented to the government of Dominica that will be able to give the government some sound advice as to how best to implement measures based on the two day consultation,” Darroux stated.

He continued, “We also need from that conference ways to have a more manageable and feasible plan in moving the ICT forward.”

Local, regional and international representatives from the ICT and telecommunications sector are expected to participate in the conference.

Director of Telecommunications for the government of Dominica, Bennett Thomas, speaking on radio recently, described as critical, the role of communication in disaster management.

Us Blacks like to claim our ancestors built Europe and America but we can’t manage and grow these small islands in the Caribbean to the standards in those same country we supposedly built. idiots.

The rest of the Caribbean are much more developed, and advanced than Dominica; ours is the only place in the Caribbean, and the rest of the world  world exists in such poverty, and backward state! Before the coalition Government (labor party), which Roosevelt took over Dominica was well on its way to making progress.

Roosevelt took over Dominica and destroyed the nation; it like every tree that was planted that corrupted clown uprooted them all leaving the bare and dry!

Black people did not not build Europe, although the first to inhabit Europe were black people; nevertheless, America was built on the backs of African stolen from Africa, brought here and enslaved!

I guess whereas life itself began in Africa, you might want to say Black people built Europe, I can debate otherwise, while I admit that Africans were the first humans in Europe, some may ask how come since Europe is noted White: the answer to that is the theory of mutation, and survival!

U dumb for saying this. It’s like you’re one of those people who learns from what they read on facebook because they don’t have the concentration or ability to read for their own understanding

Kelver, you are on your way out, it might be better if you become quiet and invisible; you are part of a corrupted regime, of which the players deal all the cards in their favor: as such from Roosevelt down all are rich, even to some Roosevelt tag village caretakers got millions to bribe people and buy votes.

Even these so called care takers thief the money; keep it for themselves, and save it in all kinds of bank account in their family name. You all made a mess of the country, ours is a failed bankrupt State surviving off the sale of Passports.

Roosevelt  say you are the minister of Technology; I asks  what form of new technology have you brought to the country, or rather shall I ask what new technological invention have you brought to Dominica and the rest of the world. Sitting there taking about disaster communication has nothing to do with technological inventions.

How many technological industries have you brought to the country?

I thought we retired the term “stakeholder”
    Now we have “resilient” “stakeholders”

And we still string wires on poles!

As I understand it, the fibre optic cables that we are now using can be routed underground without conduit providing there are warning tapes to prevent accidental damage. Please correct me if I am wrong.

Along with “resilience” could we banish the word “stakeholder”.
