Dominica has joined hands with Venezuela in celebrating that country’s 202nd anniversary of Independence.

At a ceremony held to commemorate the occasion on Friday Juy 5, 2013 at the Simon Boilvar Square in Goodwill, Venezuelan Ambassador to Dominica Hayden Pirela thanked the Government of Dominica for erecting the Simon Bolivar Square. He reassured Dominica that Venezuela is by no means in Dominica to invade but to co-operate.

“We Venezuelans love Venezuela, and when we do migrate to other countries it’s not to invade it’s only to co-operate and that’s why we are here. Venezuela is a big country and we do not take advantage of smaller countries.”

He added that it is not only important to have a signed document stating that you are independent but there is a need to maintain this independence.

According to Pirela, all plans drafted by Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit and late Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez are now in action. He made reference to the coffee plant which he said will be ready in one year and will contribute to the development of Dominica.

Ag Prime Minister Ambrose George spoke at the function and congratulated the people of Venezuela on their 202nd anniversay of independence. He said Dominica will continue to stand with President Nicholas Maduro and the people of Venezuela.

George noted that “freedom anywhere is a beacon to men and women everywhere, President Chavez gave his life to fighting for human dignity in our region and worked tirelessly to help advance the dream of Bolivar, the dream of Venezuela”.

Is it a coincident that the long awaited Coffee Plant suddenly landed in Dominica to the surprise of many Dominicans, just around the time when no country in the Western Hemisphere wants to make its airspace available so that the Russians could move Mr. Snowden to Venezuela who has agreed to accept him.
