Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit has said that Dominica has seen tremendous benefits after 15 years of diplomatic relations with China.
He spoke on Tuesday night at a function to mark the 15th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Dominica. The event which was hosted by Chinese Embassy was held at the Goodwill Parish Hall.
Skerrit announced that Dominica has renewed its support for a One China Policy.
“As Prime Minister of the country… we’re in absolute complete adherence to the One China policy and we maintain this both as a matter of principle but also very fundamentally, in respect to international law…” he said
The prime minister said that China has contributed greatly towards Dominica’s economic development.
“Every sector in our society has benefited directly from that relationship over the last 15 years and if one were to extract the investment which China has made to us, we will not be as far in our nation’s development,” he declared. “And I remember very clearly how instrumental China was in assisting our country especially during our stabilization program… China was able to provide us with direct final support to help cushion the impact on the citizenry of our country.”
He said China is providing its assistance to Dominica with absolutely no preconditions, recognizing that they have a responsibility to the international community.
Meantime, China’s Ambassador to Dominica, His Excellency Lu Kun said that the relationship between China and Dominica has grown rapidly.
“15 years has…passed, the relationship between China and Dominica grows fast…steady just like a flower. The strong relationship between our two countries has yielded… fruits which benefited both the people of China and Dominica,” Ku Kun stated.
He said China will never interfere with Dominica’s internal affairs and despite differences in size, social systems, history and culture, China has always maintained that all countries are equal and Dominican has the right to choose its path to development.
He said China’s economic assistance to Dominica is free and without any political conditions.
“The Chinese government highly appreciates Dominica as it adheres to One China policy,” adding this has laid a solid foundation for the friendly relations between our two countries”.
An MOU was signed 15 years ago with a 4 pillar project as de ice breaker.
15 years later de MOU is not yet fulfilled……you mean it is that difficult to build a hospital?

Roosevelt is the only fool recognizing the following:
The One-China policy refers to the policy or view that there is only one state called “China”, despite the existence of two governments that claim to be “China”.
As a policy, this means that countries seeking diplomatic relations with the People’s Republic of China (PRC) must break official relations with the Republic of China (ROC), and vice versa.
Hence, all the countries recognizing the ROC recognize it as the sole legitimate representative of all of China, and not just the island of Taiwan and other islands which it controls.
Similarly, all states that recognise the PRC either recognise the PRC as the legitimate representative of Taiwan or acknowledge the PRC’s views on the matter.
In other words; Roosevelt is the clown…
In other words Roosevelt Skerrit is the only human on earth supporting the annexation of Taiwan.
Only an ignorant person would try to convince a nation, that China is simply giving Dominica money for free!

Everyone on Earth knows that “One China” is a fiction. Taiwan has been independent in all but name for longer than most people have been alive.

Self determination was the force behind Dominica’s independence from Britain. Self determination for Taiwan and Tibet should be supported, not dismissed for cash. How would Dominica have felt if the world had denounced our country’s self determination and drive for independence in exchange for payment ? To quote the rule of international law in relation to a people’s right to self determination is folly and obtuse. This running around the world selling your soul for money may well be a good way for a country to develop economically, but it does nothing for morality, and it creates a hand-out mentality among the population and sets a premise for our younger generation that this country is unable to stand on its own two feet. In other words, our self determination and independence have become meaningless in this context. We survive on handouts and we don’t care how we do it.

Dominicans with any understanding of geopolitics can’t accept China’s promise never to interfere in Dominica’s internal affairs. The truth is Dominica’s internal affairs has already been interfered and influenced by China. One can safely conclude that the statement made by the ambassador of China was made to allay the fears od Dominicans. There is an old adage that birds of a feather flock together; the present administration has made and continue to make promises that are never kept. Later this week the US President will be meeting with 5 Caribbean leaders. As part of their agenda they will discuss working with countries in the region to strengthen security cooperation and counter China’s predatory economic practice. Is Dominica going to cooperate with the region and the US when China is the target? Someone should explain to the citizenry. Dominicans have been kept in the dark for too long. Wake up people.
