Dominica votes at OAS to recognize Maduro’s second term as Venezuela president

Maduro was sworn as president of Venezuela for a second term on Thursday
Dominica has agreed to recognise the legitimacy of Nicolas Maduro’s new term as president of Venezuela at a vote taken during a meeting on Thursday of the Permanent Council of the Organization of American States (OAS).
Maduro was sworn in Thursday for a second term as Venezuela’s president, despite international criticism that his re-election is illegitimate.
The May 2018 polls, which Maduro said he won, were marred by an opposition boycott and vote-rigging claims.
The European Union (EU) has said it will not recognise Maduro’s presidency.
Earlier this week, Venezuelan Supreme Court judge, Christian Zerpa, fled to the US in protest over Maduro winning the second term, arguing that the election was not free and fair.
The OAS resolution not to recognize Maduro’s second term was presented by Colombia, Argentina, Brazil, Costa Rica, the United States, Paraguay and Peru.
It was approved by 19 votes in favour, six against and eight absentions.
The matter had the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) split in its position on the Maduro Administration.
St. Vincent and the Grenadines led a group consisting of Suriname and Dominica, which voted against the resolution.
Jamaica, St. Lucia, The Bahamas, Haiti and Guyana voted for it.

St. Kitts, Trinidad and Tobago, Barbados, Belize and Grenada abstained.

Birds of a feather flock together so it’s no surprise that the Skerritt led dictatorship is supporting the corrupt Maduro. For an oil-rich country, it’s a shame what the Venezuelan people have to suffer and millions have to run away from their country. Uncle Sam will help the Venezuelan people at the right time so Skerritt is on the wrong side of history. The end is near for these despotic, bankrupt and evil regimes, look at Sudan, Zimbabwe etc. Nothing lasts forever. It’s just shameful that the double doctorate dude can’t see it and reverse course.

Look there is a shutdown in America! Why do you all not talk about this? You mischievous people! Are you all so desperate for the UWP to win that you will do anything for that? I am fearful because it would seem that you those who criticize would do anything to get this young man out of power. People stop this none sense. Corrupt dictator… I have seen this man humble and loving whilst you are so obsessed with you thinking that you all would inject your thoughts into others. You people want to put words into persons mouth and minds. Let me tell you something… Do you ever remember that there is a Creator – a higher being than us to whom this earth belongs? Yes the evil one is loosed but we are free thinkers and we have to choose. So guys make your choices but remember the Great One above knows, sees and hears everything from the coco (heart). Meditate people and do what is right for the truth will set you free. The alarm you raise is not true (conviction), I live here!

What does a government in America have to do with Maduro stealing an election and causing millions of his people to flee to neighboring countries? You are way off in left field. Clear your head and open your brain to understand and contextualize world events

You have little understanding of the truth and facts of world events. South Sudan is the newest country in the world and is not a terrorist country. What are you talking about? It is an oil-rich country.

Man bites dog, I guess by Skerritt harboring Monfared in Dominica, makes the country a haven for international criminals? Are you also suggesting that because there have been numerous terrorist acts in France and Britain that they are terrorist countries? Wheel and come again so-called soldier boy. If you even were in a military unit you were nothing but an order taker not smart enough to rationalize and understand.

Today is Venezuela tomorrow it shall be Dominica! There are no if, no buts, no maybes about it. IF SKERRIT remains in power, before 2019 ends Dominica will be like Venezuela, even worse because Skerrit, Erika and Maria started the destruction of Dominica. Those of you seeing the destruction but defending the lies of Skerrit will one day say to the rocks to fall on you and bury you alive but it will not happen because you guys will have to endure your fare share of pain and suffering.

Father forgive us! Do you hear of the disasters over all the world? Indonesia suffered so much 2018 and this year. Why do you do such. I tell you one thing … God hears us and he is the vindicater of those we maligned for no reason. American says God bless America! I write today and stand even if it me alone – God Bless Dominica! We shall overcome! Pessimists you all are and prophet of doom and gloom but many of us (majority) do not agree with your curses and hatred and we humbly go to our Father for repentance on behalf of the Nation. You calling for rocks to fall on persons. Do not wish bad for everyone for there is a saying that the pit you did for someone, you might fall in it. Steve I always find your comments reasonable, but attitudes led by the USA is not always based on reason but on their own national or money interest. Many years ago they had the same attitude on Mexico when Mexico nationalized their oil industry. ong before it was Egypt when they nationalized the Aswan Dam. Can you remember what went on about the Panama canal, or Cuba. I can go on, and on about USA rogue regime activities. When USA make enemies of a country they expect everyone to march in line. When the make friends they also expect the same.
Rosie Douglas initiative towards Cuba made him a communist militant, because USA politics detested Castro because Castro nationals sugar, expelled 1 mil. USA leaning I% of the population who controlled the wealth of a nation of about 15 mil people. Money interest rules. In Venezuela its the OIL IINEREST money. Venezuela billion of dollars invested in oil business in the US is also targeted . Remember when OPEC took control of its oil.

      January 14, 2019

what prevented severe retaliation was Sudi Arabia and USA big oil convincING the politions that they could make, BIGGER profit, more money and bigger donations. Then Chavez came and reduced their profit margin with his policies and calling Bush out. So Chavez and Venezuela were put I the political dog house. If Obama did not become President, Venezuela would have invaded . The present attitude prevail because the now USA administration wants to carry a punitive vendetta. Why cant they have a reconciling attitude that they now have towards Cuba, North Korea and Russia (their traditional enemies ) GO FIGURE.

Neville , you are right. I do not know what I am talking about because I was not there and did not experience these historical events. I did not experience the purges of Federick or Peter the great of Russia, Mao of China or Hitler of Germany re the Jews. But the situation In Puerto Rico is in my time and yours. The desperation and chaos of USA citizens that are ignored by the media is in our time our experience. The death of children from Guetemala in consentration type prisons on the USA border is in our time , our experience our knowledge. The 16 homeless people who died only yesterday , who froze to death in the USA is in your time , your experience. So Go figure my knowledge because I do not know what I am talking about. So also are the 800,000 payless workers.

  12. Remember Venezuela
    January 12, 2019

But I am not surprised because Skerrit is more of a dictator than Maduro and the man is far more corrupt than any dictator before him. Not only that but that’s how Skerrit has remained on office all these years and that’s how he planning on stealing the next election; so what you all expect? Dominica is the next Venezuela and I hope people are talking note of what is happening in Venezuela today since that’s the very same direction Skerrit has taken Dominica. I fee burdened to warn Dominicans because because one more term for Skerrit will mean complete destruction of Dominica. I warning all you people. Just remember Venezuela because the same game plan of Skerrit’, the same things he saying and doing are the very same things Chavez did for 14 years and less than five years after his death Venezuela tumbled. So take warning people and please reject Skerrit. I am a labourite but I can see the downfall of Dominica if Skerrit is not removed from office

You see I am right here in Dominica and the things that you guys are connocting about this country to mislead people is so vile. You all are the ones who are doing all what you say the young man is doing. You all stoop so low. I know that the PM of Dominica was elected. I know that many things you all are saying are untruths. There are a lot of developments taking place. Houses are built, roads are repaired. I saw some work being down just close to Salisbury on the main road. I wonder as I travel all over and see work going on. What is wrong with you people? You mean that you will go to such extremes because you hate one man. What has this man done to you all? I am literally crying because the stories you fabricate are not true. Why people why people why??? Persons who are out when they read those comments think that we are under a siege here. Why Why why? Dominica has not gone in any direction that you frighten persons about. I am here. Stop this nonesence!

He was elected in elections which Caricom mission says in reports are free but not fair. Doesn’t that resonate with you? It’s not just a matter of having elections but the type and quality of elections. Those elections were not fair so only a corrupt person would endorse them. For myself, I don’t want this to continue in the future. Go read the Caricom elections observer mission report.

No surprise then with regard to our government but where does this leave CARICOM.?I am particularly concerned about Guyana. Who will come to its aid when Venezuela enforces it territorial claims, emboldened by Russia which has sunk billions into joint ventures with Caracas for the exploration of mineral resources. Certainly not Dominica or its neighbour Suriname, who are allies of Maduro and have their own deals with Russia. There must be some serious soul searching going among the leading CARICOM members, asking themselves if they really need such troublesome “friends” as us.
Yesterday, the London Times, under the headline “World boycotts inauguration of dictator Maduro”, quoted the head of Foreign Affairs for the EU, Frederica Mogherini saying that the election lacked any credibility. This one of our biggest benefactors over the years and such sentiments do not bode well for us.
Only four heads of state attended the inauguration, from Cuba, Nicaragua, Bolivia and El Salvador.

UK Dominica ..Majority does not mean that it is right. This clearly shows that we are selfish individuals as we cling to who is standing up. We tend to forget the good that someone does for us (ingratitude/Ungrateful). You would rather kill your friend in hard times & not pull the friend up. Who needs friends like some of you? We are free thinkers as this is how God created us. We have to choose, he does not force his will on us. But many of you do not think so but want to impose your thoughts on others especially those of you for whatever reason, you want the party aligned to win at all costs (libel, slander, accuse with no facts , even as imposing natural disaster on the shoulder of one man etc). I can not see how you, your party can win right thinking individuals to your fold. Also you are in the UK. You need to have first hand view of what is going on. I travel all over the island. America &UK have their own domestic problems. World boycott does not mean correct.

So Dominica and countries that voted in favour of the OAS resolution have no human rights , But a country where over 800,000 people are working without pay and over 500,500 are homeless has tons of human rights, and a lot of love for its people.
If a country have no love for its own people how can they love me or my people.

Skerrit don’t think that after your defeat at the polls of 2019, you will do like Maduros. You are not academically sharp, but the international community is focussed on your fetid, corrupt ,unfair and dirty politics.

In diplomacy the best stance on voting for or against a resolution is to abstain if you want to be loyal to both parties, for example Dominica never vote for or against Japan re it’s whaling issue, but yet still Japan never withdrew its aid to Dominica under Jica. Skerrit is strengthening his hatred to the USA, while Dominicans are face with visa renewal restrictions but his wife and kids are American citizens. Dominicans please wake up

    • Joseph John
      January 14, 2019

Skerrit is not expressing any hatred towards the USA. The OAS members by a majority voted for the resolution. This is how international diplomacy is carried out . The underlining factor is that every nation is entitled to carry protect its national interest. Its not like the old days when Uncle Sam could wave a big stick .
Then there is big oil international corporations protecting their money interest. They have tremendous political influence INTERNATIONALLY.
