Dominican charged in major drug bust in Antigua

Gerald Darroux

A Dominican national is among two individuals who were charged on Tuesday in connection with one of the biggest drug busts in Antigua and Barbuda.

The Office of the National Drug and Money Laundering Control Policy (ONDCP) said Gerald Darroux, a Dominican national living in Golden Grove New Extension, presented himself to their office on Monday along with his attorney.

He was wanted for questioning in connection with the recent seizure of one point eight million dollars’ worth of compressed cannabis.

Darroux and Glenroy Pierre, a Vincentian national, are jointly charged with Possession of Cannabis, Possession with Intent to Transfer, Being Concerned in the Supply of Cannabis and Drug Trafficking.

They are expected to make a court appearance to answer to the charges on Wednesday, February 6th 2019.

Last week, the ONDCP issued a wanted bulletin for the duo, and appealed to the public for help in finding them.

A third man is also said to be facing charges for the trafficking of the substance.

The ONDCP allegedly intercepted a Noah Van carrying 450 pounds of marijuana in Falmouth on January the 24th.

With that type of cash, I hope he was sending all his profits back home to his family. The balance sheets at ….. Bank should have been much more robust with this cash infusion. A Vincentian national was also part of the arrest. That’s Caribbean unity in action. I do not see a criminal here. I see an entrepreneur. Cut him loose and send him back home where he can create legal dispensaries, employ people and contribute to the national Treasury. It’s time we legalize weed and stop all this sensational nonsense. Underneath my administration, I would help him to brand his weed, create dispensaries in strategic locations on island (Bayfront) and use it as part of my tourism marketing campaign.

AMEN!. to all of what you said brother. We need to stop demonizing it and make it illegal so the critics and the hypocrites can stop looking down at people involved in the cannabis movement. Just remember at one point alcohol outlawed.

What’s the big deal? Isn’t cannabis legal now in Antigua? They make it seem like it is cocaine. The story would be better for his reputation, if it had read that he had no license to transport such a huge amount of marijuana.
