Dominican promotes Caribbean music in Russia

Although Russia may sound like a country far away to many, Dominican Trevon Lee, also known as ‘Т’Ele’, says he is on a mission to make Caribbean music known in that country.

Lee was the main performer at the Caribbean Carnival show over the weekend in Moscow, aimed at giving Russians a taste of the Caribbean culture.

Now he said he is on a mission to make “Dancehall and Soca the most demanded genres in Russia.”

This is not the first time Lee has actually performed in Russia. He started performing Hip Hop and R&B but after two years, decided to switch to Dancehall because, according to him, “I wanted to introduce and build something new to Russian music lovers.”

In 2010, he and other artistes in Moscow recorded a song and video called “Don’t Cry,” which became very popular.

Along with manager Roman Samusev, Lee has launched a Reggae/Dancehall radio show on “Radio Record Novomoskovsk” to bring Caribbean music to a larger Russian audience.

Lee has performed in numerous cities in Russia including Tula, Shekina, Aleksin, Kaluga and of course the capital, Moscow and his music is gaining acceptance.

“When I perform, I don’t just sing my songs, I give my audience a complete show,” he said.

He said his music can be heard on the internet but he prefers to be seen live on stage. “My songs can be heard on the internet anytime, but my performances are limited to those who come to the show. This is when I can express myself the fullest and show, in live form, and that is the most interesting part of Dancehall music and Caribbean culture,” he said.

The artiste has many plans for the near future, which include more shows in different cities in Russia and plans to expand his performances in Europe towards the end of the year.

He is also working on his first professional music video for his single ‘Da Nino’.

The song was produced by Dancehall producer El Toro.

T’Ele is also expected to feature on the Jump Riddim produced by Ransack Productions.

I wonder why the flyer does not feature a Dominican flag. I am very tured off wen I hear our artists imitating Jamaican dialect and patois but ths is just me and maybe I can’t see it. My rationale however is be yourself , be proud of who you are and the ame will come to you. Our artist put so much effort into imitating Jamaicans that the end products are weak.
Nevertheless if this is te tide that our artist think will raise their boats then so it is.

Why say words like ‘Fronting’ which is not used in our dominican dialect? why at all speak proper english if it’s not used in our dialect? The young man is not only a dominican, he was born in Trinidad and stll has Jamaican roots so how are you to say stick to your roots when he has not 1 but 3 to stick to..appriciate the fact that he is not claiming these other countries, he’s claiming Dominica.

LET PEOPLE BE WHO THEY ARE!

He is not going around claiming these other places, he’s claiming Dominica.

Let these artists be who they dream to be!

He has been promoting Bouyon as well..He has been playing it everyweek on the radio show along with the music of other dominican artists. If he doesn’t sing it, that doesn’t mean that he doesn’t promote it.

That may be so ,but Boney M was the first western group,in the days of the Cold War to be invited by the Soviet Union to perform there. Boney M was made up of Liz and Marcia from Jamaica, Maize from Montserrat and Bobby Farrell from Aruba. Bobby apparently settled in St Petersburg where he dies a few years ago.
      Wish this young man well.
