Dominican Republic nationals in D/ca, celebrate their country’s independence

Dominican Republic nationals and their Dominican friends celebrating

Nationals of the Dominican Republic  residing in Dominica, on Sunday 26th February, celebrated their country’s Independence which is officially observed on February the 27th.

Several members of the Dominican Republic community here gathered at the D’lo Cho area at Layou on Sunday to celebrate the occasion.

That area, which was recently hit by devastating floods, reverberated to the sounds of merengue, bachata and reggaeton as our Spanish speaking guests and some of their Dominican friends ate drank and made merry at the scenic riverside.

The Dominican Republic, which comprises the eastern two-thirds of what was initially known as the island of Hispaniola, was officially declared independent from Spain on February 27, 1844, and the name República Dominicana (Dominican Republic) was adopted.

The remaining one third of the island makes up the country of Haiti.

I am still trying to understand why people from DR migrated to Dominica so much so that the DR community is organizing an independent day observation. I have no objection but somebody explain to me what did the lovely DR people came to Dominica for – is it for job opportunities, is it strictly love relationship, certainly not education. Just curious- my Ex is of DR origin and have been there a few times. Love the DR

It is not onlt DOMINICANO that celebrate whever they live, if you are proud of who you are no matter where you live you should celebrate your Independence in another mans country, the Government will kill or send you away for doing so… be proud of who you are and where you come from, i am in another mans country and I tell you when come to take part in being a DOMINICAN I put on my Wob Duiet or my Colorful Dress and go to work.. so people stop judging and partake of your countries PRIDE..Congratulations to the Dominican Republic in Dominica….

BVI…Maybe You are the reason there is crime in the BVI!!

Whats your point.. having an immigrants are the ones who commit crime? It ALWAYS ASTOUNDS me how nativeas of ANY country can be so racists/ discriminating against immigrants! You need to travel and then for it to happen to YOU in another mans land!

What a ignorant and ill thought comment.

AND this is comming from someone residing in someone elses country.

It is claimed that travel broadens the mind, but alas not for all of us.

Being in people’s countries does mean we are welcome there. Have you heard of ANTI IMMIGRANT.
