Six Dominican students will graduate after successfully completing a 9 month International Therapists Examination Council (ITEC) course in Holistic Massage with Anatomy and Physiology.

The students were trained through a combination of on-site classes and online programs. They were also expected to complete extensive coursework and case studies.

At the end of June the candidates took a rigorous practical and a 3 hour written exam and submitted their coursework at UWI Open Campus with an ITEC external examiner from the United States.

Member of the Dominica Spa, Health and Wellness Association Terri Henry, spearheaded the training.

Henry partnered with Patricia Greenidge-Berry, Principal of the ‘Personal Body Health Care Clinic and School Of Holistic Therapies’ (PBHCCSHT) in Barbados.

The Dominica Spa, Health and Wellness Association’s President Martha Cuffy said “we need to equip the upcoming generation with a sustainable career path that gives them the confidence and skills of the highest calibre to excel in the rising wellness economy and to maintain Dominica’s place as a wellness destination. Now we have the right mix of human and natural resources to create unique wellness experiences. And on a humane level, the power of caring touch is one of the best medicines available”.

This initiative was sponsored by the Discover Dominica Authority (DDA), Anchorage Hotel, Fort Young Hotel, Castle Comfort Lodge, Cocoa Cottage, KHATTS and Guiyave Restaurant.

ITEC has been awarding high quality and respected industry qualifications since 1947. It is now one of the world’s leading and most successful awarding bodies specialising in Beauty and Complementary Therapy, Sport, Fitness and Hairdressing sectors.

ITEC awards over 38,000 certifications annually in almost 40 countries.

According to the Dominica Spa, Health and Wellness Association, plans to offer another ITEC massage diploma this October and other continuing education programs in the holistic healing field are dependent on sponsorship.

A CERTIFIED THERAPIST HAS TO HAVE AT LEAST FIVE HUNDRED HOURS TO BE CALLED A MASSAGE THERAPIST.iTEC TRAINING IS ONLY 105HOURS WITH BASIC ANATOMY AND PHYSIOLOGY.IF YOU ARE GOING TO SPEND TEN THOUSAND EC$ FOR A COURSE, IS IT REALLY WORTH IT.

Hi Karen, this ITEC program was over 500 hours and thus our therapists are well trained and qualified to work internationally. Thanks

I would like to inform you the programme is approx 560 hours in total The students have worked extremely long hours to achieve all four exams. It may be worth checking facts about the content of course .They most definitely would not hurt anyone’s back. Thank you for concerns.

It doesn’t say that it’s a degree in physical therapy, it says holistic massage with anatomy and physiology… just because it uses similar words it doesn’t mean it’s the same course!

Well done Martha and Terri for organising. I think that Terri does a lot for Dominica in many ways, although she is a full time mother. She is always promoting wellness, the use of natural products and eating naturally for better health.

Truly proud to see that there is finally a well authorized program in Massage therapy here. Congrats to all. Don’t let anyone call you all Masseuse. Tell them to research the difference. You all are Massage Therapists. Way more qualified than a Masseuse who knows nothing about Physiology and anatomy, and who can’t even write up a referral. cuddos to you all.

These people are well trained based on the countless testimonies shared by those who went there for massages and other health cares. people don;t just waste their money like that that is why so many people are flocking into the offices. appointments have to be pushed so far back because of booking. I don’t just put my money in anything or allow anyone to place their hands on me and say its a massage they are giving me. I am a very professional person in society and once I go there or allow myself to receive treatment from these people its because I know they are good and its worth it. I wish I could getr an earlier appointment this time around. These people are damn good and this time me and my entire family will go there. This young lady in the photo is so professional I know she can go to anywhere in the world and make lots of money because of her skills so lets appreciate what we have. I know about these things because of my travel experience. Right now I have no reason to spend so much money taking that treatment overseas because its right here.
I give these people an A+

No where does it mention that they’ve completed as Physical Therapist. The correct title is Massage Therapist and they’ve completed under the full recommendations and regulations for Massage therapist world wide.
