Five contracts totalling over $1.5-million have been signed for various projects in the San Sauveur/ Petite Soufriere communities.

The contracts were signed at the Fifteenth Inaugural Meeting of the San Sauveur/Petite Soufriere Village Council on Wednesday, August 27, 2014 at the San Sauveur Primary School.

Deonson Gregoire and Matthew Gustave have each been awarded a contract to construct five, two bedroom housing units in San Sauveur.

The ten houses will include kitchen, living-room and toilet and will provide much needed housing to people of San Sauveur affected by natural disasters. Each contract is in the amount of $$696,641.25. The construction phase is expected to last four months.

Cecil Ravaliere has been awarded a contract to construct 30 feet of covered concrete drains at the intersection of the Good Hope to San Sauveur Road and the road leading to the San Sauveur Housing Scheme. The contract is valued at $12,404.75. Construction is expected to last three weeks.

Peter Constant has been awarded a contract in the amount of $53,785.58 for the paving of 250 feet of roadway leading to the San Sauveur Housing Scheme. The road will be 16 feet wide and no less than four inches thick. Construction is expected to last three weeks.

The Government has through the San Sauveur/ Petite Soufriere Village Council provided over $60,000 for the construction of a retaining wall at Liveire Leui. The contract for the project was signed between Chairman of the San Sauveur/ Petite Soufriere Village Council Kimanie Mourillon and contractor Simon Alie in the amount of $60,055.88.

Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, Roosevelt Skerrit welcomed the contract signings describing the projects as necessary for the people of San Sauveur and Petite Soufriere.

Prime Minister Skerrit stated that the contract will provide employment and economic enhancement for the area.

“Every one of the contractors is from this part. I am hoping that they can employ as many people as possible from this part of the country so that … every single dollar will stay and help the economy of these communities,” Prime Minister Skerrit stated.

Parliamentary Representative for the Castle Bruce Constituency which included San Sauveur and Petite Soufriere, Johnson Drigo, is excited about the investments in his constituency.

He stated that this is another instance of promises made and promises kept by the Dominica Labour Party Administration.

The projects are expected employ well over fifty people.

You may choose to run the most bias articles degrading the present administration, but, DNO you have a pretty good idea which direction the election will swing. You have failed to publish any comment that favors the present administration, but in the end the majority will prevail. Only in DA. Still waiting moderation++++++++

Labour and PM Skerrit are desperate. They had a high level meeting yesterday at Krazy Koconuts and one og their henchmen who was present at the meeting told me that the elections are getting to close to call. Many of the people in the meeting were asking the PM to call elections sooner than later because Team Dominica is gaining popularity. They were also shockedafter all the propaganda they propagated against Mr. Linton his leadership profile is enhancing.
People look out for more lies, mepuis and propaganda. DLP will also promise more projects. Charlie John was a big presenter at the meeting

This is just pure cheap politics with no intellegence, moral and any sense of pride and respect for poor people. This Government is going in and out of these poor communities and just playing games . Where were these politicians for the past four years ? Where were these palreps? They never had money and totally and completely ignored the poor and oppressed now that election is drawing nigh they are all over the place like ants trying to get votes….
Its very sad to see the PM going around playing Santa Claus with the poor. Just pure games. That’s all they are gonna get cause the government based on their performance record doesn’t care for the poor…. They are just using the poor for votes and to make news.. These Politicians are all living in mansions and have lots of money and property yet the poor are getting poorer in Dominica.. Life is just to hard for Dominicans for this shameless government to come around and just using the poor.
This cabinet is just a failure and disappointment. They must be the worst and most clueless government in the world…….
Not one change for the poor…………. Its like the poor in Dominica will die poor and this government officials will die fat and full of momney..
Look at this palrep from Castle bruce, he is behind his daddy PM peeping peeping as if he is doing some great job… This labour government needs a reality check…….. Vote them all out for their rudeness and disrespect……
From Laplaine to Roseau Palreps : Failed and failed and failed – look at the roads
Carib Territory- failed failed failed though the Telecommunication minister said that the Carib Territory is not ignored==== look at the roads and so forth
west coast to the North.. Failed failed failed— nothing to sing about – what’s in a stupid high way– with one lane..
From the Airport to portmouth- failed failed the thing to see is grass and trees for so =======
South Failed Failed so the conclusion is simple: If you all failed why give you all another chance?
If Dominicans vote this government after they kill the country – it will be funeral rites………………………………………
Time to Rise and Take back the country—– Nuff Said

Promises made and kept you say…..OK
Each of the 10 houses will cost just under $70 000…….no mention of whether they will be one or two bedroom. No bath. Lumber or concrete construction?
    300′ of covered box drain.
250′ paving? Is this asphalt? (2bad PWC)
    $60 000 retaining wall……no details?

So this work has to be forced down de people within months before the election so when you going against Isaac Baptiste you will have something to talk about.

    Not impressive. Lame strategy.
After de term pretty much over DAT is all my fellow citizens can get????????

Is this a manifestation of the love of the DLP?????

  19. Fooled again?
    August 28, 2014

Just witness how manipulation, trickery, indifference, dishonesty, etc., etc., are the order of the day.

Where were those communities all the time? Where were the monies all the time? Where were those projects all the time? Where was Skerro and his incompetent Govt’ all the time? Villagers are bawling

After 14 plus Years in Gov’t, their works cannot set them free. In desperation on their way out, projects flying here there and everywhere, especially where DLP feels they would lose. Now can be found pronto.

But isn’t that uncaring and wicked? The live line of the people in the rural areas have been mainly agriculture. Govt has neglected the villagers Big Time. Their standards of living have plummeted. Poverty among the masses have increased, therefore the rush to Financial Centre for hand-outs. VAT is taking its toll.

Wickedness because the underlying trick is to fool the people. While a few in public Office have become dirt rich by dubious means, the majority of people have been catching hell. Some are eating all. More harm have been done by impoverishing the masses than improving their livelihoods. The economy is in shambles.

That is fine but Please Please PlEASE! Make the building up to building codes, modern and aesthitically appealing. Dont take the contract, build rubbish that not even looking nice and hold the rest of the money in your pocket. IS high time we start building nice looking building around the island. Look at a Caribbean Homes magazine or a Home and Style Magazine for cheaper, efficient, effective more modern ways of building if is money u want to save to maximize your profit and still make a good looking inviting building. Not a ole concrete structure on stilts with concrete bannisters with a hideous color to match. Kudos for San Sauver, but make sure allu do the job right!!

election round the conner look project mama can you feel it coming?

  27. Hurricane Skerrit
    August 28, 2014

I remember in the 90’s it was very difficult to get 10 people in any village to work for you because people were busy working in construction, banana fields, gardens,, cleaning drains and roadsides for public works and in other areas. Today Hurricane Skerrit has destroyed all those places of employment, and future of our young people, that you can now go to very smack villages like San Sauveur and Petite Soufriere and pick up over 50 young men that are unemployed, according to this article, and employ them for 3 weeks to 4 months? What will these young men turn to after the election and their 3 week employment is finished? Drugs? The same problems Skerrit and Drigo seeing in San Sauveur/ Petite Soufriere, are the same problems we see nationwide. The people have been made poor, unemployed and as a result they have to depend on handouts and 3 week employment before election to buy their vote. Oh, Lord help our people see and understand where we heading

  28. Castle Bruce
    August 28, 2014

What about Castle Bruce Mr Johnson Drigo? I guess San Soveur, Petite Soufrier and Goodhope have more votes. We need political gimmicks in Castle Bruce tooooo..

  29. Aie Dominique
    August 28, 2014

So according to them “The construction phase is expected to last four months”. Just 4 months for those houses. Then contract of Cecil Ravaliere is expected to last three weeks. 3 WEEKS! Then contract of Peter Constant is expected to last 3 weeks too. Then contract for the project between Chairman of the San Sauveur/ Petite Soufriere Village Council Kimanie Mourillon and contractor Simon Alie in the amount of $60,055.88 has no time table. Amazingly though both Skerrit and Parl rep Drigo agree that the contract will provide employment and economic enhancement for the area. How long will these projects last again? Did I read 4 months for the house, 3 weeks for road pavement, and 3 weeks to cover drains? You mean to tell me that short term employment will enhance employment? How does a person survive working four months every 14s year and in cases and in some cases 3 weeks? To be employed for only 4 months every year and 3 weeks yearly, will SURELY LEAD TO GROSS POWERTY!!

  30. Bull Crap
    August 28, 2014

Election coming.. project gonna start all over. yet not one politician has yet to say how they plan to grow the economy or create jobs..with all the project you all just starting where is the money gonna come from to maintain then in the future.. all Dominicans care about is short term fix.. no one has ever said whats the long term goal for the country.

  31. Aie Dominique
    August 28, 2014

This administration is again confirming to everyone that they are NOT concerned about development but rather, staying in power to finish enriching themselves. You talk about NO Vision whatsoever! They had 15 years to do that project but only saw it fit to start now just in time for the election. With all these last minute contracts that are being signed, no one should expect anything significant for DLP stronghold constituencies like: Portsmouth, Grandbay, Paix-bouche, Cottage, Colihault and Pitete savane. Why? Because they are already in the bank. he will only work with swing constituencies. In the 2005 election when Skerrit saw he was in trouble in Castle Bruce, did he not run and take money that was already set aside for a school I think for Thibaud ,and shifted it to this same San Sauveur? So 10 years later nothing to show as progress so he has to run back to the same old trick? How shameful!!!
