Major improvements are on the cards for the Woodbridge Bay Port at Fond Cole, according to Chief Executive Officer of the Dominica Air and Seaport Authority (DASPA), Benoit Bardouille.

Bardouille made the announcement at a small ceremony on board the MV Klipper when it arrived in Dominica this week.

The DASPA head said the Venezuelan Government has made US$12.5M available to Dominica to improve the physical structure of the port.

“We have engaged a company with a contractual obligation here of US$12.5 million to do repairs to the physical structure of the wharf with the compliments of the Government of Dominica through the Bolivian Republic of Venezuela and Petro Caribe.”

He revealed that there are more plans for Woodbridge Bay Port. But while these plans are still being developed, Bardouille revealed that the intention is to develop a modern port that would facilitate the quick loading and offloading of vessels that dock there.

“I would like to see that we will have the facilities here in Dominica where wave action would not hamper the ship loading or offloading in port,” Bardouillle stated.

Referring to a relationship that extends over several decades, Bardouille said Dominica looks forward to doing more business with Geest Line.

General Manager of H.H.V. Whitchurch and Company Ltd Gerry Aird said Whitchurch became the agent for Geest Line in 1998.

He said Geest has done a lot for Dominica, providing an efficient service of bringing cargo in and taking bananas out.

The MV Klipper Stream is one of four specialist refrigerated (reefer) vessels which has been under charter to Geest Line since 2008.

We do not a proper Hospital for our people in Dominica and we are investing all that money on the port. Are the people of D.A. not a priority? The Govt. of Venezuela do not have food and toiloet paper and they are giving D.A. all that money. The peoples of both these countries should really evaluate their leader. These peoples are the most backward people in this world. I pray for both these countries.

Am hearing of all these plans of development to commence in different areas in Dominica, but am not hearing of no work to commence on the Salisbury road. I guess that means the farmers and Salisbury people are not important. I have never seen a Government with such a petty attitude. This Government decided to close his ear where Salisbury is concerned because they did not vote the Labour Party. Time will tell. Nothing in this world goes unpunished.

    This story lacks information.
A couple years ago work was done to the port warf .
The Chinese boat was coming into port late night and turned off their lights. …why?
The boat slammed into the warf……..i remember hastening repairs the following morning.
All timber bumpers were removed and dumped at stock farm.
Metal bumpers were installed and a new dolphin constructed
    So what now?
    Details please? ???????????????
