A total of 100, out of 150 persons in need of funding for small businesses, have been assisted with financing amounting to E.C. $500,000 dollars according to the Minister for Kalinago Affairs and Member of Parliament for the Salybia Constituency, Casius Darroux.

The statement was made at a Town Hall meeting in Senekou on Wednesday, June 21st, 2017, where Darroux said that this disbursement, which was made earlier this month, is a step towards increasing financing to even more than this figure in the coming month.

“Early this month we were able to disburse $0.5- million dollars to residents of the Kalinago Territory. I don’t want to discuss anything that will be happening in July, but I can guarantee us that more funds will be approved for us to continue this small business development in the upcoming financial year, and it will be more than $0.5- million dollars,” Darroux affirmed.

He suggested that the government should be thanked for establishing this financing system as it is of great benefit to the Kalinago people.

“Majority of these individuals are in business or just starting up their business. I believe we need to thank the government for this initiative to start up the small business development fund, especially for the Kalinago people,” Darroux said.

According to him, the people that have been assisted so far have received tools and equipment for tasks including; livestock production, tourism, catering, Argo-processing, and production of virgin coconut oil, coconut oil, and cassava.

Darroux said that all these efforts are geared towards developing the socio-economic landscape of the constituency and towards the creation of employment for the people.

  1. Guy people like you Darroux, Blackmoore, Roosevelt Skerrit and the rest of the corrupted cabal are so sick, you all do not know when you are making a fool out of yourselves. You have five hundred thousand dollars to be divided among 150 people to fund small business.

That is $500,000.00 / 150 = $3,333.33. So, here you go with your stupid ambitions trying to impress intelligent people that three thousand, three hundred-thirty-three dollars, and thirty-three cents is enough to start a business: What kind of a business are you talking about?

Can you this Carib Chief tell us what sort, or kind of business three thousand dollars plus is about to start. Have you people no shame? While you give three thousand plus in bribes to each person, Blackmoore gives a little over six thousand dollars. Can’t you see the joke is on you two, and it’s not even laughable?

While money, in the form of assistance for sinior citizens, public assistance, school transfer grant, assistance to college students, building materials, houses, toilets are built in the kalinago territory all in the interest of catching votes, that certainly has created a dependency syndrome while the government do not have no development plan so that the people can have an opportunity to independently earn their own lively hoods and earn their own freedom and pride of independence,
certainly Mr Darroux do not seem to understand that his people need to grow, develop and maintain that pride for themselves but prefers to toe the line of his political party by using strategies to keep him and his party in political power and to hell with the pride of his peoples history culture and their independenc, i say so with strong conviction especially when the a top official from the Ministry of trade along with the kalinago council attempted to hold a workshop to review the kalinago…

to review the kalinago integrated development plan, when both the minister and his development officer could not be found on the morning of the workshop and so the workshop was forced to be cancelled, mr minister also has been on regullar intervals bypasses the kalinago council and undertake projects with his party contractors without the knowledge of the council; it has to be recognized that the kalinago council is put under the ministry of social service as any other village council in the country and given the status of a local government body, when he should be looking to improve and upgrade the status of his people the only indigenous people of the Eastern Caribbean whose foorprints and blood has flowed all over the Caribbean, he is now helping to further plunge and stiffle the rights pride and prestige of his people. wake up my friend do like Mr trump kalinago people first with the governance of your people, a kalinago peoples way forward and not political bribes .

The Kalinago people have no interest in being independent. They are very happy in eating the crumbs of the Labour party. To make things worst, the so called educated ones are quite happy in dancing to the crap of this government and welcome handouts with pride!

The Kalinago Chief is just a figurehead. He has lost his testicular fortitude and the gang that call themselves Kalinago Affairs play politics with the office of the Chief on a daily basis. Even his councilors fight him in defense of the Labour Party!

In the meantime, let them suck salt!!!

I am patiently awaiting the next census that will indicate a 0% in indigence in this indigenous community that we all so love!!!

    • When they give you a toilet, and your house is on a thousand feet slope with no structure to install the toilet. You cannot dig and install a catchments to store the feces, (a septic tank) what good is the toilet they gave you?

You people in Dominica allow these labor party clowns to treat you all like idiots, receiving gifts of no actual value, what is the purpose of accepting a toilet bowel, and tank when one does not have a place to install them?

This government continues to lose focus on true meaning of sustainable development; they continue to stifle the development of the economy by throwing money vikivi all over the place without a structured plan. At the same time they are dismantling the cooperative institutions, they are putting the NDFD and other small business lending institutions under unnecessary pressure, institutions like the credit unions – people will no longer go to these institutions for assistance and or loans because they can get free money from government with little or no accountability required – these institutions have a proven track record at the micro level; unlike the government that can’t even monitor, evaluate and report on their own projects and programs much less to manage, monitor, evaluate and report on the hundreds of so called small businesses. What will eventually happen these lending institutions will lay off people because they cant compete with the corrupt gov’t lending practices..

and I just don’t criticize for criticizing sake – the government and the people would have been better served if the so called CBI monies were channelled through the cooperative and small lending institutions sector to be borrowed at concessionary rates by the small business= by so doing the government would avoid all this talk about favouritism, politics and so on. But the myopic thinking and corrupt thinking of this government is allowed to be perpetuated and facilitated by the senior public officers who know better who are trained economist and financial persons yet they do not try to advise the government differently; on the other hand I have never heard the private sector criticize in a constructive way the blatant failure of this government to do things in a financially prudent way following best practice in fiscal management. Its just a down right shame to see those of us who know better seat on a side saying nothing,

Here in lies the root cause of our problem. In a real country the government would look for people that are stealing from the state or those that are involved in money laundering, and bring them to justice. In DOMINICA it is the government that going from village after village, showing the people how to deceive the state ……….. I say so because Dominica is small and I know for a fact that small business thing government using to give hundreds of thousands of dollars away does not exist; I t is the government telling the people to fill out a paper and put any business on it and as long as they are a known laborites Skerrit finds a way through the council, to make payment, with no questions asked by councilors.

Skerrit and his gang of Labour ministers in government are preying on the poor of these people and appears to b using them as batter to their foundation to launch their corrupt political campaign. My Carib friends, please run away for Darroux and Skerrit, they are all using you to get there, while they are heading, towards riches. Skerrit is a fake and for years now he investing in the Kalinago and these people are still in poverty and begging and waiting for Skerrit to give

with a stagnant economy, giving away that money to boost business is like a running pipe and the borrowerws will be left with a debt, while the track record of the kalinago territory will go down as bad pay masters . the only consolation is only labourers that are receiving the money, it is just another way of giving free money to gain votes.

I need a simple question answered. Where is all that money coming from? I don’t think is the treasury because government cannot give not even 1% increase in salary.

I hope the people who receive these kados are smart enough to realize this largesse will stop once they vote Skerrit again. Once he has your votes he does not have to hand out cash like that any more for another five years. So if you are smart you vote the opposition and continue receiving these appetizers.

believe you me, it’s a great vibe for the people of the Carib Territory..and I honestly hope that all these monies being disbursed can yield positive results for the people and commonwealth of Dominica.
however, can’t help but notice the exclusion of the Blue communities..that’s not how a nation is developed..

  12. June 22, 2017

Definitely some good help for those aspiring business owners. Make good use of these funds, my people.

Nothing is too much for the first people’s development, i hope in myeline time i would see the disbanding of the reservation ‘ and true national integration put in place, its long over due. Dominica does not belong to me , i was brought here to create wealth for England/Europe, as we approach the EMANCIPATION so-called holiday, a holistic evaluation of our consciousness is needed, we need to look in the eyes of the native people and ask ourselves, which of us are the true Dominicans.Like all first people of the EUROPEAN conquest, they continue to be marginalized, it may not be blatant in Dominica, but in the USA, central and south America, native people continue to be exterminated en mass. Now is the time to look within, of all the islands, English,French or Dutch, Dominica holds an exemptional position, our duty today is to learn from them. Bob D.

Are there systems in place for the disbursement of money and for the evaluation of these efforts to ensure that the country receives value for the money recognizing that the track record of this government is atrocious.Just look at the response to the sigatoga disease, the abattoir, the coffee processing plant,16 years of promoting hotel development in the country to replace bananas. Can we afford to just throw money at problems hoping to get good results. I’m hoping that the resources of the NDFD and other institutions are being utilized to increase chances for success

  16. June 22, 2017

The Kalinagos are receiving their fair share. Refreshing news.

I hope they will also receive training from the small business department to assist them in the running of their respective businesses.

Unemployment should be drastically reduced. I have to ask though: What affairs are there in this territory which are different from the rest of DA? I once heard the PM said how prudent this administration is yet to me having a Minister just for Kalinago affairs is duplicating work handled by several other Ministries.

It’s nice to see this section of the island receiving their share of the CBI monies. What happened to the idea of cooperatives on the island? We know that it’s tough for sole proprietors to survive and thrive because they lack capital, human resources and technical expertise to sustain and grow their businesses. Meanwhile, I’m still waiting to see when will trash compactor garbage trucks come back to the island. These open dump trucks with plywood, masquerading as garbage trucks, is pure nonsense and it’s also unhealthy.
